@wounduppenguin He's obviously not smart enough to understand it. That's what I liked about; it's core simple principle that theists always evade. It's faith versus demonstrable evidence and ascertainable proofs. Nothing to be upset about; he has no proof to retort with as to her very basic assertions. It has that "making the wise simple" thing going for it; which should appeal to theists given scripture, but of course never does.
Children are not supposed to rediscover the world from scratch. Rather than send them off to find the Pacific Ocean on their own, we show them a map. That's what parents are for; to teach them what is known of the world thus far. As for critical thinking; children are commonly taught WHAT is right sooner than WHY it is right. They tend to learn simple arithmetic before the philosophy of mathematics. This kid, IMO, has a better start in life than 99% of the world's population. Parent on, Wilsons!
@johncwilson I appreciate the fact that you keep this comment area as an open forum for expression of opinions and ideas. In my opinion, she has been indoctrinated into a belief system that no child at that age could understand unless schooled into believing. OK, so I made an "assumption". But it is a logical assumption based in reality. No child that age can fully comprehend what is coming out of her mouth, short of being told to hold such beliefs. WBC is not different.
Please watch and listen that's right I said listen to the friggin video not argue over a child that sometimes reads from a script guess what politicians do it too
More importantly to anyone who knows my channel etc. this video is under COMEDY!!!! Get a sense of humor. Sheesh. I shouldnt have to put disclaimers on all my videos explaining them should I?
@johncwilson The Kiara and Creationist Cat stuff was charming even though it also looked clearly scripted and I had no problem with it however this video seems a step removed from that.
You seem to be simultaneously saying this is both Kiara's unbiased opinion formulated on her own and she wanted to go after VFX AND this is scripted comedy not to be taken seriously and therein the confusion lies.
And I'm obviously not the only one confused by the intent of this video.
I see no difference in this child than I do in the children born into, and raised in religious cults.
Anyone familiar with my channel knows what my stance is on religion in general. But this child has been indoctrinated into (made to parrot) things that she can not yet understand or evaluate. I see no difference between her and the children indoctrinated into the beliefs of the westboro baptist church. I try, but I really can't.
@FishHeadSalad What is she had powned Santa Claus, or the Easter Bunny, etc? What would your assessment be as to those? I would agree that she doesn't understand the gravity of the discourse in a manner appreciably equivalent to adults; particularly ones who had objectively researched and evaluated the issue. However, how is reality and demonstrable evidence - more importantly the lack thereof - any different for a child than an adult. The essence of the matter is actually the same.
@BillofRightsBrutus Well, first of all, in my opinion, "she" is not powning anyone. She is being told to say what she is saying, as would anyone else her age taking on any thing like science or religion. Regardless if she was taught to pown santa or the E bunny or mermaids or bigfoot....everything is being fed to her by an adult. "Demostrable" evaluations of evidence only come with learning which comes with time, which comes with chronological growth and education.
@FishHeadSalad - Your argument probably seems like it makes a lot of sense to you. Now think about the fact there are kids, even in America, that will go to sleep on some street without anything to eat for less tonight. You think this kid is too young to know how the world works, what reality versus non-reality is, calling people out, and that the world is mostly church and crown? I'd submit the world is far too cold and cruel for her not to.
@BillofRightsBrutus She is being told what to say, that is evident when she is looking off camera for guidance, she is too young to appreciate and understand the arguments and formulate and opinion of her own.
If this was the other way round if this was a child of creationist parents parroting "pwnage" to camera you'd be saying how appalling it was.
She should be taught how to think not what to think imho.
@wounduppenguin Hilarious. What besides SC or the EB, as a child, did you believe in - besides god if you were raised a theist - and why? I'm not asking "what fiction did you like; rather BELIEVED in?" Further, the sum and total of her assertions are basically fiction versus reality (with a twist) and the fact atheists are misrepresented and attacked for reliance on the same. I never stated her words weren't lofty, but you think she isn't old enough to handle the concept of reality versus myth?
@BillofRightsBrutus I'm not sure what you are talking about or why what I believed in as a child would be relevant and I'm no child psychologist, but I'm guessing she is around 3 or 4 and doesn't fully appreciate the concept.
The point is however that she is being told what to say in this video and reciting it which someone developmentally old enough to understand what she is repeating would not need to do so it's clearly not all her opinion.
@wounduppenguin It's entirely relevant as "your" childhood would be entirely subjective as to hers in the first place; or anyone else's for that matter. You're focusing on the level of vocabulary she is using and avoiding a much simpler discussion of ideas. e.g. Is that rock versus santa claus real? Do you understand the difference? Is knowledge important and worthwhile? Does knowledge equate to some concept of rational logical acumen? If you have it, do you appreciate being called stupid?
@wounduppenguin Those are all questions even someone for her age could be asked I would think. Parents reward excellence and knowledge of all sorts as to their children slightly beyond infancy; I did anyway. I would think the issue of concrete versus abstract, fantasy versus reality, and otherwise naturally follows. Maybe her sarcasm, you would submit, is advanced. I wouldn't. You are subjecting her capacity for understand basic concepts, even sociological ones, to narrow personal scrutiny.
@wounduppenguin If you are an American you should do some research and become congnizant of the reality that most of the industrialized world is kicking the shit out of America in grade school to high school math and science in the first place; what is more, religion and REALITY likely have a lot to do with that. Kudos to the kid.
@wounduppenguin I just responded to FishHeadSalad about all this, please go read those responses before saying anything else. Thank you, have a nice day.
@johncwilson Thank you for your response. I appreciate that has her parent you are doing what you think is best for your daughter. Being taught how to think critically is always better than being taught what to think.
However there is reason there is a lower age limit on youtube, and this video comes across as somewhat exploitative.
@FishHeadSalad Seriously? WOW! For one thing all I have taught my daughter to do is be skeptical and not accept myth and superstition without evidence. Here all she has done is to express that she thought vfx argument was "silly". You compare that to WBC? Has she expressed hate? Bigotry? Intolerance? So I taught her Yaweh is a mythological figure, I also taught her the same about Odin, Zeus etc. Should I not teach her that gods are mythological? She asks about them... so ignore the questions?
@johncwilson Well, you did ask. I count 6 ? marks. Your daughter did not walk up to you one day and say...hey daddy, look what VFX said about such and such...and your answer was VFX? Who is that? I think that is a given. She found him through you and what you told her. You seem to have a disconnect with what I said. I never said ignore questions. But to expect someone her age to fully understand the "whys" of what you are feeding her and expect her to comprehend? continued.
@FishHeadSalad I would love to hear her views and arguments on geology, cosmology, genetics, history etc. Hey, I am on your side as to non belief systems when it comes to imaginary magic beings. But I stand by what I said.
I look at your daughter...I look at the youth of WBC, I see that the words coming out of their mouths, were put there. Unless you are going to tell me that she was reading on a PhD level at 3 Y's O, and that everything she is saying now is a result of that.
@brianestoll Hi Brian, that was exactly what I was trying to explain to him. But, he did not want to hear it. I was just expressing my opinion, that is all. Nothing more, nothing less. ; )
But all in all, I think John's heart is in the right place! And I do understand some of his points.
Kiara, the most rational and special pre-schooler I know of. She deserves to be seen and listened to. Also she pwns the snot out of people like VFX, without breaking a sweat. Godzilla hugs all around! Thanks Kiara.
how could she ever sit thru that video, I couldn't do it, not in one sitting. She's a very brave girl for doing it. ; )
