System shock 2 - Pacifist's approach - Episode 35.5

I'm glad you made pacifists approach this far. I thought it would be impossible. If there ever would be System Shock 3, it would have to meet HUGE expectations.

And now it should meet one more expectation:

Player should be able to complete game with pacifist's approach. - While game should be as hard as SS2.

SS2 has great setting of hardness. However the hardest thing is also a mistake, you can't return from body of many, so you can find there that you have wrong stuff to complete game..

@pehmomarsu Gameplay wise, the fact that you can't go back from the body of the many is not that great, but if you see it from the story perspective, it serves as a good highlighting - a point of no return, where player needs to make a bold decision.

Do you really have to destroy all the eggs? I remember shodan opening door to pod 2 when I had two eggs remaining.

This is probably a silly question but does dropping anything from a height cause damage (like a wrench etc)? What about running at speed and throwing something? I remember a few bugs in Thief 1 that would see Garrett zipping up and down ropes, only to die from a 30cm fall because he was catapulted down all of a sudden.

@BadBags I tried boosting up with speed hypos and bashing myself against some of the eggs, with no effect though. dropping items on enemies doesn't do anything so I never bothered with trying that on eggs. As I said in the video - destroying all those eggs may be possible, but under some extreme circumstances with certain (huge) degree of luck, I made a few choices at the early stages of Rickenbacker (like getting rid of midwifes), that in the end rendered me unable to destroy certain eggs

I thought that you would get lazy now and using the Crystal Shard a way too much. It surprised me well that you still hang on the pacifist gameplay, or at least in showing that it is possible to destroy the eggs that way. Now after you know all these tricks, are you disappointed about the use of CShard before?

And your voice, the accent could be out of any good sci-fi series. I like the small echo ;)

@Acantophis3rd Yeah, I am slightly disappointed that I didn't stick with pacifism for just a little longer, however, even with the four eggs I disposed in my "traditional manner" in this episode, there ware still four black eggs that I had no chance of getting without using weapons. Besides Body of the Many is a dead end anyway, there's no chance of passing through there without once using a weapon, I've play-tested these areas few weeks ago, and those nerve clusters there are just a mess.

It's truly a breath of fresh air, and an accomplishment, to see someone rewarding fans of a game outside of speedruns or mild tricks learned through the interface by manipulating the physics engine and capabilities the designers never thought was possible: it's the ultimate test of what a gamer can accomplish.

I like stories which give you choice but what lacks ultimately is the choice to be the harbinger of violence or the poetic salvation of it. I feel smarter watching these.

What I'm really curious about is your accent. How did you manage to acquire it while studying mechanics? Have you been abroad?

@Johnno3D Accent ? purely self-though I used to speak a bit more generic American-like, but I switched few years ago. I practiced my speaking skills it by watching lots of tv shows and movies. I've been to southern England, ten years ago, just for vacations though.

My thoughts on the issues with trying to stay pacifist is that you should only use the shard when you have absolutely no other choice, and still refrain from using it to kill enemies and such. I like the audio commentary, and you should definitely use it in future episodes :)
