  • The spiders do not drown ... but jump around ... this annoyed me slightly -_-

  • YES, FINALLY A MINECRAFT VIDEO WITH NO LAG!

  • The top part of the trap has problems. the spiders can wiggle under that area. plus there's a chance that the items will get stuck directly on the platform under the spawner (IE the two block rest that divides the back and front flow).

I've built this twice with varying depths and there's always the same two problems.

  • Works perfectly. You are the man!

  • Hamachi MineCraft server/ username: 24PWn Pass: 12345

PWn is Owner and MinoCraftOnbino is Moderater

  • I am not getting this to work, i've been checking out other video's etc and just can't get it to flow right... just in testing i toss blocks in on the high side and they drop down and just sit there, also the spiders are not drowning half the time :( is this broke in 1.6.6?

  • im building it right now and i am seeing EVERY BLOCK of this video, my plan is make an exact copy of this

i will post another comment if it works

  • I need a guide on how to use all the string this trap would produce.

  • @JaqylAntern, does this work in BETA? Spiders can climb now. Also, people are asking if this kills the spiders, they are only one high, so couldn't they just swim under the cobblestone?

  • @markdadisman007 I made a trap by myself and i ran into the climbing problem. This was easily remedied by adding another water flow like the trap above. The spiders would attempt to climb but they wouldn't get high enough for a breath. Im not sure about escaping spiders, I have a bit more testing to do.

  • so. I built this and its working ok.. my problem is that the spiders are slipping under the first funnel system (since its 1 block high they can fit under it) how did you solve that.. or was your death chamber deeper im not 100% sure but i think i copied yours exact

Also.. I seem to have a dead spot in the middle back flow in the death chamber. is there a way to fix that.. its really not that big a deal. just wondering if addtional blocks like in the flow system fixed that.

  • Nevermind

  • How does the spider die? Does it just drown?

  • Okay im getting desperate: i've tried everything, but the lowest waterflow just WONT WORK. the items never reach me and i've tried everything

  • Well so, after like 4 hours (jesus) i finally got it working all nice :) now lets test it with spiders

  • 3 spiders disliked this design

  • Great idea for collecting items, one problem,

How the **** do u KILL the spiders?

  • made the trap but the spiders seem to be swimming in the water and wont fall to drown what did I do wrong?

  • are three steps needed? or could this work just as well with fewer?

I want to recreate this, but I am surrounded by lava pools, so I have very little space...

  • will someone make a trap that doesnt require a spawner, a spider trap that is

  • i know i sound stupid but Stagnant?

  • @KingShandrew not moving

  • @snykeSSBB thanks!

  • 1) Hold your breath.

    2) Copy all of these steps.

    3) Go to two other video.

    4) Paste it in the comments.

If you can do all of this without breathing you're a good pot smoker

  • waths the name on the video program u use to the video plx tell me

  • I just built one of these, but spiders keep crawling through the upper flow entrance. Is there a way to prevent spiders from crawling through there?

  • I had a drowning trap built similar to this but i ended up having a dead zone between the two water flows. A little bit to either side and it was good but when the mobs piled in I often had a problem with them dropping loot dead center and it wouldnt move.

  • can you make steps on how to make this trap :)

  • @SERVER1992, do a search for video 81ElYspxq7M which has a step-by-step for this trap, minus the sides, and dug into the surface. Easily adapted to spawner locations.

  • @freddotu thanks

  • This is a little more complicated of a design than my liking, but this is good and I'll definitely use it (thanks for this!) since I'm out of ideas on a spider mob grinder.

  • im trying to recreate this but the spiders will swing thew the "flow"

  • One thing.. GET ON WITH IT!

  • the next minecraft will be called minecraft charlie

  • I love how in all Minecraft vids, the narrators talk to the animals :D

  • @samedelsten1 because we LOVE our animal u know

-opens minecraft to kill 100 animal i see on sight-

  • This trap doesn't block the spiders from flowing through. I'm not seeing anything that would cause them to get stuck up top and drown. Am I missing something? I built it to spec.

  • @gumbypokey7, take a look at the video called Tutorial for Jaqyl's spider trap or the one called Jaqyl's spider trap (dissected) to ensure that you are placing the components in the correct relationship. The primary drowning section is two meters wide, since that's spider size, but the flow directors are only one meter (one block) wide.

The trap may be made for spiders, but everything drowns in it, animals and creepers.

  • @freddotu, I looked again at the dissected and my concern is with the front flow. It's wide open 1 block high all the way across. The backflow is fine but spiders can go right through the front flow in your design.

Sidenote, 2 blocks surrounding the trap isn't enough for spiders. I've had spiders get stuck on top of the glass 3 blocks away because they are 1x2. Haven't tested but I think if you just make a wall of glass around the monster trap that goes up higher will solve that problem.

  • @gumbypokey7, it's not my design, it's jaqyl's original product, but in this video, it's been built free-standing to make it easier to view the construction. If you'll look at video number 81ElYspxq7M, you'll see his design built from the ground downward. Only the top seven rows are trap material. In video 81ElYspxq7M, I didn't build any walls, so my build is only five meters wide.

    I hope this helps

  • With the new year upon us, here's the long promised video of building Jaqyl's trap. It's located at v=81ElYspxq7M

13 minutes long and that's with a lot of parts cut out, some sped up. It's filled with notations to make block placement easier, I hope.

Except for the water exit collection portion, it's identical to the one shown here.

I hope all find this helpful.

  • I Just built A spider trap

  • I've created a new minecraft related account and constructed this mcedit video to assist others in building Jaqyl's trap. I wasn't able to properly build the water collector, so that's been left as an exercise to the viewer. As noted in my video, I now have a world file and a schematic file containing this trap. It works quite well in killing everything. Building it was quite a challenge, but my second or third one should go easier. video is located at v=F0S7b-wyOKI

  • I've managed to replicate this most-excellent trap. I used Google Sketchup to build the pieces, one block at a time, not being restricted to materials or binding one block to another. Duplicating and positioning one-meter blocks in Sketchup allowed me to understand the layout enough to build one "on site" in a world, after locating a spawner. It was an ordinary spawner, though, and collected a few hundred feathers in short order.

I'll have a video up soon with the MCedit layout for users.

  • sorry I take it back your website was pretty clear, my mistake. :(

  • you can't expect me to replicate this. Why not show the entire process!

  • Is it possible for you to try to give a side view with letters? Like

    x= block

    a= water

    _=space

    ____a

    a___x

    x___x

or, however it is? or try to draw it out or something. If it isn't too much hassle. Thanks!

  • Has anyone who has built this trap also used MCedit? I'm having a perception problem that keeps me from getting this one hundred percent correct. I'd really like to find either a saved world with this particular trap in it, especially if it is on the surface like this one, or find an exported .schematic file from MCedit.

Any other form of this trap would also be helpful.

    thanks

  • @freddotu I used InvEdit to give myself the blocks as this is my experimentation/test world. I've never used MCedit though. I'll see about dropping a world save, though my primary computer is down at the moment so I don't have access to that save right now.

  • @JaqylAntern, I appreciate the reply. I've only just started to use MCedit and it's pretty amazing. Any world you have to drop this way would be great, if it has that great trap within. MCedit results in smaller file sizes though the learning curve is likely to be a good bit steeper than creating a new world and building your trap within.

  • @JaqylAntern Hi JaqylAntern. Love your narration :) Well spoken. I've improved your trap and build a massive 'non-spawner' spawn trap above it. I made some modifications to your design and gave you credit for your brilliant design. Stop by and let me know what you think.

  • @freddotu I couldn't figure it out either man, so hard to see where what alot of the stuff is without a step by step build. I ended up making my own design

  • Awesome! Thank you very much. it works :)

  • @sopersoon glad you were able to make it work, maybe you could help @freddotu with a worldsave? I can't get to mine right now as my main comp is down waiting on an OS reinstall.

  • help the top part doesn't work!!

  • I second (third, fourth?) the idea of a tutorial. In the meantime, just a side and top schematic would be awesome!!

  • aren't spiders one block tall? can't they fit through the drains right under the flows?

  • i use a flow of water which causes the spiders to be pushed into cacti, i have found it is very effective and highly reccomended!

  • i made this but the strings get trapped half the time near where the brown blocks are, also the spiders escape occasionally and kill me.

  • @ryantheleach Try removing the two blocks where the dirt is in the vid, that is how the functioning trap is built currently. I think I have an improvement for the way the backflow works which will be included in the full build video I'll work on in the next week or so.

  • @JaqylAntern Thanks man, your reply is really appreciated.

  • plz make a tut dude im dying for this ive tried ti or over 5 hours n i cant get it

  • would like if you make a tut please

  • damn im curious now, what was "that guy over there"

  • @ryantheleach Heh, thats a practice build for a tower building contest coming up on the SMP server I play on. I'll be posting a full vid once the contest is over, don't want to tip off the competition too much though!

  • how do you collect the cage and use for pigs?

  • @PewMan852951 I believe there are better traps for outdoor spawning mobs. The one I'm thinking in particular looks diamond shaped and is quite large, all you would need to do is modify its "drain" for spiders and pigs which wouldn't be very hard.

I've been meaning to make one of these traps anyway, maybe that will be a new video, a universal outdoor gathering trap.

  • Interesting.

You should start a Let's Play of MineCraft, your voice is clear and you seem to know what your doing, so I think you would make a great Let's Play MineCraft.

  • Why cant you add some extra minutes showing how a pig, for example (sheep will probably not work), drowns when they get random spawned? Just keep recording, since getting a pig will take long time, and cut the video and put together those parts in Movie Maker or so. I think that will be fine so I can see if the trap actually can drown someone. Or, maybe build one close to the spawn point and drown yourself? It'd be fine to see how this thingy works when something drowns in it. Anyways, good trap

  • @bilde2910games I think I'll just do a quick record of the original trap and add a link to that in the description.

  • @bilde2910games Vid of the original trap is up, not sure if it will help. A full build video IS coming with some improvements, but I need to find the time so it may take me a little.

  • @bilde2910games For my test world, which this trap is in, I use InvEdit for materials, I still do the builds by hand though. This means I could probably replace the block that represents the spawner with an actual spawner and then just build a room around the trap to make it dark enough for spawns to happen. Hmmmmm, I may do that soonish.

  • @JaqylAntern I like that idea :D Making a spawner and building a room around it sounds great! But the spawner will include some hacking i guess? ... whatever...

  • @bilde2910games u find dungeons in the game they have spawners in them, but u can hack it aswell

  • Lol for the sheep!

  • Too strong !

  • @teiseken what is this, I don't even . . .

  • best part 6:13

  • Wow, really cool (first!)
