@AnonimuzZ You ask what my point is?! My point is that ANY insult on this work is obviously derived from ENVY and there's no need for me to go into detail. So what if she gave it a different content. Isn't she in the legitimate right to do so?! Portugal is now with its mouth full of bragging because of the Fado having become a world patrimony and dare consider themselves the best. Francamente!!!! Até metem dó.
Horrible version of "Song of the Sea." I'm disappointed with Sarah: looks like a hooker with that dress and thereby reduced the value of his magnificent voice ...
I'm still overwhelmed by the horrible negative remarks made on such a beautiful performance! To those that say she's ruining a Portuguese song; what about the English songs destroyed by Portuguese singers with their horrifying pronunciation (most of them)?! Admit that you envy what she did here man!
@luratum Personally, it's not because the original song is Portuguese that I don't like this version. I simply don't think the new meaning she gave to it fits at all. The Portuguese singers can ruin foreign songs as well, yes. The French, Russian, Japanese, Brazilian, Nigerian singers and so on can do it as well. All of them can also ruin their own songs when they try to make multilingual versions of them. I don't see what's your point, lol.
The envious comments made here really make me sick. She's amazing. She's beautiful. She has a beautiful voice. I see no harm done to the original version. Doesn't anybody have the honesty to admit that this is a fantastic presentation and interpretation. Jesus! So much jealousy.
The original fado has beautiful lyrics. Her voice, though not bad, is definitely not the right one to sing this song and these English lyrics ended up being completely ridiculous.
JUST TO WATCH THE HOOTCHI - KOOTCHI DANCERS SHAKE THEIR TENDER YOUNG ASSES WOULD HAVE BEEN WORTH THE PRICE OF ADMISSION ALONE ! UNFORTUNATELY SARAHS ASS LOOKS STIFF AS A BOARD !
I’m horrified. Highly theatrical, stereotyped, an evident copy of someone else’s work, and mostly… mediocre vocals hiding beyond an awesome melody. I won’t lie and say it doesn’t fill me with great pride that the original is Portuguese as I am, but as an English speaker and listener I ought to advise many others out there: ear the original Portuguese version, is WAY BETTER even if you don’t understand any of it!
@destijldelarte Even though i agree that music has no borders, somethings just cant be altered. They are unique and they should be presented and remembered in their original style no matter the performer. If you replicate or slighty adjust what is considered a World Relic, you might make an idiot of yourself, like Sarah Brightman in this video.
No english person can replicate Fado even if sang in portuguese, its not something you learn in a music school.
Brits/Americans are easily distracted by colour, light and trend, most are culturaly inadequate and only a minority truly understand the cultural roots associated to the people/origin they represent.
Whiçe this singer mocks our tradition with this horrible song, Fado becomes World Immaterial Heritage.
GetinHighOnLife:it's people like you that make me hard to believe that american are more than just a bunch on uneducated rednecks. Besides, if you don't know the original you can't make an opinion. So shut the fuck up and go kill yourself. You're embarassing your country.
Maybe one day you'll all get your heads out of your asses and realize there are a lot of countries out there more interesting than yours.
Very interestig video, Sarah is a fanyastic singer, but, just in case, she does'nt have the portuguese soul. The portuguese soul is melancholy and the Fado represents this. I think if Amália Rodrigues sing Georgia on my Mind, the result would be the same. Absoluteli correct, but without the soul of Ray.
Congratulations to Sarah, but our soul prefers Dulce Pontes
1. Slutty is one of the most traditional fado music, which is considered world heritage, become an Arabic music. The true song of the sea with a touch of Arabic, but not this way.
2. Sarah Brightman waste all their potential to go down into pop music. Do not misunderstand me, but Sarah is one of the few lyric sopranos who can keep his voice soft.
I'm Brazilian, but I'm on the side of Portuguese friends.
my friend jose says... please, if you are going to sing the song, please use the actual language, cuz you destroyed a great song. I think Dulce Pontes does a much better version than you. I wonder how you are so famous (note: this is the opinion of my friend, not I, though I DO agree that Dulce Pontes does it better)
fck all these imitations, dulce pontes anda amalia rodrigues are the best and will continue to be the best... this is the most ridiculous version i have heard sounds like someones is sticking a giant dildo up her anus.
Terrible version. The original song talks about the sea and his strenght and this version turned it into a cheap harem song with belly dance and lights to disguise a bad performance.
For those who are complaining that this is "ruining" Portuguese music... sorry to tell you- no one knows any Portuguese music in the states anyways so you don't have to worry about it being ruined.
She mixed a portuguese song with an arabic imaginarium that makes no sense at all, plus all the dance stuff...
Not only she destryoed the feeling of the song, but she also gave the song a wrong meaning... (and the portuguese Lyrics were also very delicate and sad...) This is just so bad...
To be a great singer doesn't mean to scream higher, or to be more commercial (yes, because S. Brightman is not even an Opera singer!)
Amália Rodrigues, the original singer, will always live in our memories!
As much as I love Sarah Brightman, she completely destroyed the original music and its very deep lyrical meaning. I don't even have comments possible for the beats after a couple of minutes.
It's sad. I did not care to see how the "Canção do Mar" turn into a Song of the Sea (english spoken).
But the problem is that it is transformed into an Arabic song! This hand is an Arabic song. Song of the Sea speaks of our country and what we have and devote as much: the sea! Is the Sea that join and separate the lovers...
This interpretation makes no sense, you see ....?
I'm Portuguese ... I wrote this commentary in English for everyone to understand me ...
anyone else notice that Sarahs thigh high boots change from the beginning of the song, then are different towards the middle of the song, the change back to the origina at the end

different from the prototype.
