you put some kind of primer so that

your eye shadow stays all day and doesnt crease...if you are using cheap shadows it still might crease a little..

for primer i use painterly paint pot from mac..but the urban decay primer potion works reaally good too :)

Yes primer is important, it helps your shadow last longer, your shadow wont crease as quickly. Try the one from Urban Decay!
