Scary, but very scenic drive!! Last 10-20% of the drive is really dangerous, hopefully everyone's brakes are working correctly! A ROCKY MOUNTAIN HIGH, for sure
@oldiesmusic76 I actually played that song while we were there! It was a great drive, and I used lower gears for much of the descent to assist the brakes. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@ScenicRoadTrip You should try it once if you get the chance. There's no substitute for actually being there. Beware however that that road is narrow and there are no guardrails. You can see right over the cliffs!
I've tried to climb Mt. Evans TWICE now! Once was in June of 2010 and the second time in July of 2011. BOTH times the weather stopped us. In 2010, the snow and wind made us turn around at about the 4:25 point in your video. In 2011, the road was closed part way up due to ice. I'm gonna conquer that mountain someday! Check out my motorcycle videos at by searching for "kkechter".
@kkechter My first attempt (in Sep, 2005) was cut short at Summit Lake due to weather. I was thrilled to actually make it to the top this time. The weather (as you could see) was not clear up there, but at least I can say I made it. Lol Next time I'm out that way I want to check out Pikes Peak.
@Dinschful I copied this from the Mt Evans website: "About the Mount Evans Road: The first 4 miles, from Idaho Springs on CO 103, are surprisingly flat, then there is a 4-6% grade to the entrance that continues to Summit lake. The last 5 miles have grades of 2-5%, but because you are above 12,000 feet it will feel like 10-15% grade to top." I'll let you be the judge as to whether your Opel is up for the climb... Thanks for watching and commenting!
Seems to be a surprising number of cars on this road, is this a short cut to somewhere?(!) Seriously though, this is a magical video and I'm so glad that I found it. Thanks for sharing.
@Bobcatonline This road only goes to the top of the mountain. I suppose the elevation and the fact that it is labelled as the highest paved road in North America draws many visitors. Thank you for watching and for commenting. I'm glad you enjoyed it!!!
@riolindasucks The engine never missed a beat and didn't seem to be down on power, however we were not out on an open interstate running hard. Let me tell you, hiking to the top I can personally vouch for the fact that the air is indeed thinner! Much thinner...
That road is one of the best in the country to drive on. Great scenery. Beats the shit out of Pikes Peak as well. It's a little remote, about an hour and half from Denver, but worth it!
@cochrab Estes Park is gorgeous, make it up Trail Ridge Road in nearby Rocky Mountain National Park? Another road probably worthy of filming. I live in Texas now and miss Colorado nearly every day.
@MazdaStrider Yes, and at one point there is actually a sign informing drivers that the road narrows! I wonder if any cars ever went over the edge up there?
Thanks for recording! I was up there in 1996, I need to get up there again one of these years :) Definitely a great place to go to beat the heat and take in some of the best scenery you will ever see on this planet!
@ScrewdUPClickV2 Thanks for watching and for posting, Brian! It's definately something to see. I hope your trip is going well and I can't wait to see your videos of it. The western interstates are always a pleasure to see and to drive!
@CD1xonProductions It was really neat, I just wish it would not have been so cloudy. We couldn't see very much from the top, but at least we were still there! Thx for watching!
Thanks again for great view riding shotgun
