  • this was excellant

  • extraordinary point of view from professor gerges, one of the better discussion i heard 4 sure.

  • Thanks for posting this. I knew all this but refreshing and encouraging to see it ;)

  • The Arab professor is Munafaq. This chris guy is more sincere on the issue

  • wow, the guy in the middle has brains!

  • God bless corporate America for doing what Al quada couldn't do

  • Huh? what do you mean? You mean the financial meltdown?

  • Al Quida transition and roll reminds me of the difference between bloods and crips across america. crips-loosly organized, terrible coordination, many, many, many factions throughout the u.s.,,,bloods-more organized triangle organization, less scattered factions, more consolidated...

    just thinking...

  • Considering what bin Laden said about how the abandonment of Somalia encouraged them, it's apparent that it's not the "blunt instrument of force" that emboldens these fanatic Islamics, but rather, any sign of weakness.

But it wasn't Clinton's fault that we ran away with out tails between our legs; it was Kenneth Starr and Bob Barr and their ilk who cared more about impeaching Clinton over a woman than they did about national security.

BTW, I regret to say: John McCain voted to impeach.

  • If we never went in to Somalia, it wouldn't have encouraged them when we left.

  • I think Salim201's comment was meant to go to JushuaPettigrew. He said that what he wrote was a "total non sequitur," which means: an answer that does not follow logically, i.e., a stated conclusion that is not supported by the facts. And I think he means though that the fact that we withdrew from Somalia can't be used to condemn our reasons for going there initially. BTW, it was Bush Sr. that put us there, not Clinton. And the mission was accomplished: to stop starvation caused by warlords.

  • that's just a total non sequitar

  • Bin Laden wrote in his 1996 fatwa: "..when tens of your solders were killed in minor battles and one American Pilot was dragged in the streets of Mogadishu you left the area carrying disappointment, humiliation, defeat and your dead with you. Clinton appeared in front of the whole world threatening and promising revenge, but these threats were merely a preparation for withdrawal. You have been disgraced by Allah and you withdrew; the extent of your impotence and weaknesses became very clear."

  • We did not declare war on Al Qaeda et al, Mr. Hedges. In fact, America largely ignored them, and all that, until 9/11 (in spite of my repeated warnings since the mid 80's).

Bin Laden issued his fatwah in 1996 declaring war on us and calling upon all Muslims to strike at and kill every American and take all their goods.

As for your remark about us being "children with bombs", I guess you could say that about the entire human race.

    Klaatu barada nikto.

  • For me America is still the land of oppurtunities, but i resent its foreign policies when it comes to Palestine and Israel.I hope that Obama can bring a difference to this

  • Yeah, he kind of won't.

  • Fawaz intervention i agree

  • This entire segment was very good. Thanks again, AJE!

  • Probably the best debate on the issues I have ever seen! If the U.S. media was more like this and not the governments talking stick none of our countries would be in this mess!

  • I wish if the media was more honest and real rather than lies and hiding facts as well... Thanks, I was thinking the same all along!

    abbood

  • Al Quaeda is cia starting trouble around world is getting it in more trouble to steal oil but they aren't going to enjoy it sooner or later peolpe will see this !!why not give people job's not war's huh maybe to many people are on earth and some need to go that's not for thier to do only god

  • The creation of disharmonay between Muslims and western ideology may well prove to be a deliberate policy of the longer term plans. This may sound crazy until you recall that divide and conquer is the norm for excusing oppressive violence whether it be domestic or overseas.

  • we need more segments like this. the panel was great. We need more time for these shows, as 40mts just doesnt cut it. I think Marwan could have juggled the panel better, but still an excellent job.

  • It would be nice if you would call it Bush's war and not America's. Most of us don't approve of it.

  • Thanks for adding that :) please pray we elect Obama.

  • Sorry, Obama does not present us with any hope that this ideology will change. A key to understanding this is to see Zbignew Brezinski sitting behind him. This is the man who created Al Quaeda.

The political system in the US & elsewhere are owned and not functioning as they should.

  • yes, thank you,

I hate Bush, I never supported the war, but I feel as if I'm still being hatted on just for being american

  • We{Muslims} dont hate the american people. its the american foreign policy that we dont like. people are people mo matter where they are or what color they maybe.

  • I wish that was true. I thought it was until I saw the RNC and then subsequent poll boost. Perhaps more accurate would be "a lot of us."

  • You need to understand that those polls are fake. Research it yourself.

  • This four part series is one of the best and most comprehensive discussions I've yet seen on the "war on terror" and the consequences of American foreign policy. Excellent job Al Jazeera!
