@Steelix123 I think it's because they feel marginalized and threatened in the world of modern music, given the success of pop music and various modern stars. While during the 80's and 90's various forms of metal were the mainstream, now they're a niche, instilling the irrational fear that their favored style of music could basically be put out of business. So they feel a need to shout down whatever's popular as trash. Or they could just be jerks. Both theories hold weight, from what I've seen.
