for this particular song, I don't think that the capo does anything unless you are either putting it in drop d and capo-ing the 2nd fret (where you would have to play the song off of the 5th string), or cover every string but the 6th. The former is what Tom does live and in some recordings. Sometimes he actually uses it, like in Feeling This, where he goes to the open E power chord, and sometimes, like in this song, i dont think he uses it much.

i'll try to explain it. basically it shortens the length of the guitar. like in this song the capo is on the second fret, so if he plays the sixth string open, it will no longer be an "E" it will be an "F#". sorry im really not that good at explaining it, maybe u can check wikipedia or something.

lol yeah basically its just like having someone stretch their finger across the second frets on all strings, or wherever u put the capo, its confusing but it makes sense after u play a couple songs with them.

just makes playing some things easier. like if you wanted to play a progression of Am, C, G, all in open chords, but you didnt want it to be that low pitched, you could capo a higher fret and play the same chord positions but in a higher pitch. capoing would be easier than barring and playing open chords at the same time

often tabs can be misleading. the best thing to do is watch and study Tom himself. and that is most likely the studio version you are thinkin of. He is playin the live version, which is much more easier to understand. watch their pepsi smash performance.

and to the man of the video, the point of the capo is to strum the open 5th string (or 2nd depending on how you go by) during the interlude because with the capo its as if your strummin holdin it down on the 2nd fret. but aside, Great video man
