  • Congratulations for keeping the faith alive..

Even if we are from other countries... we just respect the culture with honour and greatful feelings!

  • to be a northern soul dancer your heart must be connected to your feet!

  • @brindlog So true.. This is more like an aerobic session

  • Northern Soul in Tokyo?? How did a MIdlands and Northern England 70's scene travel so far?? Keep the faith , keep dancing. If you want some moves from an original (I may be old but I can still move) let me know!!

  • I know! It's barely a blip on the radar here in teh U.S. (actually, most of the northern Soul moves came from here first). Still, it's funny that that particular scene is so big in Japan (then again, bluegrass, square dancing, and traditional British/ American Anglo folk tunes are HUGE there too)!

  • thanks for the info, is ther a Northern Soul scene in the US I visit San Francisco frequently and it would be good to see it. Original 70's Northern (or Rare as I knew it) Soul dancing was loosley based on James Brown sliding with a few embellishments, looked good though!

  • Not that I'm aware of. Most ppl know of it through the N. Soul records that came out of England in the 60's/70's.

  • Come To Hamburg Its Thriving

  • Heay, My noble friend! I watched you & I remembered I can dance! I now dance to my old soul stuff everyday & still love it. Thank you for the memories you are a joy to watch. Keep on Keepin On Bro!

  • Cool dancing with great tunes...nice

  • Mineaki san genki. Sat 5 Sept , SOUL FEELING at 7th floor shibuya

  • Good job.

  • There is nothing wrong with this guys dancing. He is obviously warming up, showing the moves broken down into individual steps. But you would have to have an ounce of knowledge to understand that.

  • I believe the original of this tune is by Sam and Dave (You don't know like I know), but the song in this video may be a cover. Sam and Daves original never had a female signing and this version is quite a bit more up tempo. Maybe be this is a rare later recording Sam and Dave did with a "session singer".

  • The song is actually by Sam & Dave, You can pick up a mint copy on John Mansips website for under £30

  • nice moooves

  • Yes, oh, yes. Come to Baltimore and I'll shake a leg with you. We have a couple of kick-ass Soul nights.

    Keep it up, man.

    x

  • good lord mate, you have moves. what a class dancer. lovely.

  • Nice fluid movement young man. You have mastered the art of making the moves look easy. This is what lets thousands of dancers down both present day and in the past (My days were the 1970,s)

Splits and backdrops are no good if one toils to get back up from them fluidly.

One suggestion for you. When you execute your spins try once in a while to tuck your knuckles into your hip bone and make a triangle with your arms. It looked good in my day with the great spinners. Just a suggestion for you.

  • Thank you for advice

    I practiced yesterday

The hand is applied to the bone of hips

  • Neither music nor movement is suitable for this video.

I listen and am practicing i-pod.

    By the friend's hope

It took a picture of some movements.

There is no sound and it because it is trivial

It is because music was put later.

  • Don't know much about Northern Soul dancing, but appreciate the music and style.

A general point not learnt from dancing: Don't spin on your heel - easy to lose balance, instead curl your toes back and spin on the ball of your foot. Much easier control and an increase in height (should you not desire that, bend your knee).

  • thanks

    Please check this...

    I want to become better

  • some moves there brah.

  • Right thats it Im going off to find out when the Northern Soul dos are on bought a tear to my eye=nice one our kid

  • just tried the spin in the kitchen, i now feel sick

  • Brings back my youth, wigan 1980

    droppin, spinning , sliding

    excelent moves minisra

  • ok he is flexible, when does the dancing start!

  • He's not actually Dancing mate, he's trying

to show people how to spin/drop and split.

I'M pretty sure the lad can do the business

if he can be that smooth.

  • Cool im learning moves :]

  • I'm very jealous, excellent dancing, you should go on tour!

  • Wow i'm suprised that northern soul has gone global. and a young fella like you has picked up the dance moves so well, I tried to copy your moves but my belly got in the way and i'm over 40 years old and my back is stiff. But if I keep practicing eventually I might look as good as you. I'm impressed to say the least. Who knows one day you might bump into other mojo movers in the UK, if you ever visit and shine as bright as them, "keep the faith".

  • Nice- could you put a vid up of you showing somemoves please? Think the laddo is good showing ppl how to since NS needs more new blood to keep the faith going.

  • hi there,

    like your moves...

could you maybe take a look at the "familiar feelings" video of moloko, and do a little tutorial of the moves of the main dancer in there. I think his name is Paddy Considine.

I'm trying to learn his moves, but the cameraman got all shacky seeing him dance, so you never really Pad him move for long...
