The commentator is called Peter Fleming, he won loads of double tournaments partnering John McEnroe years ago, and I'm sure anyone that watches sky sports coverage of the tennis will agree he is one cool ass mother fucker, and one of the best commentators and pundits. I miss the Prime Federer. His best was better than anyone else's in history. There was no ball he couldn't get to, no shot he couldn't come up with, and every return was magical. Not to mention his ultra-dangerous serve.

Djokovic may have a win streak now, and Nadal may be 5 years younger than Fed, but at his best, on a neutral or fast surface, Federer was unbeatable.

@whutbrush I think that's the problem. He was so unbeatable that he didn't need to improve. Nadal and Djokovic had to incorporate things that Federer had (and most players had to start incorporating more all-court tactics into their strategies, more spin etc.). It's hard having an easy time at the top because you end up losing the drive to improve, and I think that's what screwed Federer over. A drive to improve could have canceled his slower footspeed.

He's older now.

He has a family.

No more drive, now that he's won everything.

As a result, he probably doesn't put in as much time in training as he did before (very important), and a family consumes a lot of time and energy.

What we saw at 4:20 in this video was an example of what has made his match up with Nadal so difficult. Nadal beat Fed so many times on clay that he got into his head, and it shows. When Fed has opportunities, he suddenly blows it with errors. 4-1 2nd set 08Wimb, lost it. 4-2 1st 09AO, lost it..

IMO he should play more direct, try to hit flat and lines on first stroke. He is hitting a distance from the lines, it is safe tactic against lower ranked players to prevent upset but not against nadal. Prime sampras can break nadal easier than federer.
