Did you know this game was originally going to be a Medal of Honor game? It was going to be called 'Fighter Command', but EA canceled, and the idea (and script, I believe) was sold to LucasArts.

Regardless, I think it's better that SWON became a stand-alone title. More unique and stuff.

The German in this game is, overall, terrible. And I'm sure the Japanese is just as bad. And it's beyond insane how the B-17's never, ever shoot back in this game except in the downloadable content.

But... it's still the best flying game I've ever played on a console.

what I do is approach diagonally to the door and then I launch rockets or use cannon fire to blow the tanks, rinse and repeat untill al are dead

Perhaps anybody can help me.I am trying to re-install SWON but it says I need DirectX 9.0B. When I try to install it I get the message that there is no need because there is a later version of Direct X already installed . So I keep going round in circles. And it won't run on the later version.

@metallicasnake You shooting down all those German planes is like a strike/spare in bowling and a par/birdie/eagle in golf. In addition, it's like a touchdown & extra point in football, homerun in baseball, and a 3-point throw in basketball. Nevertheless, they must be done correctly & successfully in order to count as complete, regardless of skill, strength & experience. Anyway, it really pays off in situations like that. GOOD SKILL!

For that mission, concentrate on the Kates and Vals and try to ignore the Zekes as much as possible. Let the other Wildcats deal with the Zekes. The Wildcat, I know, doesn't climb very well and takes some time before you can reach the altitude of the Val dive bombers. Once the dive bombers are taken care, dive and attack the Kates or let your wingman take care of one of them. Repeat until victory.

Hi Ted. I don't have a video at this moment. I can make one and post it if you like. For the second part of that mission, I usually take care of the Vals first b/c of their high altitude. After their finished, I go on full power and dive to intercept the Kates. By the way, the last part of that mission can be very frustrating.

The Vals are the first ones at the scene before any of the Kates arrive. At the start of the mission, I would kill the Zekes first since you're heading straight for them. Once they're gone, gain altitude and go after the Vals. I won't be back home until tomorrow to make a video.

hey man, your not too bad. i just came off that mission and i beat it with all primary/secondary/and bonus goals. i did hit my own b-17 once though :/ what you need to work on is aiming, and how to old down the trigger man!! lol. ur giving pop shots at everyplane. i unloaded my guns directly into everyplane and destroyed all me262's in under 40sec. when u beat that, let me no. but not to bad. nice flying.

I didn't know Bf 109s and Fw 190s could fly at the high altitudes that the B-17 could, and did, to avoid them. But I know for sure the Me 262 could outfly any aircraft of WWII, and could equal with the Meteor and the P-80; with an experienced pilot that is. "It's a hell of a catch.", metallicsnake.

I second that. The 262 is personally my favorite plane out of all the planes the player gets to fly. It has the speed and weapons to take down any opposition. It's too bad the computer 262s don't give me much of a fight except during instant action.

I think you score more points, and are much more popular back at the Officers Club after the mission, if you don't shoot down your own B-17 in the first 30 seconds of the game.

Just an observation....
