@culturaleyes I think so. All of the patches in my JV1080 demo videos are factory patches. There are additional sounds available via the expansion cards.
Hello. I have an Ensoniq VFX-SD. I do need more sounds, and the sounds on this synthesizer is symply amazing that I would love one. The only thing is, can I use this with the sequencer on board the VFX-SD?
@gerbilplay4 I've been using a JV-1080 with a VFX-SD for >10 years. The VFX-SD can't send bank change messages, which is a limitation; I usually keep the sounds I want in the user bank. The VFX-SD seems to have a different velocity curve than Roland typically uses; I often re-program the JV's sounds to compensate, another reason to use the user bank for sounds you want. But those are nitpicks, the combination works wonderfully.

Does This Patch Fantasia, at sec 0.38 comes on the original rom? how likelly is to do D-50 impressions and patches with this Synth? Thanks for posting!
@Dzoni73 Well the JV synth is different to VST instruments, to be honest the expansion boards are overated. Theres room for both JV synth and VST instruments.
@bashten Yes, you would also need a MIDI cable to connect the MIDI OUT of the Casio to the MIDI IN on the JV-1080. And amplifier/speakers for the JV-1080.
Offhand, I believe there are some mono patches in the JV1080 and most synths have a mono mode. But you may want to see if there's a manual available at the Roland website.
You are abslolutely right. They are exactly the same, except the XP-80's multiple outputs.. The XP-80 is actually closer to the JV-2080 with it's larger LCD screen.
Wow, for an old bit of kit the JV1080 still has fantastic sounds. More so when you can pick one of these up and a controller for most entry level synths.
Well, I took regular old piano lessons for 15 years, and have been playing regularly for more than 40. If you do something long enough, I guess you can get it right now and then. :)
You and your keymagic made me go purchase a second hand Roland XP-30. XP-30 was my first ever synth. Can't wait to get it (back).

If you were to plug one of these into a computer via a midi cable, could you save edited sounds and re-amp them? If so what program would you use?

@coatipanama All these patches are from the original ROM. I am not familiar with the D-50.

@keybdwizrd Would even an old casio keyboard house a roland midi?
bashten 1 year ago
@bashten It depends upon the Casio. It would need to have MIDI in/out jacks on the back of it.

That's awesome! I have a Yamaha PSR-2100 arranger keyboard, which has 824 authentic instrument Voices, (338 Panel, 480 XG,16 Drum/SFX Kits),
If I hook this up to it, will it be LIMITED to the 824 voices OR will I have full access to what's available on the JV1080?
KJEboys 2 years ago
You would have access to all sounds in both instruments.

I got rid of my jv1080 for 600 pounds. it had all the expansion slots filled, which must have helped.
My rationale was id used it to death since 1994, and the multi samples were starting to sound a bit coarse.
My replacement for this titan was a motif xs and an m3, to accompany my voayger, system 100, mopho, arp2600...soundtrack work rocks! ;-)
