Holy Shit, I don't know how Maynard performs this live with so much raw emotion without screwing up or sobbing. 3:30-4:00 is absolutely epic and gives me the chills every time.
@BfuckinC Go back listening Guns and Faggett Roses,Next show... the guy who will speak louder than Maynard during this or any songs WILL MEET ME, cuz Iv'e payed all of my tickets so if you don't like ..go somewhere else or at least SHUT THE FUCK UP !!! There's always a doutchbag in all show who can't stop talking (check on youtube by yourself) GGGRRRRRRRRR !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think it is an honor to live in the same century as these guys. The music transcends past, present or what beholds in the future indefinitely. Rock musicians should finally recognize this by the end of the day.
6:05 -- numnuts says: sounds like stevie wonder?? who the fuck says that!!!. he actually sing along w/ it. when i saw this live, i was speechless and numb. not another thought in my head except i dont want this to ever end. everyone should see this live. its cleanses the soul!!
man i was at this show, last time i saw them. and only time i shroomed. don't recommend it but it was a hell of a time, and oddly enough my section was pretty well behaved. i would say it was the best show i saw them play, and i saw them 5 times on that tour, the vibe was just on point, you could feel the cool breeze from the beach on that venue.
I have a question for anyone who has seen this band live. What is it like when you hear this song live? I'm very jealous that people get to experience this. :(
This song is single-handedly enough to make one buy a ticket without hesitation... I was not even high or anything when this song was playing, nor was I high at all during the show I saw them at, but, it still made me feel like I was in a different world. I was lucky enough to see them at Bonnaroo two years ago and vowed to see them at least once every year after that lol. It is an a phenominal experience, especially if you love the band.
Words can't describe something like this. Whatever chance you get to see Tool live, take it. Especially in this sort of setting, as opposed to festivals. Big difference. Still great, but there's something about Tool when it's not a festival... again, words don't suffice.
What a beautiful, beautiful song. This is one of those songs where you can relate to it and apply it to the loss of a family member who fits Maynard's mother.
Tool is a very special band that deserves all the praise in the world. They are one of the few bands in this time that creates thought provoking, emotional, and powerful music that EVERYONE should appreciate.
My dream is to see Tool live, but also to experience THIS song live. I want to be there to feel a religious experience.
You said it very well. I did experience this live, and the way you describe it is just that. Unfortunately, I wouldn't be surprised if they treat this song as an exclusive for the set of that particular tour.
Here's to looking to new material from these guys and the future.
@LastSunrise1981 if you havent seen them live yet, you def. need to. it will literaly be the best night of your life. they are currently starting a mini tour this summer. go see them! take a road trip if you have to. im driving from seattle to sacramento, to see them for my 3rd time. cant wait!
@2001lateralus :-) already got my tickets. i posted this comment before the seattle date was confirmed, the seattle date didnt come until a little bit later. saves me alot of gas, money etc. thnx for the heads up though.
@LastSunrise1981 this song will never get played again live according to the bands interview in revolver mag two years ago. i got to see it 3 times every time it was epic.
@LastSunrise1981 They stopped playing it live... I saw it back in 2007, it was awesome. Maynard said people are to disrespectful for such a personal song.
dude it was last year... didnt exactly save the link... go through every live version and you will find it.
its there unfortunately- some people either get too excited or are simply too stupid or off their heads to calm down and appreciate the lyrical and personal content of this song.
this was the best song that I've ever seen in concert from Tool. they had a much bigger stage set up with bigger screens when I saw it and it still gives me goosebumps even when I watch it at Youtube size.
yeah, whatever happened to that. they were in the works to release an album and it died? I agree, it would be a great day in music when or if it happens.
At 6:08-6:15 did the guy in the background say that this song reminds him of a "stevie wonder" song? ALL TIME LOVER??? If so..How the hell can you be thinking of stevie wonder when this EXTREMELY Emotional, Epic song is being presented to you? How?? This is probally the last time you will ever hear this AMAZING one-of-a-kind song live and this guy was thinking about Stevie wonder! Thats sad really...
high is the way but all eye;s are upon the ground you are the light and the way they'll only read about. i only pray heaven knows when to lift you out
the crowd is so annoying,

A few month before my best friend died we listened to this song and talked about life destiny and changing.
I looked into his eyes; full of sadness and desperation as he started to cry in the moment of the lyrical part:"Give me my wings!"
If I think about it, I wish that he got his wings!
And my memories are a reminder to me that life appears sometimes in a difficult way, a random falling of people who lived or died in pain.
Hope I never forget the simple things, worth and needed to live for!

Lasers and smoke machines..now shut up!!!
Oh wait ... this is filmed in NJ. People never shut up there...that's why I moved away..lol..

And that's why Maynard hates NJ... disrespectful pricks who know nothing of the song.

Ugh... I wish the crowd didn't cheer during the instrument parts, or at any part through this song. It just... Doesn't fit such a spiritual song.
