Due to the overwhelming response I have received at You Tube, I have decided this film should be made available to view at home. I was about 25 years old when I shot this footage. A chance in a lifetime to travel to east Africa with a 16mm camera and about 2,000' of color negative film. Much of the footage was shot in a VW van while visiting the assorted resort areas in Eastern and Northern Kenya -- November 1980.
I was born in Kenya when it was heaven, shame it's losing it's beauty so rapidly because of overpopulation, corruption, greed and poverty, so I'm glad I've left and thankful for the good memories, many thanks for video.

The recording was done at the Kenyan cultural center in Nairobi. The tribal music in the video that were part of the recording are at the end of the video.

thats Africa. it is home some of the worlds most wonderful untouched treasures and some of the worlds harshest environments (the places people have corrupted)
you're right. I remember my history teacher telling me how people think that the jewish holocaust was the worse mass murdering in the world when european nations extending their control during the age of imperialism, somewhere around thirty million africans were killed.
Our tour guide at the musuem i volenteer at was a big time game worden in africa Around in Kenya it's pretty interesting to hear his stories sometimes makes me want to go to africa.
you got a ggod point in tha't buth if they all wode hawe died the lcok at the bad things you might noth exist or do you know that youre dad's da's dad's and so on. didden't killt peapol/animals in Africa
fredchiodi sorry to put this to you but if you go back 5 million years there was no such thing as black and white humans. there were only apes and one type became fully able to walk on just 2 feet. From that point to now different apes competed to dominate the world the african type won out in the end and we are all decendants of that one.
Reminds me of my years in Kenya, 1953-56. Helped to clear out the Mau Mau from the Aberdare forest. Happy days in Nyeri,Naivasha, Meru,Nairobi and Mombasa and Malindi. I have never forgotten you Kenya, and I shall return one day soon to visit with you.Kwaheri.
Yes, I was an Assistant Inspector in the Kenya Police based at South Nyeri. The Mau Mau part of the job was sad and distasteful, but had to be done, realistically there were no winners in the end. Apart from my official functions,I was always interested in the culture of Kenya, and in particular the music of the African people. I had several African friends, both Kikuyu and Samburu, and learned much as the time passed by.
Thanks for youtube we can now locate 'makaburu'. History tells us that so many people died and others were adversely affected during the emergency period. Only read about it. Its nice to hear the other side of the story. Normally its kenyans telling the story and not 'kaburu'
I read in Wikipedia, "One British settler, describing helping Special Branch of the Kenya Police interrogate a Mau Mau suspect, stated that, "Things got a little out of hand. By the time I cut his balls off he had no ears, and his eyeball, the right one, I think, was hanging out of its socket. Too bad, he died before we got much out of him."
NO! I was never, ever guilty of this kind of atrocity, and, although I was aware that certain awful things did happen I can say that I was never apart of anything like this.
May I also add, that the Mau mau members were also guilty of atrocities, committed against their own people, innocent women and children.
If I had more space,I would tell you about the Squires Farm massacre.
