Yes, each drive has a unique "key" which matches that of the motherboard. Therefore the drive will only work on another motherboard if flashed with firmware containing the corresponding key.
Yes, you can also do it that way if you are confident in doing so. :) This will of course not play backups, but is how you could replace a broken drive, as long as the problem is not with the PCB. :)

Yeah its easy to do, so long as you have the drive key, or a firmware dump from your old DVD drive. If not your screwed and you have a large paperweight. :)
Haven't had much experience with Benq's in all honesty so wouldn't know. They are nice drives and much quieter than the Sammies and just as easy to flash. :)
One thing to be careful with even if you have a VIA SATA card installed is flashing if your motherboard is an nForce chipset (I have an nForce 650 chipset for SLI gaming). They don't play well together and your read/flash will sometimes freeze up in the middle. I had to move my card and Xbox to my wife's computer to complete a flashing I did for my friend as she has an I865 chipset.

Yes, use iPrep, it is recommended. Vista should not be an issue via SATA as you will be flashing in DOS. Download Textbooks tutorial from the website in this video description & look up USB or NTFS4DOS method & you will be fine. To make backups you will need a Kreon drive. Research them so you know what you need & you will be able to find them to buy on ebay.

Depends what drive you have. It is a Hitachi, then you can flash it via USB to SATA cable and 360 Toolbox. But you have to get the drive into Mode B first. Look it up if you don't know what this means.

I know full well how M$ detect modded consoles which I wont go into, at present there is no way to detect this firmware. The iXtreme firmware was developed when M$ started banning the consoles the 1st time around. Developers studied M$ detection techniques & developed a firmware (iXtreme) that counteracts the detection method so yes maybe one day M$ will be able to, but for the time being they can not.
Please read the other comments. The Blaster is a method of flashing your consoles DVD drive. You will still need to flash the drive with hacked firmware to be able to play burned games.

It makes no difference. You can type any numbers you like as long as it is in the format of 7 numbers first, then a space then 5 numbers.
The purpose of using your serial is that it creates your backed up firmware in folders using that serial so you know what console it corresponds to. Useful if you have more than one, it keeps it seperate. :-)
Also, the serial I am using on my video is not the serial for my console. I would not show the real serial number for safety reasons. It was the serial number off a spare original case I bought off ebay that still had the sticker attached. ;-)

Oh dear (*sighs*).... OK look, the Blaster allows you to flash your drive. It works in the same way as using an earlier conectivity kit also available from Team Xecuter. Once you have flashed your drive you can play backups. The Blaster simply allows you to flash your drive easily.
Take my advice & research so you know WHAT you have to do and WHY. That way all your questions will be answered.
The Blaster is simply a device to allow you to flash your 360's DVD drive. It will not automatically allow you to play backups.
Once installed you can dump/flash your drive without ever needing to take your console apart again. Which is handy as you will need to keep updating your firmware regularly when they release new versions.
A bit too much? Dude, this isn't rocket science! lol
It's really not at all hard. It's just a matter of having the right equipment, (which is very cheap) & knowledge (freely available & easy to follow). Once the Blaster is fitted, it only takes 10mins MAX to dump the original firmware AND flash the drive once ya know what ya doing. It is not an extensive process, just a matter of knowing what to do & when.
Oh & there will never be a boot disc for the 360, won't ever work that way.
Oh & I did it slow for the tutorial, but once in DOS it takes a couple of mins to dump/flash the drive.
If your a complete computer NOOB then I guess this might seem a bit daunting. But then again, if you are a computer NOOB, you probably don't wanna be messin with updating the firmware of your Xbox360 DVD drive in the first place anyway!

The Blaster is simply a device to allow you to flash your 360's DVD drive. It will not automatically allow you to play backups.
Once installed you can dump/flash your drive without ever needing to take your console apart again. Which is handy as you will need to keep updating your firmware regularly when they release new versions.

A bit too much? Dude, this isn't rocket science! lol
It's really not at all hard. It's just a matter of having the right equipment, (which is very cheap) & knowledge (freely available & easy to follow). Once the Blaster is fitted, it only takes 10mins MAX to dump the original firmware AND flash the drive once ya know what ya doing. It is not an extensive process, just a matter of knowing what to do & when.
Oh & there will never be a boot disc for the 360, won't ever work that way.

Oh & I did it slow for the tutorial, but once in DOS it takes a couple of mins to dump/flash the drive.
If your a complete computer NOOB then I guess this might seem a bit daunting. But then again, if you are a computer NOOB, you probably don't wanna be messin with updating the firmware of your Xbox360 DVD drive in the first place anyway!
