Further more, just because the album was release in (around) the time of the recording, doesn't mean it had gained popularity yet. These audience members, or at least a good chunk of them, did not know who they were listening to. otherwise, they would have shut their damn mouths... sort of like how you should....

Dave Matthews voice although very unique is actually so incredible. The guy sings such difficult songs with all kinds of notes and he never fucks up. Also his guitar peices are always very complex especially for a lead singer. So while singing perfectly he has to play the lead guitar parts. His role as a front man is huge. Some lead singers just stand there and sing not playing an instrument, this guy does in it all writes,sings,dances,plays guitar and in stand up he played piano.
