@DarkKefka that squirrel is called a friendly creature but the name of tha creature is called a mu. Its pretty much the same creature as those pirple squirrel except it won't attack you. There is a whole sidequest to the friendly creatures and you should use it if you want to make a certain optional boss a whole lot easier.
About skipping the dialogues...why don't you just comment over what they say instead of reading each balloon every time? I think it would be a good way to let everyone know what you think and at the same time you don't get bored too :)
Please don't speed up the dialogues. This is awful.
About the abilities when you equip an ability you... lets say junction it. It doesn't matter if you have it equipped or not to learn it, but it will not be effective unless you put some of those stones in there.
i can't remember what i named Garnet the 1st time i played through this, but i most definitely didn't leave it as Dagger, lol. after doing one of the side quest towards the end of the game, i played the game a 2nd time, this time using her REAL name. didn't get anything special for it,though (booooo!) if you do that side quest, you'll find her name fits her :)
You should've also bought another Mage Masher and another Dagger to Synthesis them later on at another castle later on. It's like the Junkshop in 8 where you get the materials to make a weapon, but it's using two same or two different ones to get a greater one.
@KnightKiller1000 Those "tips" are also including major spoilers. He's playing blind. Let him make some small mistakes, they won't be a major deal. You learn from your experience and mistakes. (at least, i did)
The "Aries" coin you've picked up is part of a side quest later on that a old lady wants to collect ALL 12 of the Zodiac Coins. You can exchange them for decent to rare depending on the coin you have you'll get. It's like that one quest you HAVE to get from FFX for their ultimate weapons and from 12 to get the Zodiac Weapons as well. Same thing. Also that calm melody music is in deed a sign of a friendly monster that YOU MUST give the item of what they want.
The friendly monster you encounter is part of a side quest for Ozma, if you find all of them they give you a blessing to make it easier to fight. As for the Aeris thing, that's another side quest, the zodiac coins, if you find them all you get a reward for later on in the game.
the reason why od the summon is mostly a tradition it's like why did they actually keep tonberry and cactuar in every ff almost... same answer i believe
That "Aries" are Stellazzio. Its a sidequest to get certain items, from a lady who collects them. they are at various locations and certain ways to get them. try to find them all in the first run through!
Make sure to learm all POSSIBLE ABILITIES FOR EACH Character. The abilities help you some way in a battle. Like Bird Killer. And Flee-Gil, where when you Flee, you still earn gil. and all the abilities in battle, like the magic for vivi, Steiner can use magic sword for certain abilities with vivi's magic. Dagger cannot summon usually until disc 2. and it's going to be a pain, just saying. its possible to summon in disc 1 but if you can get at a high enough level early in the game.
That was me, btw who told you about the special battle. where Friendlies occur.
Its a "Friendly" monster, Brown Mu. That is part of a sidequest that helps you throughout the game. IF you give them what they ask, they will give you alot of AP after the battle. if you kill it, you can never encounter it ever again. its bettter to FLEE then kill it. there are about 10 friendlies throughout the game. They all give various amount of AP, but it IS Worth it. [ aww.. no shoutout. please? :) ]
Steiner's Strength is tripled in his Trance State while everyone else's is normally doubled. Zidane obtains his Dyne techniques. Vivi as you know casts double magic while Garnet/Dagger's Summon command becomes Eidolon; its effect you wont see for quite a while yet: It increases the strength of the cast summon and randomly the summon will use a weakened form of its attack throughout the battle for as long as she is in Trance and doesnt require any MP to cast.
You lost Tidal Flame because you didn't master Detect. Each of Zidane's skills change when in trance; for example, Flee becomes Free Energy and Detect becomes Tidal Flame. You may want to master abilities on weapons before equipping new ones so you don't forget about the abilities later.
Oh and Dissidia and duodecim draw a lot of inspiration from this game, cause like I said before this game is the final fantasy's series creators favorite and what he thinks when he invisions final fantasy. The ability system and the world map used in the dissidia series are based of FF9's, which is a little ironic that it didn't get a new character from this game in duodecim; I would have really liked to see vivi in duodecim.
Steiner's trance makes him stronger. Zidane's makes him stronger and lets him use Dynes (which rock). Vivi's allows him to doublecast black magic, as does Garnet's only for white. Summons play a big role in the plot of this game, so be confident that the game will definitely get around to telling you what's up with them.
Zidane's Dyne ability that he has in trance are based off his normal abilities, because you didn't master detect, when you switched his weapon from mage masher to mythril dagger you lost detect and by extension Tidal flame. and yes you can leave garnet's name as garnet.
Those random battles with calm music, are friendly battles. Those fights play a part in one particular fight(don't want to spoil, yet atleast), so you might want to give them what they ask for when you encounter them :x
Trance increases your strength mainly. Zidanes, Vivis, and another white mage besides Garnet have the most useful trances trust us they will help you a lot in some future boss battles.
cool first one to comment, and i see you're in the town of dahli. go to the observatory tower and speak to the old man about coffee trust me this sidequest helps your thief rank later on. as for summoning, that won't happen till disc 2.

The further along in Zidane's weapons/skills you are, the more Trance Abilities he'll have in the Dyne skills.

There's a place later on where you can rename any of your party members, at the cost of a certain item. I forgot what the item is though.
And the game doesn't pick up on naming Dagger 'Garnet' at that point. It just treats it as if she has a different name anyway.

You'll need the Namingway Card to rename your characters. There are only 2 situations in the game where you can get one.
