There are a few things that can cause hi exhaust temp. Most common is restricted airflow on the inlet. Diesels pump extra air that is not combusted (because it is a lean condition at most all times). This cools the combustion and exhaust temps.
Other cause is late injection timing. It will cause low power, high exhaust temps, and often smoke.
Another possibility is compression release not kicking out completely. This will cause high exh temp and burned exhaust valve quickly!
@sheephat89 Sorta heard rite. But we don't go out to that cabin much, and start the gennerator even less. It takes a couple months to go through $5 of gas, at the rate we use it.
these chinese Yanmar clones are total crap, for the most part. Mine was all shake, rattle and roll. Until it died shortly after, that is. It had a short and totally useless life. paid 390 USD for the genset, second hand, but un-used. Something apparently broke and then the whole damn flywheel broke of and distroyed the starter and alternator along the way. I guess some chinese clones might be ok, but how the hell am I to know which, as there are "millions"?
EatQ uses poor quality exhaust systems. What your looking at is a plugged catalytic converter. If you call them they will send you to Aurora Generators to get a better quality one. Too funny.
@auroraron You've got it right, if it was valves or fuel it just plain wouldn't run right. Thing sounded like it was running right, too much backpressure and couldn't cool itself so the innards smoked themselves. Had to have some sort of emissions control these days which is another reason why I think you're right with the plugged catalytic converter or particulate filter, whatever it's called on those things.
Timing out or yes what some one else said , gasoline mixed in. These are "China Diesels" and you get what you pay for. Cast crank shafts and not forged as Yanmar Diesel Engines use. But the price 3 times more for the quality. Then again they are not a continuous running engine ie 24/7
if it make you feel any better i use my 6.6 kw genertor last night and it works like a dream and it like 7 year old and it still looks bran new cause we have use it like 6 times in the last 7 years and it is stored inside in my garage to power my house and it really works like a dream
those gens don't cost 800 they are more like 2500 ,,here is something you are not telling us ,you either put gas or something else was terribly wrong , plus in that cold to start a direct injection diesel with no glow plug you need preheat, do you homework, the real world is not a video game.
Looks to me like the exhaust valve was not closing all the way. Or perhaps the injection timing was off, and NO WAY you should see the glowing gas and flames shooting out. The sparks are from the metal that is flaking away from the inside of the muffler. There is no such thing as lean or rich with a diesel. Fuel controls engine speed. Too much fuel might make it smoke and run like crap. Too little and it will just stop. Probably the valves were not adjusted correctly. Not your fault.
@kens97sto171 I think it was wrong or contaminated fuel Every diesel i have ever seen with injection timing off it does not fire or pre-detonates. If the exhaust valve doesn't close all the way, the engine never can reach combustion temp on the stroke to fire the diesel.
i know why the muffler is red and it is blowing out fire.you need to adjust one of the chokes.and trust me i did that with my onan 15-jc 15kw generator
@pacificcloud dont be sad that you didn't, something went seriously wrong with that engine, it may have started as off fuel timing, but the fact that it eventually slowly stalled out more than likely means it died a slow death. Advanced timing causes diesels to run hotter. They do it in fire trucks to boost power since they usually only sprint to their locations, not like an OTR truck that would run for hours a day. Just my $.02
that sux dude im sorry but as they say (shizen happens) im glad u got ur money back =3-check out my generator its steam powered its on my channel i got 65$ american in it
I have ETQ 6000W genset bought used off a roofing guy runs great when you get it started I start mine only on half throtle ( held by locking pliers ) untill warm and than kick in full throtle never had a problem...it will backfire and shoot flames if the throtle is set to full off the start. I run 10W30 AMSOIL in it and runs 10 hrs at a time as a plug in for two semis in the yard
@heavyhaultrucker Good to know its working for somebody, I was sad to return it to the store, especially now I have my diesels all running on waste fryer oil, that would be like free electricity. The one I had could have been just fine, it just freaked me out, if it had kept running in the end, I would have kept it.
i know what you did not do if you dont bleed the air out of the lines which makes air locks and the injection pump can pump air then it leans out the mixture and makes it run like crap like that is and makes it run hot which shows in the red hot exauhst. you have to take the injector high pressure fuel line off and crank the motor till fuel comes out and then put it back it that makes sure no air is in the lines and you dont have to crank the motor as much
@thestuffz They took the genny back no problem. Now its on the floor at PA, half price, it says "did run, timing out". I wouldn't buy it back for half price even, I think it has bigger problems.
did you put oil in the engine?
