Also if i have a corrupt windows file and i cant access my computer but can go to the tools menu u know when u start ur comp and start pressing f8 or f10 etc can i restore from that
I got a small question. I have Adobe Premiere Pro installed on my comp; if I back my stuff up, will that be saved as well, cause the disc I used was one that my old teacher let me borrow, and Adobe is crucial to my video editing.
If you're considering Carbonite, don't! I had been a customer of Carbonite for years. My PC had a failure and the system was rolled back to an earlier date. I go to Carbonite and they can't provide my data. When Carbonite does a backup they write a file to the PC that they're backing up and then they use that file to restore the system. Long story short, I lost family pictures, videos, tax information, work and personal files. I was promised numerous callbacks from engineering that never came.
can u please a make vid about getting back windows explorer

Brilliant review....Thnx.....Virus wreaked havoc to my computer files..had backup of data on dvdrs..i intend to make restore for future easier....took 16 hours to restore to original softwares..and settings...lots of it....want to do it in just 3 hrs.....hope this is effective...........
Ok, so i typed "ntbackup" in the run field but i get an error saying "Windows cannot find 'ntbackup'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again." What do i do???
excuse me,., if i do back up my system will all the program installed in it be lost??? or it will remain there...., i'm just wondering, because i want to back up my system but i dont want all the program to dissapear... thanks...
@nptw0er yes you can do that, because your other drive is on D:\ for example. So as long as you dont touch the D:\ or as long as you dont accidently wipte out the entire drive and specify only the C:\ half then the D:\ remains. Be careful
i want to reformat my pc cos like it takes soooooooooo long to load then recently. i think the ppl who repaired it stole some parts but i checkd n everyhting is there. its jst so slow loading up... ive tampered with regedit, msconfig, regcure bla bla bla u name it, no virus;s or anything, cos when i got it back from reformat... even though it had no programs it was hella sloww + my sp wasnt genuine til i validated it n stufff ahhh help!
wen i click next after i put in the name and dvd drive it says unable to use that filename make sure you are using a valid path and have access... please help (i am a administrator on this computer incase that has anything to do with the access thing)
I think its better to make back ups every week, instead letting system restore to take your HDD memory, and only way to clear that memory is format whole HDD... im talking abt 10gb of system restore etc.. i seen that
i wish i would've done this 2 years ago before i started messing with the windows folder. now every time i boot it up i dont know if i can view my files :( but the good thing is to fix that i just need to restart my PC. :)
ok, great. tha was just what i was looking for aster i lost lots of coursework recently. however i hvave windows xp home edition and can not acess that window. is there any way it can be installed. or can you recomend another program that does the same.
The window you're looking for can be installed afterwards on XP Home. Browse your harddisk or XP CD for a file called "NTBACKUP.MSI" and double-click to perform the installation.
Had the same problem like you, now backing up onto a network attached storage! Hope I could help. ;-}
Acronis. You can make backup directly when you use your computer but I recommend to do it with a bootable CD that the program will make for you so that way you know that it can boot.
how do u know if you have winxp pro.. i have it, I tried looking in system tools but back up isnt there. i typed in ntbackup and that didnt work either.
I had same problem a while back. Its because you have XP home. No problem though, you can install the backup utility from the windows cd (borrow one if you havent got one, licence key isn't an issue) or you can download it as I did. Can't remember were I got the download, but google it and you'll find it, it'll install to correct place automatically
Chose your C:\ drive that should not be empty, you need to select the drive that has content. If you have another drive thats empty thats an area you would save you backups to.
if you have a virus and you do a restore all you are doing is pushing the virus back to a earlier date when the date that you got the virus elapses again the the virus again will effect you PC. When backing up your system is more logical a Restore doesn't replace corrupted system files associated with viruses and apyware also adware. Advice though I would do a virus scan also a adware scan before backing up your system files so you are not backing up adware, spyware, and virus .dll files
i remember using this utility in my lap with xp home but right now some how my xp is not showing this utility in my system typing nt backup from run also not working any suggestion buddies
The backup is not really meant for you to restore after you formatted the drive. If Windows crashed and you need to restore, you wouls try booting in SAFE Mode and doing a restore instead. If your going to reformat then your already restoring everything to defaults.

I know. I wish it had been at least pointed out that it only works in XP. Here I was thinking this was for everyone. I can't even find "ntbackup" on Vista :(
Sorry about that, I updated the video description to say XP. But Vista has basically the same thing, its just that the screens look fancy and are updated.
PCWizKid, do you think you can help me with an issue involving my video card? My video card randomly disabled itself, and when re-enabled, it didn't do anything. It acted as though it was disabled. So I restarted, and after the start up, I saw nothing but black. But everything is still there. I can log on and my files are there, but.... I can't see. I really really need to get my files off, help!!
What type of video card do you have? All the Nvidia 8600 series cards are bad. I would know, two have crashed on me in the last month! I would talk to your manufacturer. . .
Are you sure its the Video card and not the Screen? could be your cable of the monitor screen is defective, or the connection to the video card is bad. Can you try another monitor?
If the problem still persists then I would try reseating the video card inside the computer.
