This is a school of thought called "presuppositionalism". It is one of the strangest theological arguments. It essentially argues that christian faith is the only plausible explanation for rational thought. It is completely absurd.
I don't find this too stupid, because I understand why ignorant people think numbers are immaterial, which they aren't, but yeah, this has nothing to do with jesus of the bible.
@Laylow4now I don't agree that his argument is that mathematics exists and are intangible therefore god exists is a chicken and egg argument. Mathematic principles are based on observation of our natural world, its existence doesn't purport a designer no more than the existence of morality. Intangible items does not equate a designer, or the involvement of the supernatural. These principles come simply from the human mind, questioning whether a tree makes a sound if it falls....cont.
in the woods and noone is there to hear does it still make a noise? Its a thought provoking question.....yes, but to rearrange it to support a particular delusion is blatantly dishonest imho. Belief in any god, magic, tarot cards, hollistic medicine, and so on is based by faith. Faith is belief without evidence. Faith interfering with science is a dangerous mixture.
Yes, 3 is just a symbol. It's a symbol for something that really exists as a measurement of anything and when added to something else that has the symbol 3, it equals 6. BAM
@Tomtaylorross - Yeah, three is an idea we use to define a specific amount of some object. The real question Eric is asking is "how does the mind and consciousness (the source of "immaterial ideas") emerge from a material world? And, of course, he assumes that it's impossible, therefore God is real. FUUUUUU!!!!
"You see, mathematics is immaterial and metaphysical. Why? Because at first glance it appears that way, therefore God exists as demonstrated by science."
It's called an idea, Eric; a pattern of neural firings triggered by a pattern in nature.
This guy is a complete fuckwitt, someone stop this goon from putting out stupid idiotic you tube clips and lock him up in a mental asylum

Well, this is a classic chicken or the egg argument.
Did the universe follow pre-existing mathematical principles? Or does math simply define a universe that was already there?
I see his point, although he did not put it like I would have.
It is an interesting point. Where did these principles come from?
