I don't think you are grasping nuances of non-Western cultures. Do Japanese hate foreigners--especially modern, civilized ones, no. Does there society have the concept of in and out groups--yes. Will gaijin always be outsiders by definition, yes. By Western standards is this racist, yes. By Asian standards, it's matter of course.

From someone that lived in both countries, Korea is 10X more racist than Japan. As a foreigner in Korea there was either indifference or distaste, in Japan people are actually interested in the West (beyond salary and visa information) and in yourself as a Westerner.
I have heard the opposite of many foreigenrs in Japan. They all say Japan has a huge problem while S Korea and China are way more accepting.

I think Korean more racist and xenophobic than Japanese. From my experience when I lived in Japan for three years, Japanese were more open to different societies and more willing to make friends faster. It took me two weeks to make friends in Japan. In Korea it took three months. And Koreans are less accepting of others too.

From someone that lived in both countries, Korea is 10X more racist than Japan. As a foreigner in Korea there was either indifference or distaste, in Japan people are actually interested in the West (beyond salary and visa information) and in yourself as a Westerner.

Even if lots of people living in the peninsula migrated to the island, the countries were in their formative years, the nationalistic concepts "Korea", "Japan" didn't really exist during that period,
rather, it should be thought of as: Koreans and Japanese have a lot in common, they're "Altaic", unlike the Chinese, who are more "Sino-tibetan".

Some Koreans were forced but most of them returned to Korea right after the WWII. Most of Koreans living in Japan now are the descendants of Koreans moved to Japan at their free will. Even some of them are illegal entrants.

In my opinion South Korea is more accepting and I think they have to be considering the fact that the United States give them protection and the United States Soldiers freely intermingle with constantly.

South Korea wins acceptance hands down. Japan maybe Polite, but that politeness is usually two faced or a show of formality, one can be polite and still be xenophobic. I suggest searching "Ethnic issues in Japan" on wikipedia, even the UN says that Japan has a racism problem.

@auk002wine I lived in Korea for three years and I speak Korean almost fluently, but no matter how well I speak Korean, they treat me badly and don't treat me equally. I think Korean more racist and xenophobic than Japanese. From my experience when I lived in Japan for three years, Japanese were more open to different societies and more willing to make friends faster. It took me two weeks to make friends in Japan. In Korea it took three months. And Koreans are less accepting of others too.

I've never heard of any Japanese, including far-right people, who support a "pure blood" theory. Actually, obsession with "pure blood" is rampant in Korea, both South and North. "Proud" of being homogeneous!? They're talking about themselves.
And it would be a more balanced if the report include how the Korean communities were split into two camps, supporters of South and supporters of North.

However, it tend to have factual errors. "Ethnic Koreans in Japan remain loyal to home country" is a typical example, only 25% of them are loyal to North Korea, while the report claims "many". Be careful.
