the way ships, with ice strengthened hulls, can brake through the ice is by the ship rising above the ice and breaking it with the weight of the vessel. If the captain had slowed down they would have been in more danger if they hit ice and could not break through. They would have stopped moving and in an area where the sea is turning to shuga and nilas, the vessel would have frozen in place and possibly been crushed. That is why the 'dumbass' captain would not slow down.

the way ships, with ice strengthened hulls, can brake through the ice is by the ship rising above the ice and breaking it with the weight of the vessel. If the captain had slowed down they would have been in more danger if they hit ice and could not break through. They would have stopped moving and in an area where the sea is turning to shuga and nilas, the vessel would have frozen in place and possibly been crushed. That is why the 'dumbass' captain would not slow down.

Whaling is of course horrible, but i don't see what gives these people the right to put peoples lives in danger, both their crew and the japanese. All it takes is an unlucky incident and many lives could be lost, all because of this eco-piracy. Sadly, this film survived, so I can only assume that they did not suffer because of their stupidity. I know it's edited for TV but it didn't seem like there were any serious navigators on the bridge there. Plus they seemed to be hauling ass as well. I'm watching whale wars right now and i have to say they have the WORST maintenance ever. Their Helicopter just broke, They had a fresh water leak, a hull leak and lost like 2 or 3 of their speedboats. I wouldn't be caught dead on that ship, I'd take a bathtub rather than those fucking ships that they poorly maintain.

i think Australian gov issued a warning to all whaling communities that they are not allow to do whaling in Australian waters. i believe the Australian Coast Guard and Navy will arrest any of the vessel who do whaling in Australian water. so for those who support whaling, go try your luck with the aussies. :)

I hate seeing whales killed and I love the outdoors (although I do hunt and fish as well.) I agree that whaling needs to be stopped for the most part, but; as fat cat pointed out...these guys are nuts! I have sailed most of my life and am an experienced boater. Most of what is shown on this show just proved the total imcompetence of the crew, including the Captain or whatever the self-appointed admiral calls himself this week. His dangerous stunts need to be stopped before someone dies.
