i like records because the cover is bigger and some came with big booklets or pictures.it seems we get less now with the small cds today and the little covers.
Sometimes us oldsters like to hear the scratchy sound quality, rather than the high def quality. It brings back good memories for some of us. At least it does for me!
It's not the record. There's nothing in your audio you can't fix. First, break the ground loop-- that's the source of the hum. Radio Shack makes a transformer doodad with audio cables-- one of the few good products they have. Black cylinder with audio cables.
Second, go to PAIA.COM and order an RIAA turntable preamp kit. Requires soldering & a +/- power supply. It'll get rid of the flat dynamics.
To improve the quality of your uploaded sound, you might try feeding the audio signal directly into the recording device, instead of using a microphone near the speakers. I think well cared for vinyl sounds superior to CDs, which, with few exceptions, sound tinny and metallic.
As someone who grew up on vinyl, I absolutely love them. Let me also say that this Lou Christie record is awesome. LISTEN, if you will. It's not only the song, but the record itself...awesome sound! Good job, my friend.
The dynamics of this recording are incredible. It's really power packed, with a SMOKIN' guitar solo to boot. Great selection kid, dig deeper... you'll find the hits just kept on comin' back then. If you're into studying great music, might I suggest The Byrds "So Ya Wanna Be A Rock N' Roll Star" ??? Learn it, Live it and LOVE IT!!! ; )
@volunteer9999 You are absolutely right.I am 53 and I'm very moved by this.I don't have any friends of my age who still own turntables,a shame really..:(
That was during my first bar days when I turned 21. Lightning Strikes made me fall in love with Lou Christie and over the years still would have loved to have corresponded with him. Don't know where he is now or even if he is living but Lou Baby, that's still one of my all time favorites along with Cherish By the Association and What Becomes Of The Broken Hearted by Jimmy Ruffin. The best three of my life. To the 60's!!!!
I played drums for a band at the Gatsby in Harmerville PA - near Pittsburgh in the late 70's, same time as Lou was performing there too!. He was great!
I know several (non authentic) internet sites, cite the year this song came out was 1966. However, it really was released in 1965; played all the time on WXYZ radio in Detroit, December 1965.
you and i have the same exact turntable. i've always loved this song too. nice to see there's still young people that appreciate the real music. (i'm one too, i'm 33, this song is about 8 1/2 years older than i am!)
Happy New Year ! Have you added any rare LPS to your collection ? Do you find phonograph needles via the internet ? They're impossible to find elsewhere.
Can you blame a young kid wanting to listen to this kind of music? It took musical talent back in the sixties, not like this garbage that's out today. Tks for the video!
The sound quality on LPS especially from your turntable is very poor. There is considerable distortion among the voices and little fidelity emanating from the musical background.
How do you find phonograph needles for your equipment ? Do you go to the internet to buy them ? It might help if you changed the needle. As for the sound of this original '66 vinyl - I guess we cannot expect it to sound much better than this.
Who gives a toss about the sound quality anyway? it's the thought that counts, that the man has been good enough to take the time out to post the thing anyway.
Perfectionist pricks like you who have to cross-examine everything and quote bullshit tech recommendations make me projectile vomit. Go and get a girlfriend for fuck sake.
Yea this sounds like crap but I am intrigued by the back-drop. Where the hell did this young kid amass this collection from? It's rather cool that somebody so young is working so hard to keep this era alive. I am impressed!

Vinyl is shit. You're only holding on to records because you don't want to follow the crowd. That, along with "don't tell me what to do" really gives away your age.
vinyl is definitley not shit. It's better than CD's, there's more interest in vinyl than CD's. Can you just fuck off and stop leaving asshole comments on my videos you stupid prick
I love how your only explanation is "It's better". You can't give any actually reasoning behind it. You're just blindly holding on to some archaic recording medium that is just pointless and mediocre now.

I used to have this on L.P, but it got lost in one too many house moves.
Luckily, I was able to purchase it re-done on C.D.
I only played it once as the needle scratched the livin' shit outa the disc.
Bugger!.

Now that's done, Klaus Nomi (RIP) deserves some appreciation.
An unusual bloke with a bloody good voice.
I still prefer this version of this song, despite enjoying Klaus' version, too.

How long have you been tracking these down ?

mostly on the internet and in record shops in Montreal. I've been collecting for around three and a half years/

Interesting original album cover. Lou still handsome but in a very different way from his '66 image.
LPS have become so quaint when we now hear them - they dominated for so many decades prior to the late 1980's.
