  • After the 80s music became shit

  • todays music is too dark and occultic

  • Goose Bumps & Skin Tinkling Mind Blowing Hearth Thumping SOUL TRAIN

Aretha Franklin, Marvin G, GodFather J Brown, Al Green, MJAckson 5 "Dance Machine" what a tune! Stevie Wonder God from Above sent him, Go Elton!!! White outside black inside, Jungle Boogie OHHHH YEAH. KURTIS BLOW "Breaks" DMC "RUN" LLCOOOL JJJ "Radio" Ohh yeah! They needed "Afrika BamBattaa" & Malcolm McLaren. Brought Rap out to Mainstreet R&R and lives til today! RIP "Mr Buffalo Girls"!!! Peace AMEN

  • How can anything past early 80's even be worthy of this collection? Soul train for me is the 70's!

  • How can anything past early 80's even be worthy of this collection? Soul train for me is the 70's!

  • Is that supposed to say Soul Train Exit Reel? Dammit. I only clicked it because I expected to get excited! Oh well, at least it as still funkalicious ;)

  • La Fortuna as an intro...really?

  • Great

  • impressive!

  • I love soul trian

  • yeah the music now days is GARBAGE!

  • Who is the woman at 0:13?

  • @mrbatman21 That is Janet Jackson.

  • The problem with soul train towards the end was that there was a lack of representation of alternative genre and artists aside from the mainstream rap/hip hop artists. I know there is good music out there but people have to look for it cuz corporate like to monopolize

  • Soul train is about black music andit didnt get whack in the 90s and 00s. Don's dream was to put black music out there and for people sayin soul train lost its soul dont kno what their talkin about

  • soul train had to move with the times...if it hadn't....it would have died.....there's a lot of good stuff nowadays too....but actually my favourites are still back in the 70's. By the way, I grew up in the 80's....so I'm not biased.

  • Why is this rap sh*t on Soul Train? Isn't there any struggling true soul artists out there? Shouldn't Soul Train have supported them by remaining a national venue for this type of music? Instead it gave in to the no-future ghetto/gangsta pseudo-culture.This really must be the tombstone of Black American culture.

  • No! Zebred2001 -

Rap/Hip-Hop have their roots in rhythm and blues, which are very integral to the black music experience. That includes more than one genre of music created by black folks - not just "soul." And, rappers helped black folks to stay on the charts. For a minute, rap/hip hop was outselling all genres of music. Did you know that? So, it's quite FITTING for rappers to be on Soul Train since they have a GREAT contribution to black music.

  • i feel you 100% zebred2001 and for checkmate 657879 the backstreet staying on the charts doesnt mean the music is worth listening to i grew up in the rap genre and i can tell you rap is cr--conpared to the music that came before

  • Soul music is just too important to disappear. It needs this venue. Rap, which has all the musicality of concrete, can have it's own show "Chain Gang" or something. As for me I'm just learning my way into Soul. Thanks for the talkback. Peace

  • Where is our video every week?

  • the 70s was great to grow up in because of Soul Train

  • The 70s were great, but the 80s and 90s were better.

  • Nope

  • I am about to invest in some DJ speakers and a decent turntable. I intend to keep this music alive.

  • I like the 70's part

  • I don't hear music these days that is considered "mainstream" where I say "Who is that?". I do, however, say that with music from other parts of the world, where I see a lot more creativity and innovation. There are some good bands here in the states, but they are mostly independent.

  • 3:54...Rosie!!!!!!! Yeah!!!!! Rosie Perez showed us how it's done.

  • My goodness!!!! If we could get our hands on a time machine and go back. Enough to be an audience live and see all that Soul Train has accomplished, inspired, and influenced.

  • What song is on 2:54?

  • "Jungle Boogie" by Kool and the Gang

  • that's Jungle Boogie by Kool & the Gang

  • THAT I agree with you on 100%!!! I miss that and all the spontaniety of dancing on the street with friends when something came on the radio.

We are being totally cheated... life is passing us by and we become more and more inundated with mediocrity on radio, TV, and dance clubs as time passes. We were lucky to have what we had!

  • I'm not sure what you've heard enough of because brand new music that is good like the old days is generally NOT accessible to the general public because it's obscured by crappy money making music. I love the same music you do and I offered to point out new material that compares to the old. It seems a true music lover would jump at the offer, but unfortunately you choose to limit yourself based on bad examples. Oh well... I'm done.

  • When I was a small white boy in the 60ies in Berlin/Germany it wasn't possible to see soultrain on TV. I was 10 when I bougt my first soul (motown) record. Now I'm 56 and I have a lot of soul and funkstuff and watch here on youtube soultrain like I'm stoned...It was a great time in the 60ies and 70ies, because the musicoutput was really good quality. I can still listen to my 30 and 40 years old records every day without getting bored-can you do it with the crap of today? I don't think so...

  • Music is not what it used to be man.

  • Soul Train just isn't the way it used to be,now I call it Rap Train. They should bring back the old Soul Train with Don Corneilius.

  • Its soo sad we have really lost a generation of wasted musical talent. Kids nowadays are not interested in keeping tradition alive, such as learning to read notes and play a instrument! Today the artist and producer goes into the studio and make a whole album with just them two!! The artist sings ALL THE PARTS,and the producer puts together some sounds and beats! Barry White is turning over in his grave!! He brought the whole damn Orchestra with him!!!

  • Music and art isn't exclusively about playing an instrument or having a particular skill with a particular tool... it's also about composition, arrangement, etc. In fact, you said it yourself when you said Barry brought the whole orchestra... they played most of the instruments, while his biggest role was in composing, arranging and producing overall.

  • So much talent--such great songs. What happened? How did it turn into grunting curse words over a bass line and stealing melodies from those who actually have enough talent to write a melody. Sorry but Jay Z does not belong in the same company with Aretha, Marvin, and Whitney. Not even close...

  • @wabso

    You Got That Right . . .

  • i remember growing up as a little black boy, i loved the ohio players

  • Man I MISS SOUL TRAIN! I still have memories of watching as a LITTLE girl WAAAAY back in the 70s...I was either getting my hair straightened...Or had just finished cleaning the house *cuz the chores HAD to be done beforehand*. And when I got older...and if we were outside...I remember the block would be EMPTY when Soul Train came on...ER'BODY went in to watch.

  • if you didn't appear on this show back in the 70's 80's and 90's then you weren't jack!!!

  • love this

    R.I.P. michael Jackson

  • I want that Al Green performance "Living for You" Where can I get that?

  • michael jackson was my inspiration. love and blessings

  • Paramount own's B.E.T which in my opinion killed Soul Train. Before the B.E.T

Awards their were the Soul Train Awards.

So many Artist would not get airplay, but once the powers that be notice that their

marketshare was being ate away they rushed to killed anything Black owned.Alot of HouseN---ers helped. Very Sad.

  • Black music contributed to its downfall as well. There is a lack of talent and enthusiasm for "soul music". Whether it's hip-hop, r&b, jazz and for that matter gospel. The vast majority of black radio stations are playing Michael now because he passed. The Train lost its engine....soul.

  • i agree knj3, however the muse-ic will always be with us, it's infinite, a gift from the gods, "we" can/will restore it when we wake up, hotep

  • I pray so but is there an alarm clock big enough to wake everyone up? Alas I/we shall wait.

  • I agree...I even wrote a poem about it.

  • the 70´s feeling was on their own.

  • 70 soul train was the best....the 80 and 90 and current times ruined the show it wasnt as fun as it use to be. Times changes things ppl dont even dance and have fun like they did in the seventies and everyones fat now to INCLUDING ME>..,.lol

  • Oh that was my favor old time 70's. I were littie girl when watch tv every saturday.

  • Don Cornelius is a forever will be the man!

  • Wow !

  • 1970's Soul Train was the best!

  • Love all the music, the memories, the talent and all the great people that make this possible.

  • i just had the same sentiments!

  • man after the 1980 soul train turn commercial.,no good any more

  • yo momma!

  • Wish Mariah could've kept this same image.

  • If i looked today like i looked almost 20 years ago my phone would probably be ringing more.lol

  • The lovely Rosie Perez at 3:52 !

  • To: soultrain

can u post sum clips from the 1987 or 1990 soul train music awards here on youtube?

    Jamal

  • 1970s Soul Train was the best.

    MoTown etc.

Who the Hell let Rappers waste the stage.

Music hit an all time low with Rap, kind of like a contest of who can sound and act the dumbest with pants falling down over the butt just like a circus clown, what a waste.

  • To my understanding hearing it from artists & people in the music industry, rapping got started because the music programs were taken away in schools. And who in the world could really afford to put their children in a music class to learn to play an instrument with a low income ? So they came across 2 turn-tables, made some beats, the rest is history. Yes the music was better back then, but at least to a certain point it is keepin' some kids off the streets doin' rap music.

  • Perhaps that is true but really no different than at any other time with some of the original 1920s rhythm & blues played in the poor shacks really sounded terrible with the limited instruments but was drastically improved when it hit mainstream.

Same with the twangy country music but according to fats Domino 1950s Rock & Roll was nothing more than rhythm & blues but ofcourse the white man put his sound to it which evolved from big band era. Rap is terrible in it's original raw format

  • I do have a great appreciation for all kinds of music , but rap is here.

    so get over it.

Try and keep your negative comments to yourself,

as if we all need more negativity , especially right now ! I CARE MORE ABOUT KEEPING CHILDREN OFF THE STREET.

WHAT DO YOU DO TO TAKE CARE OF THE YOUTH ?? BESIDES JUST COMPLAIN.

  • Oh sorry, I didn't realize my comments were so negative referring to a music that generates hate, killing cops, gang bangin, degradation of society and a people who degrade themselves so low they call themselves nigger repeatedly throughout their songs & even brought this shit to the Awards where there were shootings for the first time ever. So you tell me how I am supposed to love & embrace this shit not to mention it sounds really bad... nigga

It's this music that puts more kids on the street

  • It's this "complaining" you talk of that does help put things in perspective to a youth easily manipulated by the crowd. This negative music influence is the cause of many kids to follow the image, I can watch a video & it makes me want to jump off the couch & do some gang bangin, its highly influential & has been the cause of many dead & imprisoned youth with many innocent people caught in the cross fire & you say I should keep my mouth shut

  • "You better preach!" (I agree with you 100% and I've never heard it said better).

  • That's the way it is & I say it like it is, all I see is that black leaders put their lives on the line to give the black people respect & there is an entire system set up to assist black people then the following generations tore it all down & call each other nigga, I have never seen the black race at such a low point. The nigga thing was supposed to wear out the word to have no meaning but if a white man calls a black man nigga he'll get beat so that means it doesn't work, it still stings

  • I just don't see how when black people favor the style of gang bangers, let their pants fall down just like the circus clowns do, use the language skills of 3yr old, then go around pointing their finger like their pointing a gun, just exactly how I am supposed show respect & be so proud of how he turned out. It's really the most idiotic thing I ever did see, & as always white kids lives are so boring they easily imitate what they see, I really hope this dies out soon.

  • I'm right there with you. It's really sad. It's just as bad for the females too. I hear my nieces saying how they are the "baddest bitc#", and degrading themselves. When ST returns to cable (the centric network). I hope they focus on the 70's and 80's, to show the youth that you can have fun and enjoy music without degrading yourself. I can't imagine "Teddy, Luther or Marvin Gaye, walking around talking about they are gangstas and thugs, or Patti, Aretha or Diana calling themselves queen Bitc#.

  • I can hope it gets better but I think each generation has to do worse things than their parents, perhaps things go in cycles or perhaps they only get worse, as a kid I thought I would always be cool with whatever future generations came up with but I never expected anything like gangsta rap. the hip hop popularity does show promise, I see a lot of creativity that reminds me of 70s music, there is still some good out there & kids will be kids they just need guidance

  • If a black man should deserve respect, other than all of the black leaders would also be Sidney Poitier, Bill Cosby etc but people like 50 cent only setup more black children to be shot or imprisoned & what is a prisoner? A prisoner is a slave & prisons are owned by rich white men. It is people like 50cent who put his own people back into slavery by his influence.

  • OMG! This is awesome.

  • Oh snap, this is bomb! I'm tottally "excited"! lol

  • Why is this channel unavailable to view?

  • OMG now this is what I'm talking about, get us all excited about this channel y'all!!! Somebody PLEASE contact me when the official date is!!!

  • Are you asking when this "channel" is going to be shown? Did I read your comment wrong? This clips are from actual Soul Train shows that's already aired starting from the 70's! If you watch the video again, you can see the changes over the years: the clothing styles, the attitudes, the types of dancing/and the way they danced, the way songs were sang and the meaning behind the songs. Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson and Will Smith were younger when these aired..

  • No, that's exactly what I meant. There's gonna be a Soul Train You Tube channel, and when I posted the above comment, it wasn't ready yet. I've been a fan of Soul Train all my life, and it's about time that official clips from the show will be uploaded here without them being in any danger of getting taken down by the You Tube police!!! LOL

  • Any time table as to when the Soul Train Youtube starts? Keep us posted, If you can......Love , Peace and Soullllll!

  • It's actually already begun!!! Just click on their screen name, & it will take you to their main page where you can subscribe to them!!!
