  • @carfanactic112 I bet a lightly modded 2011-2012 Mustang GT (tune, CAI, those types of things) will do like 175-180 mph in 6th gear with plenty of RPM left to go, needs more power/torque to push past that.

  • ok, so im reading some of the comments posted here, and to those of you that really know your stuff, good for you. for those of you who dont, go do some research on why they use small tires on drag cars. cause the guys on here are right; smaller means lighter, which means go faster. a shot of nitrous also helps. and this car sounds like it might have a 2 step. that also helps.

The "wheels are too small" on the front for several reasons.. 1 they are much lighter - lighter is faster 2 they take weight of the front end which gets the engine up higher on launch which digs the rear tires in more. 3 being as you don't need the fronts for traction or turning on a drag strip it doesn't matter that they're "too small" you'd never see this on a road race car because you need the traction in the corners and you need room for the big

  • I just thought that it was crazy that they put that car in the 10's with bolt ons a week after they bought it.. Hell the basic pro charger kit makes 525 whp on it. Just need to see if the engines will stand up to the modding like the f bodies and terminator mustangs did.

  • Whether it has N.O.S or not..that car flies..im not a big fan of N.O.S simply because it tears shit up (in most cases) but that car is badass!I just bought a 2011 'stang and with a tuner and tires its running 12.50s! hopefully with a few more bolt-ons it'll go in the high 11s..Ford really hit a homerun with this car!

  • its funny, they dont mention the 100 hp NOS kit on this car........ camaros can run in the 10s all motor with bolt ons and the engines actually live a while. texas speed built a 5.7ltr ls1 camaro with heads a cam, ported intake an TB, and full exhaust and it went in the 9.82........ with a stock short block. no ford has ever been in the 9s with a stock short block that was N/A.

    Please dont insult a ZR1 to a mustang, he was comparing the ZR1 to anything Ford could ever build, even the GT500 doesnt have a chance. Also when was the last time ford developed an NA engine that could break the 400HP mark, 1970s. GM did it in 1991 with the LT5, only took ford 20 years later. About time the GT is not a pure embarrassment to the american muscle. Blue ovel guys dont get your panties in a bunch because you can run with a GM car.

I drove all three pony's and got a 5.0 premium convertible for over 9k less than a camaro SS, and Chevy will not warranty blowers of any kind. My appt is already made to have my tune done at roush and add the charger. Now the car will cost as much as the Camaro SS.   • Too all of you Ford guys... Ford finally put out a decent mustang. Ford did a FANTASTIC job with this car. There can be no arguement there.

    But with that being said.... Ford finally put out a product that can compete! I guess that's wording it a bit harsh... but come on. How big of an embarrassment has the Ford Mustang GT been over the years?

    The ZR1 will always smoke ANY Ford product. So with this new 5.0... Ford is finally getting up to par with Chevrolet.

  • @fordtech91 the car was also running nitrous on it..it had a 100 shot...the new 5.0's are a beast no doubt..but they are just a tad over hyped..ppl are getting the impression u can buy a new 5.0 slap a CAI and exhaust and tune and some sticky tires and it will run 10's...thats just not the case..and these new 5.0 are not light years ahead of an LS1 like some believe..u can take a 98-2002 F body..throw a big cam -CAI-headers-exhaust-and a stall (in the auto) with a tune and run 10's

  • You can make anything go faster by removing weight. That's why the ricer's are alot faster than you think they would be. Power to weight ratio is where its all at. What was the weight with driver of this Mustang when it ran the 10.58?? I bolted a set of 18" drag radials on an 08 Z06 and went 10.80's Stock with 18" drag radials. yes factory rear size is 19"on the 08 Z06. Had to decrease size and used replica wheels to match(nittos at the time, they were the biggest ones available at the time)

  • get rid of the procharger and drop in a 4bb (4v) and its quicker my79 2.3l Sleeper has a volvo DOHC head with twin webbers, i can dust v8 5.0 mustangs with it all day long, plus mine doesnt weigh 2 tons, only 2330lbs it looks like a normal mustang on the outside i even put 70's on the stock rims with ghia hubcaps and whitewalls, i fooled alot of guys with it. the volvo head delevers alot more torque and since have blown out two borg warner RAD 4sp trannys.

    might put it for sale.

  • seniorcat03 Any way you look at this the LS engine is based strictly on Ford designs dating back to the 60's. The reason they created the LS engine was GM's fear that Ford would eventually start building the 351 Windsors for the mustang. The 350 met its match with a detuned 302. They knew that the only way to counter act the threat of the 351 was to design an engines using Ford technology/designs taken mainly from the 427 high riser. If Ford would have used the 351 they would have crushed them.

  • @deathracer777 your talking about one car when there are numerous ones out there. You can throw slicks or good radials on an ss or ws6 and it'll run 12.8s all day. Ford fanboys just don't like to admit gm is far superior in the motor department than ford. All cars are not created equal. I'm sure some could outrun an ls1 but very few. There's alot if videos showing stock ls1s outrunning these badass 5.0s. Road and track did a test with a 2010 ss and the mustang lost that as well. But like I said

Over the years, I've had more than my fair share of wins against the 'faster' GM vehicles. So, many of these contests come down to who is the better driver. Mag tests are interesting, but they can be misleading either way. The best way to settle things is to simply 'take it to the 'strip'.

  • @6speedlover not that well... but against the base corvette (c6) its a pretty good matchup... 2k in mods on the 5.0 will have it running pretty damn close... and personally i would have the 5.0 over the vette even if they were the same price... the interrior is way ahead of the chevy and its more daily driveable.

The stock Mustang GT time is anywhere from 12.7-13.0 depending on the magazine. The GT 500 is roughly 12.2-12.4 stock depending on who you read (and again, will spin all the way on a hard launch).

    Either you're just a Ford fanboy or you're too fucking stupid to do your own research. I'm sure you've never raced at a track.

  • 11:1 compression? WTF - seriously Ford! You can't even run these down here in the Arizona heat without pinging. From Kansas on over to Cali, the highest grade fuel you can buy is 91. This lame video fails to mention a bunch of bolt on's, a tune, slicks and a 100 shot of NOS. This bucket is in the latest MM&F. Save your money and pick up a real 5.0, a 79 - 95. The compression is too high to reasonably do anything with. Forget boost all together and 42k for this ride is a slap in the face.

  • @tjklimek1 11:1 is fine with 91, if your worried about compression buy a tuner and back the timeing off. If your even more super worried about compression and want to SC/turbo, buy a pair of compression lowering head gaskets and a days work and be done.

  • @tjklimek1 I have been a GM man my whole life. Chevelles, Firebirds, Blazers, Grand Prixs, Camaros, a 2004 GTO, and my current Chevy truck. This last week I have been shopping for a Ford. Why? 412hp/390ftlbs with 26 mpg. With the tech of this motor 87 octane is no problem. Even at 11:1. Read the fine print. with 87 octane you get a 10hp and 10 ftlb drop to 402 and 380. It is all in the variable independent camshaft timing. Pro-Charger already has a 7psi kit to push this motor to 600hp.

  • @tjklimek1 continued... I just finished pricing a fully loaded GT Premium manual trans with every option but navigation. I added all kinds of silly stuff. The highest I could get the MSRP was 38500. Then the dealer gave me 500 over invoice which came to 36000. After the $1000 cash back right now that gave me a nasty powerful car with pretty decent luxury for 35k. You can't beat that with a stick. I'll end up trying this one ford, and they might get me for life.

  • @redws618 2002 SS ran 13.49 (MT).......'11 mustang GT I saw in test ran 12.8. Evan Smith from MM&FF got one to run 12.30s with sticky tires. The '11 SS camaro is quick, but it's not as quick as the stang. However, it is faster than the '02 SS.

  • @MustangMabry It has a CAI, exhaust, a spool in the rear, shocks, and a 100 shot in this video. The other video where they ran 10.88's was with the spray and with street slicks. Making it a fully street car to drive everyday. In this video it has track slicks meaning no legal street driving until you take off the slicks.

  • you guys did a great job on that car --- and the driver is at the top of his game ---- but I'm missing something here

    Dont you need like 700 Hp to get a ca into the sub 12 second range on the quarter mile .

    In any case this is proably the best Mustang ever made---- and I'm almost sur Ford is going to suck $40 grand out of me pretty soon.

    One note though -- on a Dodge site they were anticipating a 480 Hp. Hemi in late 2011 --- could be just bullshit however.

  • @marcomariaz26 ---- I know about Hp. to weight and all that -- but my old 1971 Dodge charger with a 440 putting out close to 475 Hp could never break into the 12 second range.

    Neither could my old 1970 Mustang with a 351 Cleaveland and about 375 Hp.

    Could be the driver though..

  • @millwrightman99 those cars had less hp than todays. it's measured differently. 475 back then is like 400 today. 475 today would be about 550 back then. plus quicker revving engines, better transmissions, electronic timing, less parasitic loss from things like p. steering and electric water pumps. It's technology, plus weight. those muscle cars only had at most 4 gears, now we have 6. A friend's 200sx makes 330hp, and runs mid 12's with only a 4cyl. turbo...

  • @millwrightman99 You can get a Stage 2 STi with 430hp that runs high 11's, my good man. A new 'vette with 436hp runs mid 12's all day, and a 505hp Z06 runs high 11's. Give me 700hp and I'll show you a 9 sec. car...

  • @4g63gen1 -- You guys must be right ---- trap lights don't lie .In my defense though -- I think the manufacturers are understating the Hp numbers .

    Good for the buyer ----I will need to take a new Stang out for a test ------ but it seems the V-6 will be the one to get.Great mileage and after I get used to feel and pay it off ---- get a turbo installed ---- should be some really good kits by then

    I was taken for a ride in a Z-O6 Vette scared the crap out of me .Bad sight-lines big pillars fast.

  • I cant imagine what the numbers would be if they did a head and cam swap! They probably wouldnt even waste the gas on an SS Camaro or SRT8 Challenger. The 80's 5.0's were great engines and now its packin even more of a punch!

  • Personally i hate ford for this hahaha im a chevy car guy all the way and ford has put out something that kills chevy. I hate to admit it but its true. It will definately be interesting to see what chevy does to compete with it. And as 8Balt said this is bringing out another muscle car era! I hope all companies start making bad ass muscle cars now! Thats more to see and race on the street!
