I had the '45(remember those?) of this one- and wore it out playing all day long. My first introduction to Gary Wright. "The Light Of Smiles"('77) was also a great album from him.
What a great live version of this tune..........would have been a phenomemal blast to the past to be able to take this in..........energy must've been insane
That tune has a cool groove, and all of it is performed live with real instruments.
It's a breath of fresh air from all of that stale, pedantic, run-of-the-mill computer-generated rap tracks that the mainstream recording industry has pushed on the general public for the past 30 years.
Gary Wright is one of few singers who could rock his voice just as well live as he could in the studio. One incredible musician, Gary was never given the credit and standing he probably should have had throughout the 70's and beyond. Although Gary did well, he is an incredible talent that should have went on to super stardom with a bunch more of these types of hits!
@3bhui american were skinny back then because did not have 300 channels on their TV, video games, and computers. People actually went out and did things
@nitewingstudio Did u mean "There has'nt been any good music or television programs since the 1970's?" I'm not sure what u mean. In '76 skateboards,CB Radios, Vans, Disco(the good 70's disco) and Go-Carts were the in thing and that was what I meant. Songs like 'Love Is Alive', 'Dream Weaver' and 'Afternoon Delight' (that one by Starland V.Band became popular after 'Love Is Alive' ) aBBA was famous, Kiss (i liked Kiss I had Kiss Alive they were cool) Gary had the best album cover and songs, too.
@ubelieveinme2oo - Is that where this was filmed?? Wow! I was there, too! I forget which package tour that was - I saw Yes, Gentle Giant, Jethro Tull, Rory Gallagher, Starcastle, Peter Frampton, Gary Wright, and maybe others at two or three mega concerts at the SD Stadium back in the day. Great shows, all of them. RIP San Diego Stadium.

He's playing "Blind Feeling" That album was so spacey and fantastic. He never sings anything objectionable. I like that.

Cresskill is famous for this artist (he was 1975 and 6's most famous rock musician) and Cresskill is also famous for being close to the place where the utility company discovered a dinosaur in october 1974 named "the Dwarskill Mastodon". I read he was developing the synthesizer music for The Dream Weaver not far from Dwarskill at about that same time.
Som1 keeps on posting that Steve Porcaro from Toto is in this. Look on Google for the word "Toto" and you'll see "Toto" is a brand name of something + look what it is. Toto was commercial and conventional. One time that girl who looks like Jaqueline Kennedy Onassis posted a comment here. Gary was 70's music all-the-way. That's what I love about the 70's : (ie;) it was the most artistic time in history and all the music and the TV shows were fantastic. Does NE1 dissagree (?)
It was the Yes Relayer Tour. Pousette Dart Band Gary and Peter Frampton Comes Alive. They set the seats on fire during Ritual with Patrick Moraz at the JFK Bi-Centennial concert.
@thirty98 Actually, technically, it wasn't the Relayer tour. Relayer was 74-75. In early 76, the members of Yes decided to all make solo albums. The 1976 tour was specifically intended to promote the solo albums, but after the first couple weeks, they ended up dropping all the solo material and reverted to a sort of a "best of" setlist.
my friend was invited to the dream weaver party in the summer of 1975 in the demerest area and he said it was fantastic wilderness and he even referred to it as being "dream land". and in the autumn of that year the record store in paramus park shopping mall displayed the album cover in the front of the display window all the way till the late summer of 1976. and when people in new jersey talk about jersey they always say he comes from bergen county.
I saw him at RFK Stadium, Washington, DC, in 11th grade! This 1976 tour featured Gary Wright, performing his "Dream Weaver" album. This all day included the "Love is Alive", which hit #1 on the charts!! Along with two other bands; "Yes - Fragile tour, featuring Roundabout" @ "Peter Frampton Live tour, featuring "Do you feel like we do "!! It was a buzz!
someone posted a comment a while ago saying she was the person who was the seamstress for this 'dream weaver' outfit he's wearing + she said the outfit is from '75. was 'dream weaver' on "that 70's show'' (?) . recently the mall was playing the original version + it brought me back to december '75. the hippies were cool in those days. in those days it was like the brady bunch. and star treck.
OMG!!! I am the girl getting kissed! My cousin Paul, boyfriend Scott & I had been waiting for 8 hours to see the concert, took a nap, & I woke him up by kissing him! WOW! That is something. Thanks for sending this to me Molly, take care, Dee
@deirdrems1 Every1's been talking about u on this clip 4 years 'koz u look exactly like Jaqueline Kennedy Onassis July 17, 1976.Bill Graham (the famous promoter) told some1 2 tell Gary 2 look up @ the sky + he was surprised to see that a skywriter had written "Gary Wright The Dream Weaver" in the sky right b4 he and his band walked on2 the stage + i think that's the reason why Gary's expression looks totally turned on.Deirdre, i was thinking that that inspired the song "Phantom Writer" u agree.
@mifune3000 I can only hit "like" once, but trust me I mean it a million times. And to further your point, an ESPECIALLY good time to be a teen in Southern California. God how I miss those days.
ALL RIGHT SAN DIEGO! I really like this video--Gary looks like he's having the time of his life up on that stage, playing for thousands...good for him!
Steve Porcaro is gr8 no doubt but our favorite is Gary. He is from the northern valley area of bergen county NJ. recently the bergen mall had 'love is alive' on their loudspeaker. about a year b4 the dream weaver album was #1 the utility company excav8d a dinasaour from a creek in Rivervale.

thanks mikper7 for the reply and information, but i still think he said HI LOS ANGELES in the beginning of the song, can someone tell me if he said that /??? thankssssss...
THIS IS THE LIVE VERSION I SAW IN GUATEMALA BACK IN THE DAY ,AND I STILL LOVE THAT SONG, BUT WAIT HE SAID IN THE BEGINNING ( HI LOS ANGELES ??) AND AT HE END HE SAID ( SAN DIEGO ) I STILL THINK IS THE COLISEUM IN LA....
@HOUSExOFxLORDS Hi, I did some research. At no point does Gary say "Hi Los Angeles", he does say "How you all feelin today?" in the beginning). This show is most likely from 7/18/76 at Balboa Stadium in San Diego. Gary was indeed opening for Yes, who did not play Los Angeles that summer (they did play Anaheim). Incidentally, Balboa Stadium was a large, ovular, open air stadium similar to the LA Coliseum.
@mikper7 thanks for confirming it was for Yes. That's awesome. Imagine the lineup that night. And to see them at their peak of popularity. That era is pure magic. Someone else on here earlier mentioned that the stadium in San Diego is no longer there, torn down.
I've watched this vid dozens of times and it just occurred to me tonight that he is opening for Yes. Look at the Roger Dean designed pod thing above his head during the low angle shots of him onstage. The props are unmistakably for Yes. View 2:19-2:29. You can see the fantasy creature arm and pod assembly that was part of Yes' stage spectacle on that tour. I can't believe I never saw that, focused on Gary most of the time. That must have been an incredible evening, wow. I wish I was there.
Man, look at the size of that audience! What a great band. Holy crap. This is a young Steve Porcaro! They opened for Yes and Frampton? Oh I'm cryin now. I wish I could have gone to that concert!
WOW- saw this concert in San Diego. Yes, Peter Frampton, Gentle Giant, and Gary Wright. Great show, we pitched a tent with three kegs and stayed up all night meeting many great people. Where have all the good times gone?
I was in San Francisco on business in late 1976. There were already bands covering this great song then. I wandered down to the hotel bar and the house band covered this pretty damn well. Have liked LIA ever since.
Gary visit my home 1970. He was truly a nice person. In that time he produced George Harrisson`s LP "Dark Horses" I Think. Hes wife and my girlfriend was fellows then. Maud Wright, hes wife grow up in a little village, Sjötofta - Sweden and my girlfriend and Maud playing silly games together. Gary invited me to Ringo Starrs 30 years birthday in London, Mayfair but I said no! What a stupid man I was with that time!!
@christer1947ify That's cool Man. We're all from the Northern Valley part of north east Bergen County. U say u r in Sweden, did u know that i heard that the name Bergen is Swedish in origin. Can u send me a Swedish recipe.
A few days ago I had the joy and honor of having this same experience ! Gary Wright came to New York City on April 17, 2010. He delivered a fantastic performance at the B.B.Kings club, in Times Square ! Now after 34 years I have finally had my wish granted by seeing him in person. Fantastic !
HOLY SH!T!!! I was at this concert! The acts were: Yes; Peter Frampton; Gentle Giant; Gary Wright; Rubicon. The show lasted all day and well into the night - it was a 70s thang. What I remember about Gary's performance, is that the low notes coming out of all those old analog synthesizers, really shook the ground. Wow...I was 16-years-old at the time. Thank you for posting this video. For a second there, I was 16 again.
This reminds me of the show at the Oakland Coliseum... Day on the Green #3 I believe. It was called the British Invasion. Gary Wright, Fleetwood Mac, Peter Frampton, Dave Mason and Robin Trower... they don't have shows like that anymore!
Yeah, I know that, too, but always think of him as British. Must be the time he spent in Spookytooth. Regardless of what his passport says, the man is an amazing talent!
I had the '45(remember those?) of this one- and wore it out playing all day long. My first introduction to Gary Wright. "The Light Of Smiles"('77) was also a great album from him.

Gotta give Steve P. his props. he seemingly can create patches from thin air. Awesome Moog bassline here. Very memorable!

He says right at the end "all right San Diego, good to have you with us"
So I take it that's Jack Murphy stadium. That was when people could be civil to eachother, even young people in large masses.

HOUSExOFxLORDS 1 year ago
@HOUSExOFxLORDS Hi, I did some research. At no point does Gary say "Hi Los Angeles", he does say "How you all feelin today?" in the beginning). This show is most likely from 7/18/76 at Balboa Stadium in San Diego. Gary was indeed opening for Yes, who did not play Los Angeles that summer (they did play Anaheim). Incidentally, Balboa Stadium was a large, ovular, open air stadium similar to the LA Coliseum.
mikper7 1 year ago

Gary Wright was born in Creskill, New Jersey, USA, in 1943...; -)

Yeah, I know that, too, but always think of him as British. Must be the time he spent in Spookytooth. Regardless of what his passport says, the man is an amazing talent!
