@GeorgeStJohnQuimby The kennel clubs will have information on both registered, legitimate greyhound breeders and greyhound rescue organizations for anyone who may be interested in adopting a racing greyhound.
Plus my grey and i bumped into his trainer for the first time in 5 years a few weeks ago, he was visiting the charity(he doesnt believe in euthanasing his dogs), as a nervous brindle he went all daft, it was lovely to see. And sean gave me lots of tips on how to deal with his stiff joints..having worked in the biz it was loverly to meet a man that really cared about his dogs!!!
Geys were born to run and love to run, and we are very thankful in this day and age that so many trainers realise that adoption is the more humane, cheaper way forward....and suprisingly watching the recognition on a greys face after being away from its trainer
I have 2 adopted greyhounds and this video brought me to tears for the majestic beauty you have shown in this loving piece of work.I would not be with out these 2 loving family members in my life.
@BobbyfromPepper You can see more of the artist's works on her website. The website address is in the video notes. YT won't let me post it here for some reason. Thanks for watching.
I am on houndie #2-Rhoda. Some of the things in this video are so true, all to a wonderful song. Greys are smart, silly, beautiful dogs. They love to run full out but then sleep a lot and are great couch buddies. Rhoda is sleeping next to me right now. Thanks for the video.
Greyhounds are the best dogs - end of. We have 2 eight year olds from the same litter. We adopted them 4 years ago and I can't imagine life without them. We're always getting stopped by people telling us how beautiful they are. Brilliant dogs - loving, happy and mad as hell!
My family adopted our male greyhound, Nicky, in November 2008. I love him so much, we call him a "wise old sage" because his eyebrows make him look so smart~!
And we adopted our female greyhound, Suzy, in January 2009. She's so timid and so cute xD I love my greyhounds. They go through so much, and I'm so happy when they get a happy home ^.^
I adopted a greyhound just over 12months ago I love him. If I had known what greyhounds were like I would have adopted earlier. Keep up[ the good work love the video.
Greyhounds are the most loving and wonderful dogs in the world. I do not know any people that are more caring then my dogs. I know my dogs would love me even if I was totally unable to walk, so why is it that our "advanced" species not do the same for them?
I'm in the US and I have been involved with Greyhound Rescue groups for 20 years. They are one of the most magnificent breeds in the world. This video was one of the most beautiful that I've ever seen. Excellent work and a wonderful tribute!
Thank you so much SkyWolf7! I haven't had the opportunity to share my home with one - yet! - but have known many. Yes, they definitely are magnificent. Thanks again. ~~ Lynn
Greyhounds are amazing dogs, they have the most wonderful presence, so peaceful and loving, not all racing dogs are ill treated, but some are abandoned when racing days are done. If you want to own one go to a reputable Retired Greyhound Trust. They love running!
i was at the rspca today and they had 2 greyhounds. one was skin and bone and i mean just skin. his pal was getting put to sleep cause people that raced them locked them up and didnt feed them once they stopped racing them and they were in to badder shape. it was so sad to see : (
Vangelis [The Greek Maestro] is always a pleasure to hear! Graphics good as well! looks as though we start off in Norfolk by the look of that famouse brew! 1000*++++++++
Greyhounds are THE most majestic and noble of all dogs, I wonder if they didnt have the gentle, sweet disposition that they have would people be able to mishandle and illtreat them as easily?
My dad races greyhounds here in Australia and my mum is on the board of the RSPCA, if all greyhound owners were like my dad and mum, the world would be a better place for animals..They are beautiful, smart, soulful animals and I love them...
Can I just ask how many greyhounds does you father have, if he breeds them and sells them to anybody, what he does with them after they finish their career?
My dad doesn't have them put down after they finish their racing careers, they are usually adopted, or used for breeding.. Dad has about 6 dogs at the moment, he breed and races, not really sells, apparantely you don't sell the pups you breed cause you could be selling off your champions....:-) Unless you are a specific breeder....
I hope one day you will understand that leaving behinde living creature only because it is of no need for you is wrong. Breeding more puppies of dog when there are hundreds of thousands unwanted of same kind without home is irresponsible. Your family doesn´t need them for survival (their original use is not needed in today´s world anymore). How many of your friends have adopted retired greyhound?
All 37 on my dads side of the family... How many have you got????
You do understand they would rather run than eat???? Its what they are bred for, to chase.....Trust me, if they didn't love it, they wouldn't do it... That's in my experience anyway...
I am sorry, I think you missunderstood. I AM NOT BREEDING, NOR RACING ANY! I have a grey (adopted, nearly starved to death by his "loving"trainer), so what? Grey racing is business, it has nothing to do with love or friendship. You do not give your friends up when they stop running fast enough. Well, they still enjoy the running, no? Why not keep them and enjoy them running even if they are slower and make no money? I don' t think you know what love is.

Adoption groups have been formed on request of owners and trainers because they want their dogs go to good homes after they no longer have a reason to stay at the kennels. While there are some bad kennels and owners that do not care, most have specific contracts with rescue groups that has their dogs rehomed once they are retired. Many owners were personally rehoming their dogs before rescue groups; now many more can. Adopt a dog if you care; if you don't, they won't be killed just because!
Thank you very much for this information. Are you referring to greyhound racing here in Canada? There is a difference. Here, we don't allow pari-mutual betting, therefore less incentive, less breeders, less homeless greyhounds.
Thank you! I did. Never had a more wonderful dog. Thanks for caring about these dogs after their careers are over.I hope you never stop trying to find homes for these wonderful dogs. They have been our friends for over 2000 years why should we stop now?

Thank you Leigh. To give him/her the benefit of the doubt, maybe XtehXchortX actually knows an owner who looks after their racing greys during and after their racing careers come to an end. If so, it would certainly be a step in the right direction. But there is still a long, long way to go! ~~ Lynn
It is obvious "Lynn" has never been in a greyhound track. These dogs are given special diets, training, and lots of human interaction. She probably saw some 20-year-old propaganda photos and assumed the worst. DO not believe all the lies about greyhound racing. Maybe instead of criticizing a sport "Lynn" obviously knows nothing about "Lynn" should keep an open mind.
XtehXchortX, you are correct. I have never gone to a greyhound track, and never will. But I have been an animal lover all of my life, and involved with purebred dogs, specifically sighthounds, for over 30 years. I'm sure what you say about the care is true of a "racing" greyhound. But what happens when they become a liability - can't race any longer, or stop winning? The owners aren't in this to lose money. (continued in next comment)

What an amazing video. i have rescued a ex racing greyhound, he looks like he is having much more fun now he has a loving home. more people should rescue them, they are so loving. STOP DOG RACING!
Thank you mollymoo1233. No matter what the breed, a dog knows when it's loved. I'm very glad that another found a loving home. Hopefully the day will soon come when we don't need to find homes for racing greyhounds, because they race no more. ~~ Lynn

NOTE TO ALL VIEWERS: YT has registered a copyright notice and is monitoring views on this video. This video is for the sole purpose of sharing the experience of the magnificent music of Vangelis, and the Greyhound dog. This production is not being sold nor will it ever be offered for sale. I've never been owned by a greyhound - yet! - but have known many through my involvement with their "coated cousins", Afghan Hounds. They truly are sweet and gentle creatures. Thanks for watching and commenting. ~~ Lynn
i really like the piano in this song..the slide show was cool but to be honest with you i was half expecting half hoping to see chevy chase and his family jogging in slow motion through the parking lot of wally world.
Thank you for your beautiful tribute to these glorious animals. We adopted a grey last August and can't thank God enough for the joy that he has brought to our family. Please keep fighting the good fight to spread the word of greyhound adoption.
Can't state it enough, a greyhound is one of the sweetest dogs going. Friendly, good with other dogs and with children. Give them a place to run, then watch them become couch potatoes at home. The blurb is right though. Please know what you are doing, the ones I was acquainted with as a child needed to be housebroken and taught to come back when released. GET A DOG TRAINING BOOK, READ IT! Some of the best dogs going, and greyhound rescue is a worthy cause.
Your testimonial to these beautiful dogs, and the advice for any dog owner to train their dog is wonderful! Thank you for watching, reading the video details and leaving your comment. ~~ Lynn
I am totally "for" rescuing these dogs. We have a number of them in town where I live that are rescues (they were featured in the paper). They are so sleek and have a majestic air about them when they walk. Great vid! :)
Thank you! They are wonderful, sweet, gentle creatures and hopefully many will find loving homes. But more importantly, hopefully the so-called sport will lose it's public appeal and adoption/rescue organizations will be a thing of the past. ~~ Lynn
This is aklovely tribute to gentle souls--we adopted three (lost one to cancer)! Unfortunately, there are not enough rescue groups to save all of the excess greys bred for racing! They are killed in the thousands in this country alone! 5 stars and a subscription!
Thank you Marion. I came to know these gentle creatures from the conformation dog show world, and wanted to try to show their beauty, grace and gentle nature through this video. I'd appreciate it if you would post your video on greys as a video response here, and please ask anyone else who wants to see an end to greyhound racing to do the same. I'd like viewers to have links to all from one. Thanks again. ~~ Lynn
I just have to say that I am soooo thankful that my greyhound chose my family as his new family. He is my first but definitely not my last. I just can't imagine how peple could get to know these animals and then discard them as they would a used tissue. Greyhounds are definitely a higher power at work. No humna soul could endure what they have and still be so gentle and loving.
Thank you very much csh0405 for your wonderful comment. It's good to hear that owners of retired racing greyhounds will adopt again - or allow themselves to be adopted again! :) ~~ Lynn
While it first seemed like you were promoting Greyhound racing-I believe you are not. I have been to one Greyhound race when I was a kid in Florida. They are extraordinarily beautiful to watch-but the racing industry has shown itself largely to be insensitive and downright cruel and abusive to many of these dogs once they are no longer competitive-Thank goodness for the Greyhound rescue groups around the country and some racing professionals that are listening-
Thank you for watching and your wonderful comment LLBAIN. You are correct, I am definitely not promoting greyhound racing. My intent was to show what magnificent dogs they are, how they have been loved for centuries, and what wonderful pets adopted retired racing greyhounds can be. ~~ Lynn
Oh no, don't thank me - I'm thanking you!! Ezzy-Woo and Patrick are so beautiful and obviously well-loved - two of the fortunate ones. I would appreciate it if you would post the Christmas Show as a video comment here. People need to see the wonderful work the organization is doing and the beautiful greys that are available for adoption. A very Happy Christmas to you and yours. ~~ Lynn
Lynn - what a beautiful video! We have a retired & rescued greyhound, and she has those liquid brown eyes that speak volumes without a sound. Where are the beautiful sculptures from in your video? ~Ronnie
Thank you Ronnie. I'm glad to hear that another retiree has a loving home. I will try to find the info on the sculptures for you and will message you when I do. ~~ Lynn
I have a greyhound myself. He amazes me every day, even though he is just a pup! I love your videos, MyLaydy. ^^ They are all so beautiful! Nice song choice, by the way. ^^
Thank you for your wonderful comment UnoCoolioPuppy! Greyhounds are wonderful dogs. This video was to draw attention to the plight of those used for racing. Some are adopted when their racing days are over, but many are disposed of in very cruel ways. Glad your puppy is in a loving home. ~~ Lynn
That sounds like a wonderful thing to do Shelbie. I always wanted to do that too, but the closest I got was looking after a kennel for some friends. It takes a lot of time and committment. ~~ Lynn
I always wanted to have a job working with animals, but instead I just have my pets to love -- a dog, cat, bird, fish and a tree frog named "Pudge"! :)
The video was great. Our family has adopted 5 ex-racers and 3 puppies who had physical deformities making them "unraceable". This year we have lost 2 of the ex-racers (Bear and Zap) and one of the puppies (Peanut)who almost made it to his 2nd birthday. They are amazing creatures. My dad always says how could someone not find them beautiful they are perfect, their lines are amazing.
I love Greyhounds... and I have to tell you that this a very good video... Though I do not agree with the idea of using a gentle dog as greyhound for quick profits.
Then we are of the same mind. This video was done to promote the greyhound by providing some history and art and showing their strength, beauty and wonderful temperaments. It is part of an ongoing series on LiveVideo. Please see the video description at the side for more information. Thanks for commenting. ~~ Lynn
The video refers us to the AKC or the CKC for further information. But the Kennel Clubs have absolutely nothing to do with racing greythounds.

I hope XtehXchortX accepts your video challenge. I add my name to those who will keep an open mind- I would love to learn something new and positive about the after-racing life of the sweet Greyhounds.

Reply Part 2 -- If things are as rosy as you would like us to believe, why are there so many rescue organizations across North America? If you know better, make a video -- enlighten us! I'll watch it with an open mind. ~~ Lynn

What an amazing video. i have rescued a ex racing greyhound, he looks like he is having much more fun now he has a loving home. more people should rescue them, they are so loving. STOP DOG RACING!
mollymoo1233 3 years ago
Thank you mollymoo1233. No matter what the breed, a dog knows when it's loved. I'm very glad that another found a loving home. Hopefully the day will soon come when we don't need to find homes for racing greyhounds, because they race no more. ~~ Lynn
MyLaydy 3 years ago
Someday we will stop racing them and just love them like they love us
diane189444 3 years ago
Yes, it's one thing to see them running because they want to, but the "sport" of Greyhound Racing is exploitation based on man's greed. ~~ Lynn

What a beautiful video! I was smiling through the whole thing! Once you've owned a greyhound, there's no going back!!

I've never been owned by a greyhound - yet! - but have known many through my involvement with their "coated cousins", Afghan Hounds. They truly are sweet and gentle creatures. Thanks for watching and commenting. ~~ Lynn

Thank you for your beautiful tribute to these glorious animals. We adopted a grey last August and can't thank God enough for the joy that he has brought to our family. Please keep fighting the good fight to spread the word of greyhound adoption.

Thank YOU pogocharlie for giving one of these wonderful dogs a loving home. We'll keep trying until there is no longer a need. ~~ Lynn

The puppy at 41 seconds is adorable!!!
I am totally "for" rescuing these dogs. We have a number of them in town where I live that are rescues (they were featured in the paper). They are so sleek and have a majestic air about them when they walk. Great vid! :)
LibertyForAll37 4 years ago
Thank you! They are wonderful, sweet, gentle creatures and hopefully many will find loving homes. But more importantly, hopefully the so-called sport will lose it's public appeal and adoption/rescue organizations will be a thing of the past. ~~ Lynn
MyLaydy 4 years ago

While it first seemed like you were promoting Greyhound racing-I believe you are not. I have been to one Greyhound race when I was a kid in Florida. They are extraordinarily beautiful to watch-but the racing industry has shown itself largely to be insensitive and downright cruel and abusive to many of these dogs once they are no longer competitive-Thank goodness for the Greyhound rescue groups around the country and some racing professionals that are listening-
LLBAIN 4 years ago
Thank you for watching and your wonderful comment LLBAIN. You are correct, I am definitely not promoting greyhound racing. My intent was to show what magnificent dogs they are, how they have been loved for centuries, and what wonderful pets adopted retired racing greyhounds can be. ~~ Lynn

UnoCoolioPuppy 4 years ago
Thank you for your wonderful comment UnoCoolioPuppy! Greyhounds are wonderful dogs. This video was to draw attention to the plight of those used for racing. Some are adopted when their racing days are over, but many are disposed of in very cruel ways. Glad your puppy is in a loving home. ~~ Lynn

~~ Lynn
