Thanx for postin this song - lost the CD long ago, Saw it in Aucks when it came out - people cryin and yellin at actors on the screen-others were leavin couldnt take it anymore, people talking loudly at each other about scenes - no one could look at each other when leaving the theatre - powerful thing images. GGI in the background from Pap - and you 'Penny-divers' from ' Waka' I can still see you whanau - main reason for goin to see it - wonder how many wahine and kidz got a hidin that night???
@hawaiian96chence "Ehara taku toa i te toa takitahi, engari he toa takitini" is a proverb, or in Maori "whakatauki." The translation is: "A warrior's strength is not his alone, but that of many warriors." There's a lot of ways it can be interpreted, but it basically talks about unity: how working together can bring more success than working alone and also how everyone's contribution counts. That's what I think anyway.
this song aint on spotify!!! fucking kids these days want to listen to justin boobie and ladygayga :P damn fucking idiots this kind of music rules why cant people face that hollywood are and will always be bullshit
@timGsims Thanks for that.....awesome track and an awesome film. Friend of mine from NZ by thr family name of Tikao says that growing up around those times you kinda got used to seeing that type of thing......love the maori pride....deep people
I so loved this movie for the cultural roots it held. As A Scotsman., we went through the same BS in our family with our Fathers beating us within an each of our lives as the World over !!
I like this movie alot, the second isn't that good.
I'm white scandinavian, so I kind of like the idea of being a viking!!!
native american's, or I'd rather say, REAL americans have always been very close to my heart.and now also the maori people! I hope for the best for you people out there. white, black, yellow or blue.
SERIOUSLY after i watched this movie..i respect the culture and the music...im apache so i really like this culture and what it stands for!....and the music to this movie is sooooooo good!!!!!
White people have the Teutonic Tribes, Gaelic Tribes, Scots, Norse warriors...all of them just as tribal in culture as the native Americans and islander cultures. Hell, if you don't like that, then you still can't forget the Spartans...
Asians have their own. Mongols, especially, are still considered tribal.
No such thing as having no roots like that. No such thing, ever.
@tristienm wtf are u talkin about?! i just said he should be proud too be who he is? ... bloody hell '' if you don't like that'' did i ever said anything about that shit?
aroha mai whanau @evolgamer below is right song comes from Mahogony rush's Madness. Altho i dont think he was around then. But I remember them from the late 80's they were'nt very well recieved cause we all thort they were copycats of Jimi H. Anyway I think even they took the tune from a band even less popular then them.
Does anyone know where I can find the chant to this? What is the man saying in the background, to which the group is replying? Please help me- this is for a project.
@evolgamer, the name of this song, before the theft of it, is Madness. It's an early MAHOGANY RUSH song from 1972. Like everything else, you'll find it on youtube.
I remember trying to see this movie 3 times at the movies & everytime it was booked out, Finally we got to see it & there wasn't a dry eye in the theatre, I guess it hit home to everyone, not just moaris. The acting is a bit dodby but one of the most powerful movies of it's time.
Excellent movie, very powerful. Of course it doesn't point soley to violence within Maori families or even violence within New Zealand. Domestic violence is a harsh world reality people still don't understand the extent of unless they've experienced it first-hand. Another great New Zealand film tho.
Actually, the main focus is on domestic violence. While it also makes references to the old traditions of the maori people and the way society has changed the some of the traditions and beliefs this is only one of the issues adressed. Perhaps you need to rewatch the movie a few times.
I really like this song. The movie is so rough and sad, but I prefer the movie than book. I think it's just too much what Jake did to her daughter in the book...
If someone raped my daughter I wouldn't bash him I'd kill him. And just for the record in the novel Jake rapes his own daughter. The movie was changed because they didn't want to hurt "jakes" career. Funny that "uncle bully's" career went from strength to strength.
Moari Rock hard. They'd rock harder if they believed it
In the first book, everyone thinks Jake raped her, and because he is so drunk, he can't remember either way. But it ends up that it wasn't him, if you read the second book.
reminds me little wing of jimi hendrix.. :)
