  • @430CurlyJo I know so was mine, i also saw newton fulkner and Charlie Simpson as well Lol.

  • @MegrawA missed Charlie Simpson but Newton Faulker was incredible, really really amazing

  • Let's see if you like this....the video is filmed on Dartmoor, in Devon, one of my favourite places. x

  • i love it

  • I hope he's not actually playing his violin out in that rain - it'll warp, and that'd be a shame...

  • @annariversmohan he'd still be the master of the warped and wet violin

  • You should see his live solo performance of this track, simply fantastic.

  • Wow. <3

  • Anyone who can sing while playing such complicated violin music is clearly made of awesome and win.

  • Saw him do this live at Truro last night. Awesome.

  • I'm 14 years old and i like this music and stuff like this, is that weird?

  • @scoobydo48 Not at all! This is just one of the many types of music out there. Its good to see people branching out at a young age because it means they get a more rounded view of everything, rather than just following their friends like sheep

  • @scoobydo48. Not at all. I saw him last night in concert and he's brilliant. It's good to have a varied taste in music!

  • @scoobydo48 no chance mate! I'm only 15 and I love it!

  • @scoobydo48 nah. i'm not much older than you and have been playing stuff like this for several years :) it's good to like different styles of music

  • i have been to kitty jays grave many times. there are always fresh flowers on her grave. this was before seths song highlighted her, it has always been an enigmatic place for me. i adore this song seth, a local man highlights the amazing creative people here in this area.

  • This Is My Friends Uncle, She's Called Leah Lakeman :D

  • This song deserves a lot more than 148,000 views...it's absolute class!!!

  • Does anyone know where i can download this song?

  • When this tune is in your head ya can't get it out anymore - very catching and dramatic.

  • Absolutely amazing xx

  • I've seen him live three times...and each time he has played this song. It's an excellent song and absolutely amazing live. I just wish I could write fast enough to write a score of what he's playing...

  • I had the chance to visit Kitty's grave and wish her spirit well last summer when I spent a few days walking in Dartmoor. I must go back some day, the place got a hold of me. Such a tragic story, the shame that made Kitty Jay take her own life should've weighed heavy on the bastard who raped her instead.

  • just seen Seth at Chagstock '10....absolutely fantastic!!! if you've never seen him live.....do it now!

as a Dartmoor dweller, excellent to have a track to poor Kitty Jay...never without flowers...

  • He's so amazing on the violin.

  • Amazing piece of music.. I can't wait to see him play at Garforth Arts Festival on the 10th July!

  • unfortunately his new material sounds poop

  • @TheMrDobbins yea i heard a bit of the new stuff on bbc2 the other day. didnt really stand out to me. yea his live stuff is pretty amazin

  • id like to hear this with a beat. even though hes playing so well you can hear where the beat should go

  • @owainyebastards check out the live versions where he stamps his foot to the beat

  • nothing special.pretty boring in fact.when i saw violin i just knew!

  • @MrRyoungs do you play better then?

  • @owainyebastards never said i could play better.just a shite song been searching for new music now for 3 years and everything i have found has been shite.still all the established acts producing the best albums.

  • @MrRyoungs search bellowhead, they are really fun, if yer searching for stuff a bit folky, if not i cant help you lol

  • @owainyebastards if i wanted something really fun. i would stick on a comedy dvd.

  • i will never get sick of this!

  • Still flowers on the grave ?

  • wow this guy is so good at the fiddle

  • Will be seeing Seth for the 15th time on Friday. Total genius.

  • seeing him tonight at Derngate, northampton:] should be good..

  • Fantastic!

  • He's the bomb

  • I can't wait to see Seth playing at Wychwood Festival this summer :-).

  • Such a sad tale. if you don't know it: A young farm maid raped by a farm hand commits suicide. She is buried at a crossroads and they say that elves and faeries leave flowers at her grave that appear in full growth and bloom overnight with no sign of disturbance in the soil to suggest planting.

  • I.Love.Seth.Lakeman.

  • Yes Seth Lakeman! You guys should check out this new guy John Bull. Saw him the other day and he's got something good going on. Have a search for 'john bull john store'

  • Have to say another musical genius has arrived.

    Refreshing, different, complex music.

No wonder Ian Anderson is so taken with him.

  • Gooooosh.. this is breathtaking.. I heard it only today, at the work.. I swear, from the first moments it caught me and it almost hurted... This music cuts deep into you, so beautiful..

  • Everything about Seth Lake goes straight to the heart. His musical talent, originality, those eyes...can't get enough of his music.

  • Amazingly stunning ^_^

had to listen to this in English, i was very impressed (HE IS LEGEND!)

  • So is his smile

  • I saw him Live this evening. This song in particular was outstanding Live. He is a great live act and the atmosphere was incredable.

  • You're entitled to your opinion, although if you saw him live I think you might be inclined to change your mind. It's phenomenal what this guy can do with a fiddle.

If we all had the same taste then there would be no variety and everything would be quite bland.

    Each to their own :-)

p.s. It's actually The White Hare (not mare!)

  • @nobodymm

Yea you might not like the songs but that doesn't mean that the songs are all just ok. I think all his songs are exceptional and he has worked so hard to get where he is now, he is also incredibly talented. Also amazing live. Now you can't say that about a lot of music acts these days can you?

  • Saw him tonight! Absolute legand! Can't believe anyone could think that he wasnt amazing live and on record! Ok yeah personal opinion but still this song just blows me away.. Amazing!!

  • First person I've ever heard say he isn't great live...

  • I tried my very best to find something to like but i couldn't... it is more of a personal opinion though

  • what is there not to like?!!

Seth is amazing live, no one can doubt that.

  • I live in Australia and "came across" Seth when he was being interviewed by Simon Mayo on one of my regular podcasts. He played this track and on the strength of that I downloaded this album the same night - wow, so glad I did. Amazing stuff. A real talent.

  • love this so much

even better live, when he's got his stomp box and all xD

    impossible to get bored of....

  • love this!

  • I'm 14 and love Seth Lakeman

    I saw his at Buxton

He and his music are amazing

    Unique and original

I man with pure talent and passion for music

  • Think how i feel guys i go to weston college and one of our modules is that if you can get in touch with an artist that specialises in the area you like most you can get in contact with them for an interview...and Seth has agreed to have an interview with me and hes said i can jam with him how lucky am i x

  • You are very lucky, he seems very sincere and real, not like most... am green but have a great time

  • im 16, seen him live 26th.. friday of september.. and its the best concert i have ever been to.. even better than dr.hook, the eagles, and all the big guys.. im not into modern music.. this is perfect to me.. you should ALL go see Seth live!

  • Seconded. I've seen him live three times now (going again at the end of next month) and he is consistently incredible. My dad has been going to gigs for over 40 years and even he reckons that Seth is one of the best acts he has ever seen.

  • seth is the BEST EVER jacob harrell said this

    watch?v=yWFUrK7pbtw

  • this is song is about a well known haunted location on dartmoor called kitty jays grave its a bloody interesting story

  • tell us the story?

  • It's a very dark one. Kitty Jay (Mary in some accounts) was an orphan sent to work on a farm in Dartmoor in the late 18th century. She attracted the attentions of the farmer's son and fell pregnant. Driven away from the farm, her reputation ruined, she hung herself. She was buried at a crossroads (a traditional burial site for suicides) at a place now known as 'Jay's Grave.' Someone always places flowers there and lots of people leave trinkets in her memory.

  • thank you

  • Very good video!!

  • This is phenomenal stuff, but I can't decide if dance remix would be mind blowing or a travesty... I can so hear a kick drum behind this being somehow wonderful.

  • i hear u on the kick drum, it would sound amazing

  • no you dont remix this type of song it would completely ruin it!!! if its a song with only one instrument in it you dont add in another no matter what it is!! it would be complete disaster!!!

  • I dunno about a dance remix but I heard Seth playing this song on the radio today and he kicked out a beat on a large box which sounded almost like a kick drum; it did make the song sound better, almost more powerful.

  • Comment removed

  • Well, when I heard him on Radio 5 he was certainly using a box used to store cable, borrowed from the BBC. He said so in the interview prior to him playing the song; he actually broke it because he was kicking it too hard. And I know what a stomp box is.

  • very good

  • So haunting and atmospheric. A brilliant performance from this wonderful musician, who is even better live. Had the good fortune to see him perform at the Kings Arms Pub in Litton,

  • I saw him play last summer. He's amazing live.

  • I adore this man!

can't wait for Saturday in Trafalgar sq :)

  • The video is definitly filmed around the haytor area- theres a shot from the ridge to the west of Widdacombe in the moor, and a lot of it is shot around the paths leading to Jay's grave- the final shot of him kneeling is the grave itself- often a lot of offerings etc on it...

  • Saw this incredible musician on TV last night and came straight onto 'youtube' to listen to his work. Superb and exciting playing. What a fabulous songwriter too. I play blues guitar, but this has really opened up and blown my mind. Thank you for this wonderful music video

  • if u want the name of the intro the song is cape clear and its off kitty jay album.

  • not bad but he,s no ray lamontagne now is he ,

  • first 45 seconds almost makes u cry

  • Yay for Cape Clear! It's on the Kitty Jay album. Buy it, if you haven't already. You will not be sorry :D

  • Seth Lakeman is really good, I think he has some overwhelming talent tbh. He is one of the most talented musicians out just now. Amasing...

  • at first u want 2 dance 4 joy then u hear the deeper meaning and it is beauitful music and just hawesome

  • I've seen the grave of Kitty Jay on Dartmoor before! I love Dartmoor! I also think Seth Lakeman's music is amazing!!

  • seth is the man , used to be in to hard house but this stuff blows my mind

  • Legendary....violin is truely the devil's instrument!!!!!

    xxxxxxxxxxxx

  • amazing!!!

  • Is the beginning 46 second on the beginning of every version of the song he's done, cos on iTunes it has a 30 second snippet and I can't tell if the track will have the intro... Don't want to buy it without the intro!

  • that bit at the beginning is a bit from an entirely different track thats from the album, cant remember the name though...

  • cape clear

  • the actual song on the album and on itunes doesn't have this intro thats the start of a different track on the kitty jay album

  • Saw him at fairport convention a couple of years ago. He was really good =]

  • i was just thinking about that, this is the song that really got the croud going i remember walking to get a pizza i think and this song playing, he was amazing

  • exciting, vigorous! Cornish national.

  • this songs about a real grave for a woman called kitty jay and an unknown hand lays flowers on it...spooky!

  • how do you know that?

  • its a well known 'Ghost' story in devon area particularly for obvious reasons, me and my friends had to do a play on her for college so we camped up by the grave... Fukin Spooky Shit and YES someone puts flowers down

  • People also put flowers there themselves these days. But the mysterious flowers still appear, I've camped there myself.

  • Saw him live at the start of the week - man is a genius. I haven't had that much fun in years.

  • one word - Agree!

  • We're off to see him in Brighton tomorrow night... can't wait :-)
