  • What wood do you recommend using in California?

  • What wood do you recommend using in California?

  • O_O

    I might be in love.

  • One of the tags is manlys skills....

  • Amazing bow, why not use a sapling though? Is the timber more dense on an older tree?

  • dis iz a real bow, not the "super duper" compound bowz sold in shops. dis bow actually requires skillz to use.

  • @AdolfHitlerGaming damn strait dude!!! there is little to no skill needed to shoot a compound wen u have 10 different sights on there.

  • I don't understand the choice of music. I'm honestly expecting this video to end with white letters on black back drop saying "He was never seen again...."

  • Now I'm expectimg legions of idiots running around with axes and cutting trees just to waste them... You don't know shit about making a traditional bow. Did you ever season the wood?? Did you practice your wood to make sure it bend right and has no hinges? Waste of good hickory...

  • @nishru1000 You clearly don't know what you're talking about. Ever heard of a time lapse? It's evident in the video that this is a properly made bow, if you knew what constituted that, you wouldn't have made such a post.

  • Never though that you'll need to chop down an entire tree just to make one single bow. Seems pretty wasteful =/.

  • @nomad1545 ill want to see you saying that after you have the bow..

  • @nomad1545 yea a bow tht can last a lifetime so stop winning

  • he made a right choice for the wood cuz the best bow woods are hickory, OsageOrange, Yew, ironwood, either mulberry and ash can be used as well as if you don't already know sinew backing bow can make them pull at least 30 pounds more

  • can you list all the tools you used??? I wanna go ahead and buy everything before I start. thanks

  • @TheRealNathanStanley idkwat he uses but a hatchet a draw knife, a reguar knife, a rasp ucan make one wit tht stuff nd maybe sad paper if u gonna put a finish on

  • I am a lumber and I'm OK. I sleep all night and I work all day.

  • I thought this was going to be a joke vid at first. Then I saw you make a field expediant draw knife to remove the bark from the felled log. I'm impressed, nice traditional skills use.

  • nonjew33- Why don't you make the bow and then recurve it using the methods shown in other videos?

  • nonjew33 - Why don't you make the bow and then recurve it using the methods shown in other videos?

  • I think you are an absolute pro at making bows but I was wondering, couldn't you have made two bows with that tree?

  • my question is HOW DO U MAKE A RECURVE PLZ SHOW HOW!!!

  • sweat cloak where did you get it?

  • wat kind of string did u use?

  • Did you use a pine tree?

  • kiss that arrow goodbye! lol TY

  • You chopped down a complete tree to make a 1.5 meter long bow -_-

  • @AmurLeopard8 yea well believe it or not, fallen trees are essential for many animals as habitat, its not like he is the sole reason for deforestation

  • one word: Minecraft

  • i dunno im not trying to be critical but id love to see you use this on a rabbit or deer or something... to prove its not just a fantasy movie prop.

  • did you till the bow.. at all? looks like you didnt.

  • @TheGrimdoor Yea i dont think he did lol. Or atleast he didnt show us.

  • i thought that if you didnt use late wood on the back it would break.

i also thought if you were not sacred to the growth rings it would break..

    no curing?

  • ... its not an axe he used a bush tomahawk... its a bit lighter then an axe... and there for takes longer.... learn to use an axe.... sad. every shopped down a 12 inch tree with a hatchet... its not easy work lol and it does take long time.

  • If possible can you make me a bow like that, i would gladly pay.... I could really use one like that for my travels.

  • gah lrn2 use an axe, that was terrible...

  • well that didnt help me at all. in no way did this video show step by step how to make a llongbow.... dissappointing indeeed!

  • how many hours did it take you all up?

  • One queston how long is it

  • how much would you sell it for i cant make up a price for mine my friend wanted to but it for 20 bucks what do you think?

  • you sir, are officially a badass in my book! =D

  • what is the name of the tool you are using to slice the wood?- the one that needs both hands I mean

  • Not a huge lord of the rings fan, but great looking bow.

  • could u make a bow out of juniper just wondering cause we have tons here

  • @3UnLuCkY3 Juniper makes good bows, less knots in the wood the better.

  • Exactly what makes this bow "Gondorian"? Other than the fact that you like LOTR.

  • Cool cool, Question, what kind of string/twine, did you use?

  • What was the tool used at 4:00 and 5:00? The one with two handles and a blade in between? I can't think of the name..

  • @denhgun Drawknife? I haven't actually watched the video yet because my internet is playing up but I guess that's what you mean.

  • Uruk Hai are so much better.....

  • poor tree. wouldn't you be arrested by now cause your cutting down government property?

  • @neonbluen851 The government has no property. The people have property.

  • Cool video. I want to make a bow now... thanks, like I don't have enough to do already....

  • thank you!

  • i wonder... how many splinters u get?

  • Nice. I enjoyed it.

  • WOOT UGA shirt lol

  • you could use a chin saw but handmaking it really puts somthing into it

  • awesome. The first 3 minutes and 10 seconds was really awesome footage

  • Do you need to dry the wood at all before you can shoot it regularly?

  • dude you realy need to sharpen your hatchet !! it shouldnt need that much of a swing for such a small cut loved the vid though well done

  • Making the bow was cool, you tried too hard to look cool in the beginning though. Then at the end when you had a cloak and all the bands and stuff om ruined it for me, couldn't stop laughing at how cool you thought you were.. lol.. Still thumbs up..

  • @Uberhilarious i think the point was to make you laugh... plus it did look pretty bad ass don't know what your talking about.hahaha

  • did u let the wood dry, if so how long did u???

  • Now we know why the indians lost.

    cheers

  • thats so fucken awesome

  • Great vid, very helpful! Could you tell me what you coated it in after and what it does? Thank you!

  • @monkeyladagain I just rubbed it with the outer shell of a walnut to give it a darker look - For aesthetic purposes. Shoot straight!

  • @SkilledVillager

Ah, nice! Thanks. Could you list what type of trees are good for making a longbow?:D

  • @SkilledVillager this must have all been done with stone tools..amazing..i wish yew grew faster and there was more of it...do u ever sinew back your bows?

  • how heavy was this bow you made (in draw weight)

  • @bullseyebowandarrow It was about a 60lb draw... This was a college project several years ago and the professor ended up with the bow... We are working on several other Tolkien themed vids... Stay tuned!

  • You are awesome! thanks for this video!

  • oh, and what wood was that?

  • @rihardspeters Hickory for the "Southern" Gondorians...

  • @SkilledVillager i noticed your comment "hickory for the southern gondorians..." gondor was a southern kingdom the northern kingdoms go from bree and the shire all the way up to arnor

  • @snickers763 You can live in a tale or really check up what the Vikings, Romans, Saxons etc used. :)

  • you kill 40 feet tree to take 5

  • @mentira2009 so how else are you going to make a wood bow dumbass and besides he can still use the wood for other tools and weapons

  • @Wolfking583 lol, You are right on the money Wolfking! This particular tree made many more bows, became part of my log cabin, etc. We are stewards of our environment - and I promise you we have planted more trees than anyone complaining about this video. Shoot straight!

  • @SkilledVillager thats hickory or elm right??

  • May you please list the name of the tools you used?

  • what tool are you using at 4 minutes? im making a bow and its the only tool i can't find and i don't know what its called. could you please respond? thanks. love the vid.

  • @darklinkchidori That's a drawing knife.

  • @darklinkchidori its called a draw knife

  • wow he even dressed up!

  • by the looks of the opening of this clip! Mate your just a want'a be?? just cutting a Green tree for the heck of it???? ok what did you do with the rest of the tree???? leave it to rot..

  • would have been funny if it snapped at about 7.26 lol.

  • what wood do u use?

  • the video is helpful but why is there this silly music?

  • good way to get bar off a tree

  • awesome

  • epic

  • dude i love your armore and sword XD

  • how many months do you let the hickory dry. like a 6'' diameter tree

  • tree got pwned, and i like the song lol

  • sad as fuck! Try sharpening your axe. Knob jockey.

  • i would cry if it broke

  • were did you get that cloak

  • Then you remove the Bark from your Stave and let the wood dry for half an Year or a Year on an Dry and Windy place (under a roof or a Carport... (but not too hot because when the Wood is dryer then 5% it will Explode when you shoot it).

A good dryed wood has 7-12% Water in it. When your Wood is dryed so far, you can begin to made a bow. You have to watch for the Year Rings set with a Knife or Ae an Ring free that is 2-3 mm thick But dont hurt him, or the Bow will Crack.

  • Thats the Problem the most Peaople have, today you are only 3 klicks away from a "Super modern Glass Bow"

You Chop a tree and half it, than Quarter it, BUT when you do that, you must beginn Allway on the Top of the Woodlog, because there is the Rule: Allways half wood like an Apple falls, from heaven to earth. If you have done this use Glue or Lime to glue the Ends (or your "Stave" will dry too Fast and will have damage)

  • skilleduhm how do u make a bow with like a tree branch cause choping stuff donw is tiring

  • need I say, chainsaw?

  • Do you dry the tree that you chop down in the begining before you started to shape it? Sorry for my english.

  • @OkkiMusic It is best to split the log into workable staves and let it dry for a couple months. That way the whole process takes less time. Check out my other bow making vid. it explains everything in more detail. Shoot Straight!

  • Do you dry the tree that you chop down in the begining before you started to shape it? Sorry for my english.

  • Comment removed

  • that tree is a living thing dude..

  • i made a bow just with a knife it took a long timw but to make a good bow you need to know what wood to use wat length to have and you need the right tools in this video he uses realy good tools to make his bow.

    great video 5 stars.

  • no it doesnt ive made like 7 on my first try and they wer actualy good ones

  • how long did that take to tiller?

  • thats stupid, you have cutted down a big tree for a small bow...

  • @O3kar so true lol

  • @O3kar if you want your ow to be good you have to use the heart (center) of the tre branches suck and break easialy

  • What was the poundage on this particular bow?

  • this takes skill

  • now go and kill some orcs.awsome video

  • Use a chainsaw?

  • this makes me want to play age of empires hahaha

  • dude you rock!

  • why is he using a bronze axe? USE a rune axe! use Runescape! lmao

  • Hey now, well done my friend. Please don't personalize some of these less than complimentary comments. You did awesome work! I also appreciate that you made your own home. A real credit to your commitment to being a self-made man! Keep it up!

  • lol this guys crazy i like how he did everything old fasion lol

  • hey iv got a few Question, what sort of tree was that that u used , did u make the bow while the wood was still green (freshly lopped) and do u know of any trees that grow wild in Australia that i could use to make that bow?

Over all good vid,no long boring explaining parts haha lol

  • @Guny5239

I believe he used ash tree

That is what most bows are made of

  • Sorry man but I have to say it. If you're cutting through a tree that thick use a saw! the hatch you're using must have taken hours to get that chopped to size.

  • No way man tomahawks are rugged!

  • A tomahawk may be rugged but the saw would be less time consuming...

  • Took me 2 hours to cut down a tree of similar size using a saw and hatchet combo. I'm using this video as a tutorial.

I'm at the splitting stage right now. Letting the wood dry out a little first. I chopped it down in the snow.

  • welk hout moet worden gebruikt

  • nice.. cool.. but couldnt you just use a fuckin branch instead of chopping the whole goddamn tree down? lol jesus..

none the less - nice work

  • unfortunately that is a mistake a lot of people make. A branch doesn't hold the strength nor the supplicate the inside of a tree does, besides the fact that the core of a tree does not have that many notches. A good bow can come from a branch but a perfect bow is made this way.. bravo man!

  • oh I never knew that, I cut down a thick branch and whittled it till it got the curve and bend it needs. I made the notches too. But now i need the string, and I dont have any hunting shops near by, no home depo's are any of that - small town you know. Any advice on what i can use for string with every day material, that would be real helpful. I bought thin nylon string, but it cuts - ADVICE NEEDED

  • You can actually use kite string if you really twist it together good... Take a look at my other bow making vids - use the same method and make it extra thick. A branch can work for a low poundage bow - but be extra careful as they will snap easier... Happy shooting!

  • I learned that the hard way...

I tried using a branch and i got all the way to the testing stage, got it strung and everything, then it snapped at my draw length...

I'm going to make a bow the way you did it. Let you know how it turns out.

  • Any type of string works as long as it is NOT!!! to elastic!

The power of a bow is in the wood and not the string. You can use either leather, vibers from your clothes or even normal rope. Though i must agree with skilled villager that kite string might work the best in this row

  • @Nawafino if you can get it try nylon fishing string

  • @Nawafino exactly. a whole tree for a bow?

  • seems to be a bit of a waste of a good tree

  • the wood needs to be seasoned before it can be used.

  • I hope you used that whole tree for something else, too.

  • @saintpwnage firewood

  • Yes. That is reasonable.

  • wat kind of tree is that?

  • sick..

  • i think he takes his roll playing way to serious.

  • how much money would u sell that bow for name your price

  • wow....

  • Loved it!

  • Dude could you make me one hahahaha. I been trying to find a nice longbow that i can afford to buy up to around $100- $150. Any help would be great. Thanks

  • aren't most primitive bows made of dead wood? My understanding is that green wood would not have the strength. I have never seen a video, book or rticle that advocates taking a living tree to make a bow before this one...

  • which tree is it? and which thickness is best for longow?

  • @TheBubaba

you can start at 4-5 cm and low it down untill you like it

  • ok tnx
