  • the way i check is to twist the chain.(while its still on the bike)

if it twists more than a couple degres, example 45 degres, its shot

  • @AnnaMFink It actually depends on your distances. I commute 13 miles every day (6.5 each way), with longer distance on one of m days off for a training/fun run. My chain wear hasn't hit .75 yet, after 2000 miles. Just buy a tool, it takes a few seconds to check it, and so check it once a week or so. I tend to replace at .75 too, as it saves on cassette wear.

  • Thanks for this.... Does this tool work for all-speeds? That is, does it work for an 8-speed chain as well as a 9-speed chain or do you need a different tool for that?

    Best, KB.

  • @wilkbor yes

  • ok

  • If you bike regularly - say 3 or 4 times a week - How often should you replace your bike chain?

  • @AnnaMFink, after approximately 1500 km.
