Wow. How could 12 mega pixels be too much for a photographer? I'm pretty confident that the more pixels result in a sharper more concise picture. This guy is blagging.
why buy a camera and just take pictures. buy a 9 in one and take picture, video, listen to mp3's, mp4's, voice recording, webcam, mass storage all in one!
In my opinion, Nikon render colors in a vivid kind of thing. Out of the box, pictures taken by (i think) any Nikon DSLR, colors pops out, the reds, the greens, the blues are bright and adds to the feeling of a very vivid photo.
As for canon, the colors are natural. It is like what your eyes can see, the canon renders the colors as what your very own eye saw. (depends on the lens of course).
i just bought my first dSLR. it's the EOS 450D. this was after months of reading the reviews of both (d60 and 450d) and their next higher end models, i'd even downloaded manuals of both and read them. i'd say, you cannot compare d60 to 450d, they're not on the same level. 450d to D80 or even the D90 i think. i love the d60 handling and body, to me it's more "sexier" than the 450d, BUT i love the 450d's AEB, WB bracketing, direct access button (you can even program the "SET" button).
Forget all specs, which entry level camera produce the most pleasing image quality for the eye, if you were to compare the results side by side, D60 vs a XSi or something comparable like this. I tend to believe the canon is superior with a crispier and a sharper image than the Nikon. Anyone agree or disagree> please reason, I am planning to buy between a xsi or a the new D5000. I don't want to hear biases, plz if you have very good personal experience with the two brands, give me a feedback.
I got the Nikon D60 because it's cheaper. I believe both the D60 and 450D gives quality pictures. The 450D has more features. In my country the D60 is 8k cheaper than the 450D and since I saved 8k I can buy additional lens with it. :-)
from what i can gather its a choice between nikon & canon for the best DSLR'S? the olympus are not so good are they. I've heard that to get 35mm film results on digital you need 20mp but this was off some youtube forum freak i heard so who knows. i have a canon g7 and am tempted to upgrade to a digital slr. WOuld i definitely notice the difference on a nikon d80 or something similar or would i be wasting my money for little quality increase? i've decided to not nother with the d 90 due gimmik
Sounds like you know a lot.:) What is the thinking--is it "purist" or more pro-styled sort of--to have no live-view, there in back on the screen? Realise that I HAVE a D-60 so it was a sweet gift yesterday, so I do not wish for someone to cut it down too, too much. By the way, I like a "real camera" with weight, and no one talks about that aspect--a real camera with real metal. I get annoyed at these dismissive statements about light weight. I never wanted a toy camera. But: why no live view??
You must be kidding. D60 only has 3 AF points while XSi has 9! XSi's viewfinder is larger and brighter than D60's. And for color and clarity, haven't you heard of Photoshop? :-)
You can shoot easily great pic without LiveView on D60.
I'm owner of D60, but also use EOS 450. For newbies in photo, i should advice D60.
I think even if you buy Kit VR Lense (D60) - it'll be good deal - but it's better to buy body with additional better, then 18-55 lense.
By the way, if you are more skilled photographer or Canon-system user you could buy EOS 450 - this camera has more universal system and a bit more functions.
I hope, you'll enjoy both of them despite of your selection
i am a beginer in dslr..i got my d60 but im not totaly satisfied when i take pictures indoor...so is the canon better with the indoor pictures...the d60 doenst give a vivid indoor colors or im not using it well ...plz help
You must know, that the main thing in your camera is lence, which influences to the pictures much more than body. Of course, standart 18-55 f/3.5-5.6 is awful.
Canon-kit doesn't make real better indoor photos in this segment.
So first time you have to buy a good lence with aperture at least 2.8. If you need a zoom, you could look a Tamron 17-50 f/2.8. It's very good lence, but you must test it very attentively, especially if it was made not in Japan. You don't need to buy 1000$+ lence!
The Nikon-made lenses are extremely expensive, but there some good price\quality lenses to D60 over there, like Nikon 35mm f/1.8. So you must also buy a flash, like Nikon SB-600. It costs less than 200$ on Ebay - that's a good deal.
So that's decigion of your "indoor-problem" - middle-class lense (with filters, of course) and middle-class flash.
can one of you fucking genius's make a better video then? give the bloke a break, either post a response correcting him or shut up. your not helping anyone with your useless jargon and criticism of the video, he is much more useful than you lot.
how can a camera have any respect if it doesn't have CF? wtf? canon must be smooking pot.. up 2MP and removal of CF, with SD.. srsly. dumb... lens are nice though :)
not bad for a cheap DSLR but change that lens as soon as you can afford it ,its OK to get you started but you will soon get fed up with the frindging...4/5 body..3/5 lens.or go for the 40D & look for a good S/H lens this is another good starter combo..nice but i still prefer Film..and you dont have to multiply your focal length by 1.6 times ..sorry but im old school.. klik & enjoy...
they forget to made the viewfinder a little bigger, advice if you already have an 350d or 400dand you want to buy a new camera ... don't go for 450 go for 40d or better 5d ;), but you already know it ... the lens and the person who shoot made an photo!!!!

AFAIK you can get wild colors with the canon by using +4 saturation settings.

as i said, directly out of the box, without further tweaking of the internal controls.

And you guys should know that XSi and D60 aren't in the same league.
XSi: 12MP, 9 AF points, bigger VF, battery grip (optional), 3.5fps, mirror lock-up, 3" LCD, Live View, DOF preview, bracketing, etc.
D60: 10MP, 3 AF points, no battery grip, 3fps, no mirror lock-up, 2.5" LCD, no Live View, no DOF preview, no bracketing, etc.
