As a wireless profesional I can tell you that the way you hold it can cause energy loss depending directly on the 3 closest base station locations. If you have one BST in less than 0.5kms distance then even the iPhone 4 won't loose any bars.
It's impossible ti know hoy Steve's videos where made so you can't judge by making your test at home.
The problem with these phones are in certain areas. I have a IP4 that always have 3-5 bars with the death grip or just holding the phone in a normal way, it's all in your carrier and area.
ajstonent, before spitting in the face sort of speaking, watch the keynote video on apple website.. and make sure you hear the part where steve jobs says that all the phones were tested in an area with RELATIVELY LOW SIGNAL STRENGTH.
Are you in an area with a cellular signal strength between -80 dBm and -90 dBm? Unless you are an cellular engineer don't post video and comment on something if you don't know what you are talking about...
Agreed its all a service signal issue. I can sit in my inside our outside in Atlanta with my iphone4 hold it covering the phone with 2 hands and not lose a bar. I am sure if i went closer to a dead zone i would see the issue as you would with many other phones. The issue just isn't remotely as serious as people have made it out to be. Glad I get a free case regardless ;o)
Indoors and outdoors in the West LA area, my 9700 (T-mobile) shows full bars. I can't get the phone to drop a bar doing any combination of wrapping one or both hands around the phone. Holding the phone as shown in Steve's video has absolutely no effect on the display of the bars.
ever think maybe they took the picture in a basement or far from a tower?

this guy can block his signal pretty well... and I can do the same thing with my iphone4 and not lose service...
dshifflett 1 year ago
The same exact thing is true with the iPhone, mine isn't affected at all when i hold it

I have the iPhone 4, and I'm not able to reduce my bars by holding it by the "death grip" either.
