Very pleased to hear Sports Roundup's full jingle tune. The actual version played was much shorter and is featured quite subtly in this music. The Soprano in the jingle was not exactly what is heard here. Anyway, the point I want to make here is that the BBC World Service has been very naughty to have dropped all the historical jingles. Many people had been extremely delighted by these tunes. Let's hope that the BBC will put it back when it moves to Broadcasting House in 2012.
Bloody hell. Takes me back in time to the 80's, glued to the radio whenever West Ham were playing away up north somewhere (and usually losing (some things never change)).
When I hear this I'm 5 years old again, my mother is doing a fry and asking my father how many sausages he wants. He has his ear up to the crackly radio listening to Sports Report. A neighbour has called in to listen to the soccer results - his family are posh, play polo and he can't listen to the soccer results in his drawing room. My mother worked in the posh neighbour's house before she got married. When I was 5 I didn't think of him as posh - he was just a nice neighbour.
I remember listening to this in the car after coming back from an Away match in Workington, Darlington or Barrow on a cold wet November afternoon. We'd usually lost as well. Aaaggghhh
@7Leningrad Radio Cumbria would often closedown early on a saturday afternoon in it's early years and join Radio 2 for the rest of the evening including Sports Report in early evening.
Haha - wow. Takes me back. Saturday tea-time - always macaroni, for some reason (with some heinz tomato sauce on top), dad checking the coupon, nan smoking a woodbine and chatting to mum. Uncle jim and auntie joy would be round soon after this music started, to take nan over theirs for her tea. I loved jim's car cos it was a vauxhall ventura vx490 and had twin exhausts. It always smelled of players no.6.
cant take it serious because it was made by the Broken BIscuit Company the good ols beeb are prfetty good atg doing a fine show but treachorius at collecting the license fee FOFL uck em
As a United fan (yes, THE United) I don't often celebrate wins on Saturday at 5 o clock because they're playing in the late kick off or on Sunday afternoon. I also support Blackpool, so now as they're in the Premiership they won't be winning too many games. Sigh
Aah,childhood memories. This music heralded what was hopefully a life changing experience for millions of Pools Punters, winning Littlewoods Treble Chance pool
Some BBC Local Radio stations would join BBC Radio 2 at 5pm on a saturday for Sports Report by closing down and handing over to them for the rest of the night then and some would just join up for the results and pools check before handing back to BBC local radio for the remainder of their local saturday sports programmes usually up to 6pm.
Does anyone have the music for the John Player League cricket that used to be BBC2 on Sunday afternoons? Not Soul Limbo which was used for test matches
ditto me. markh is posting absolutely the greatest sounding music ! ! !
I'm creating playlists for each of the past 100 years with as many songs from as many places as I can find. Hope you'll listen and like what you hear ! ! ! !
pure bliss.

This reminds me of traveling home from away matches, if we'd managed to get back to the car in time! Quality.

Nice tune, but the actual tune for Sports Roundup was:
