freeze branding is a hell of a lot better for the horse and person! for one, freeze branding doesnt hurt them and the hair'll just grow in white rather than scarring the horse so that NO hair grows in. its just cruel

He needed to have another board to make the wall higher. We freeze brand our horses because it doesnt hurt like the hot iron does and the hair comes back white instead of no hair at all.

Excuse me, what about freeze marking then, that culd be used to identifie couldnt it? Or even micro chipping the horse, my horse is micro chipped. And the majority of the time branding is not used to identifie if a horse belongs to, its to identifie the breed, so i think you need to learn a bit more mate, because ur the one who looks the tit.

First of all mirco chipping is useless..because you have to have it checked out in order to know who owns it. So knowone really cares about it since you would have to get it checked out. While branding is seen right away, and easily identified. Freeze branding costs money as well, while normal branding doesnt

Some good points. Some sort of identification is necessary to discourage the theft of a horse. And no the guy didn't deserve to die (if that is in fact what happened). Branding is self-cauterizing, so there is that. On the other hand, it does cause undue stress and pain for the horse, so I am in favour of alternatives to branding.
