He's offering a voice portrayal of the man he sees on screen, and unfortunately the characterization of Cloud in these spin-offs and installments is this monotonous, brooding soldier. Mute the tv during his dialogue and see how much personality you recognize in the figure while he solemnly rests against a rock. He's more a caracature in compilations than the fleshed individual he was. The actor is not at fault for his interpretation of this.
