  • wow! incredible!

  • A fascinating and interesting exchange between two very intelligent nd cultivated gentlemen.

Did Mister Mander get a maintenance contract afterwards?

He constructed a magnificent 'based on a French Romantic' organ in St Ignatius Lyola Church in New York. 68 stops and mechanical action if me memory serves.

I consulted him once for a new instrument n a French renaissance double case. 15 years later, the authorities have still not approved a project! So sad.

  • Did I hear "that's a 64 foot" ?

I've actually installed 2 new 32 foot reeds, but I've never seen a 64 foot. I'd like to tune a 64 foot reed at least once--to an 8 principal too!!

Did I also hear (for a century old organ) "those cotton ties are original"? Incredible!! When I see those hooded reeds I feel this urge to get the old tuning knife out.

  • Yep, the Sydney Gran Organ has the longest pipes of any organ.

  • Not the only organ with a true 64ft, try looking up Atlantic City Hall Organ. Also whilst the Sydney organ has a 64ft rank we may never hear it again as they have said it is not to be played for structural considerations (of the building).

  • Amazing, even a kitchen sink in there too!

  • ...that was incredible. Thanks so much!
