@shutupobama do you all know that that lion ntwadomela was shot by a trophy hunters.just because they saw this video, fuckin digusting.join me fight trophy hunting of lions till it stops
LOL. As I saw it there was both a female and a male chasing the hyena, and at one point it seemed that "female protects a male" or more like "a female helps a male to catch a hyena". Yet the title is male protects females. Seen it before, just 100 times.
that's not what happened. a pack of lionesses killed an animal and were later run off by a huge pack of hyenas who stole their kill. the lionesses were hiding on a tree that had fallen over and were making calls of distress. this picks up with the male rushing off that pack of hyenas and then killing one. get it?
I'm just saying that it's a pretty unfair portrayal of events. Generally nature documentaries (good ones anyway) at least try to make the point that neither species is right or wrong. And that both hyenas and lions merely do what they can to survive.
It does nothing to educate people when your documentary clearly favors one animal while demonising another. The hyenas didn't attack the lionesses because they were sadistic, just as lions are not being sadistic when they muscle in on hyena kills.
A typical stupid emotional response. Come back when you've figured out how to actually refute an argument, rather than merely throwing out mediocre insults just so you can bask in how big they make your balls feel.
Hehe, dude, I've been in too many arguments about this subject to even bother with facts and actual information, seriously, you have no idea. I just thought, and still do think, that your comment is stupid, it's so beside the point, and only a lifeless, obsessive drain on society would even bother to notice something like that. I mean, hello? It's a documentary, it's their job to make it exciting, plus, when you say "a lion chases an animal half his size?" Do you know anything about wildlife?
If you thought that my comment was stupid, that's your business, ignore it or thumb down it. But if you insist on replying, at least make some blind bit of effort to correct me.
Hehe, sticking with what you assume the argument to be about I see? Shows how intelligent you are, good job! Listen, I know a hyena is half the size of a lion, did I ever dispute that? No! All I was saying was that lions are the hyena killer, not the hunter, and they don't attack hyena's for protection of cubs either, they kill hyenas, because of a genetic rivalry, which they have always had. The music was typical, it's not like they would just remove all music from the documentary, damn!
Look dude, my original comment was merely pointing out my disagreement with biased documentaries.
As a zoologist, it is very frustrating for me when members of the public express hatred for animals such as spotted hyenas based on the overwhelmingly negative portrayals that have become ubiquitous in documentaries.
Perahps I am overreacting, I don't knoow. All I know is that this clip left me cold.
If you are a zoologist, then answer this simple question; How does a male lion know if a lioness is in estrus? If you answer correctly, then you have proven yourself.
If you are talking to everyone, then I don't hate any hyena sub-species. And you haven't proved to anyone that you re a zoologist, you just say that you re.
I don't really get why it's such an unbelieveable claim that I should have to prove it. I'm essentially just saying that I went to college, spent four years there and came out with a degree. Zoology isn't some elitist science that is has thousands of restrictions on who can study it.
I will admit that lions and hyenas are not my speciality. Aside from basics, I know nothing about about them. But if you insist on making me prove it, I'll humour you. Ask me anything.
I believe that I have already asked you a question, but I will repeat it. How does a male lion know if the lioness is in estrus? And if you can answer that, then why does the lioness usually get angry with the male lion when he demounts?
As I understand it, a male lion can recognise when a lioness is in heat in a number of different ways. The first would be via the detection of hormone induced changes in a lioness's scent and urine. Other signs can include changes in the lioness's behaviour and attitude to the males. A male can also "force" a lioness back into heat by killing her cubs.
The aggression shown by the lioness as the lion dismounts is due to pain as the male pulls out. Like most cats, a lion's penis is spiked.
Like most cats, a lions penis is spiked. This is because, in felines, ovulation needs to be induced during intercourse, and thus a male cat possesses backward facing spikes that scrape the inside of the females vaginal canal as he pulls out.
Ease up dude. I sent the seceond comment just seconds after posting the first! Either you are very fast and I didn't see your reply or perhaps you did not see my second post until afterwards.
And no, I did not research the info I provided. If I had it would have been more detailed. Like I have previously said, lions are not my speciality.
A number of reasons really. While I am interested in nearly all species of animal, primates have always been the animals that I wished to pursue a career in studying.
You are pretty much correct, but you also didn't go into details. The male lion knows when a lioness is in estrus because she gives off pheromones from anal glands that lets the male know she s ready to mate; And yes, the lioness's behavior changes. When the male lion demounts the lioness usually becomes angry because his penis is covered with spines or barbs that point backward which hurt the lioness's vagina, so he will receive a bad temper from the lioness. Did you research this or something?
For whatever reason, I feel a female lion looks like she could run faster.. Idk why, maybe it's because they're so much smaller, skinnier, and they look a little bit more like housecats (maybe a mutant, oversized one :D)
I always saw the male lions as bone idle blokes who get the women to do the work ( As it should be I recon ) and then I see the male earning his food.
Also I notice the lions went for the natriarch... Bring down the leader and all that... This is a good vid.
How can people say animals don't have emotions when it is plain to see that they do. So much for being the "intelligent species"

Spotted Hyena:
Average Weight (female): 90-190 pounds
African Lion:
Average Weight (male): 400-450 pounds
Therefore "half his size".
If you thought that my comment was stupid, that's your business, ignore it or thumb down it. But if you insist on replying, at least make some blind bit of effort to correct me.
