Patton is a hero of mine, and every video I see or book I read re-affirms why I admire him so much. Despite the negatives of his (and that all men have), his legacy is a testament of the American fighting spirit.
For those who crave more history of great generals, I suggest looking up Hannibal Barca and his BC era rampage through Italy. There is a theory that Patton is a re-incarnation of Hannibal for those who believe that sort of thing. I don't myself, but very interesting nonetheless.

My Grandpa flew P-47's with the 61st Squadron 56th Fighter Group 8th Air Force in WW2. He said a lot of their missions were cancelled because Patton captured the target area before they could bomb it.

Also there are long pauses that show just footage. I have long wondered what would have happened to him if he hadn't died so soon after the war in Europe. Te only thing that I would disagree with this video is that every historian knows that Patton loathed Alexander and Monty because right after the Americans landed in N. Africa both of them said that the Americans fought like a bunch of rabble and Patton never forgot that. Also, Sicily would have been a "model campaign" if they went with Patton's plan of capturing Messina first and then the rest of the island.

Patton is a hero of mine, and every video I see or book I read re-affirms why I admire him so much. Despite the negatives of his (and that all men have), his legacy is a testament of the American fighting spirit.
For those who crave more history of great generals, I suggest looking up Hannibal Barca and his BC era rampage through Italy. There is a theory that Patton is a re-incarnation of Hannibal for those who believe that sort of thing. I don't myself, but very interesting nonetheless.

My Grandpa flew P-47's with the 61st Squadron 56th Fighter Group 8th Air Force in WW2. He said a lot of their missions were cancelled because Patton captured the target area before they could bomb it.

maybe it's just how much we dramatize this sort of thing but i kind of feel like men like patton are of a dying breed in our society. it feels like our politicians have lost their conviction and as cliche as it sounds honor. even our generals are starting to become like this. i'm not sure where we went wrong but it seems like the character of men in that age was somewhat superior to that of men in this one.

Also there are long pauses that show just footage. Essentially it's basically restates a tired point that Patton was a great general and doesn't state how he was really and how RR is reading them off like a grocery list. There is a difference between a story and a tribute, this is tribute.

Patton was one of our greatest generals on the battlefield but he was a disaster in the political arena. I have long wondered what would have happened to him if he hadn't died so soon after the war in Europe. Patton wanted to be a part of the invasion of Japan & I am sure Eisenhower & the Allied command would have wanted him out of Europe given his very vocal hatred and opposition of our (then) Russian allies. Reagan was the best actor to ever play the role of President.

Patton fought hard and descisivly but he had the same weakness MacArthur had: A General who tried to play poltician trying at times to dictate policy instead of just carrying it out, however Patton ultimatally learned never to underestimate the enemy and never overestimate what your men could endure, unlike MacArthur who overestimated what his army could endure in Korea sending his men north ill euqiped to fight in the terran and weather and underestimated his enemy namely China
