  • it needs a prop or test club for cooling and it will also act as a flywheel which im sure it needs to run happily.

  • ............ FAIR FUCKING PLAY you putting that in a car if so i bet that would bomb down any road :D

  • That shit looks like something out of MadMax. i fucking love it!

  • Great , just Great! I also have a radial engine that I just got started. Please check out

my video at sainthelena1. I love round engines.

  • Put this on your lawnmover, and your neighbors will be P-I-S-S-E-D.

  • did this come out of a sherman ?

  • Now you got er' goin' ... Time to put it to work in some kind of rig !

  • @glovztoshow ...Um.. because the carb wasn't wide open. You can start a car engine without it connected to anything too (neutral?).

  • You must put out some good block parties for your neighbors to put up with that POS

  • Did the crank shaft showing out front have a fan to cool the engine ? or was it water cooled.

  • it came from a sherman tank really old tank

  • what an engine ,....a real beast!!

  • Hi there, just wondering what these things weigh? Probably a bit heaveyer than my old stationary engines!

  • I live in Florida and that would make one awesome AIRBOAT MOTOR.

Not only would it fly across the glades at near sonic speed it would

also scare away every gator within 10 miles.

  • Are uou goning to make that a running vehicle a la Mad Max, or is it only intended to be a static display?

  • DUDE!! put that in my little isuzu pick up, helzz yeaaaaaaaaa

  • Batgold, is this an old DC-3 engine?

I am ignorant of how old it may be. Can you tell your viewers if this is an old surplus engine, from a defunct aircraft? And, how much did you pay, for it?

    Thanks in advance.

  • @LOlamVaEd This engine came out of a Tank. It was never in an aircraft. it was something like 70 lbs. heavier than an equivalent aircraft radial.

  • @LOlamVaEd The aircraft version of this engine was mostly used in the Boeing A75 Series Stearman, also known as the US Army PT-17 "Kaydet". It was also used in the Fairchild PT-23. It's a WWII surplus engine. A number of agplanes (cropdusters), including some Stearmans, did fly with converted tank engines! Such aircraft could operate only in the Restricted Category. The DC-3 used either Curtiss-Wright R-1820s (DC-3, DC-3A, DC-3B) or, more commonly, Pratt & Whitney R-1830s (DC-3C, C-47, C-53).

  • Damn thats the smoothest running radial ivé ever heard.

  • Jeez, I bet the neighbours hate you!!

  • To those who have down thumbed the comments saying it should have a prop for cooling or at least some sort of flywheel:- Unlike your car engine, radials (intended to be used in a plane) rely on the large propeller to act as a flywheel and smooth out the power pulses and give the crank some inertia. Without it, the engine won't idle reliably, and it puts extra strain on the crankshaft.

  • Also, those cylinders are air cooled, and rely on the prop to force air through the fins, This doesn't matter for short runs like this though.

  • No cooling will make it shut down not so fare away ...

  • hook it up to a clutch on a go kart lol

  • put a blade under it and make that into the worlds meanest lawn mower

  • This engine should have a 1/2 prop on it for cooling whilst running on a stand.

  • there should be a prop atleast for cooling

  • well a person could run an engine like this guy does for a short time without the prop i think the cylinder arangement allows this engine to run without the props flywheel effect

  • bet the neighbours love you.......sounds cool anyway..

  • No flywheel? I am confounded!

  • didnt know radials had flywheels

  • @fangus503 it has a small flywheel on the back.

  • yep briggs is a peace of shit villiers is much better and that is to

  • I need one of these for my lawn mower!

  • Yes, Better than some piece of "Pigs and stratton!"

  • lol nice quiet neighborhood, cars driving by, and a guy starting a huge engine XD only in America!

  • Shouldn't there be a prop on that thing?

  • haha. Sound Just like my car. :-)

  • Now thats an engine !!! Sure wish I could hear it close up. Thanks for showing.

  • ô Burrão, essa máqui serve pra acoordar os vizinhos, você têm ódeio deles ???

  • Looks like it still has good compression.

  • If I were the neighbor i'd be there pushing the start button.

  • Bet the neighbors love you!
