  • "The Soviets were trained to remove their

skis at the first sign of combat. The Finns,

on the other hand, would ski into combat,

often striking suddenly and with great speed,

then disappear again into the snowy haze

like white ghosts. The Soviets called this

"belaya smert"- the white death. "

  • Finnish ski troops: " Due to the sub-zero temperatures of the Winter War, soldiers would sometimes freeze in place (quite literally) like ghoulish mannequins when their metabolism suddenly dropped upon taking a bullet hit. This created some bizarre and ghastly scenes to discover the morning after the combat. Slain troops were sometimes still standing when found, their eyes and mouths open in a frozen scream"
  • Italy sent 94,500 M/38 Carcano rifles to Finland, but they arrived too late to be used in Winter war and were used in Continuation war instead, mainly by artillery, air-defence etc. non-frontline troops. Finland also bought thousands of Beretta pistols.

  • brave finnish solidiers,

  • I dont speak Italy, but grazie! Nice vid! Greetings from Finlandia!

  • suomi on paras/finland's best!

  • Actually Italy gave Finland more weapons and other material during the Winter War than Britain and France. Grazia Italia!

  • Well, what Italy give during Winter War?

Nothing. Beleave me. GBR and France, USA give zip also.

That why u know Molotov Coctail today.

  • fine film grande grazie!!

  • Interesting to see the Italian perspective on the Winter War.

  • Their perspective seems dark and fuzzy.

  • Ah Skoblin! Don't be too hard on yourself on account of picture quality; As you know, it's the historical footage and each country's interpretation that matters.

  • these news reels are legit unless marked as propaganda
