@BlAckVoMitsOfHeLL Whats tables and needles are you using? Most likely, its a bad connection. Clean the contacts in your tonearm out.. also, dont over tighten it. Its common...
Actually, NO...you do not want to ever throw away the auxiliary weight. Different cartridges are different weights. Some (like Denon DL-110) weigh just over 4 grams. There are other cartridges that weigh up to 13 grams. It's with those heavier cartridges that the auxiliary weight is absolutely essential to get the arm to balance.
Nice tutorial. I would add that the adjustments for arm height, tracking force and anti-skate can all be fine-tuned by ear and it's worth the time and effort. The right tracking force is an absolute figure and I hate manufacturers who say "1.5 to 3 grams" instead of 2.25 or whatever. The right height adjustment is important in getting the best sound from the cartridge. Usually you want the top or bottom of the cartridge to be parallel to the record. Or the face to be perpendicular.
bahahah thanks for the tutorial, man, item number one, the little extra weight was the issue for me,,, i'd never bought new techs so i never had to remove those little fuckers, i spent like 2 days scratching my head going "wtf man" wondering why i couldn't get tracking...
thanks alot for the advice this whole time we thought it was the record.... the anti skip was on three the height was to short i would of never know till i watched this vid
Very unlikely. It's more likely to be a worn out or dirty pitch control. This is why it's a good idea to always leave your lids on & keep the dust & crud out!
Fortunatley pitch controls are pretty easy to replace. They just unlplug once you've got the rubber base off.
Hard to concentrate on the text as the tune playing was so good. I mean this as a compliment. Can you tell me the name of the track - one I will find. Thanks for the video.
My tonearm is very stiff speaking vertically. So it moves left and right very smoothly but it is very stiff when trying to move it up or down onto the record. And i tried moving the counterweight all the way forward and it still is very stiff. It should fall down with gravity right?
If your tonearm is stiff in the up/down setting, then you can correct this by carefully loosening the two pivoting screws located on opposite sides of the tonearm. Be VERY CAREFUL when doing this. Too loose, and your needle wont sit securely. Too tight, and well, you already have that problem. Just turn it a hair of a turn - literally! You'll be ok. If it doesn't work, then you might have a damaged tonearm and need to get it replaced. BTW - I work on 1200s for a living.
ok so i did what this video showed and they are balance but one of my TT wont stay over the slipmat the anti-skate is at 0 but if i push the tone arm towards the center and help it it'll stay as soon as it start moving it wants to go over the clamp
hey maybe someone can help me here- i've followed all these directions but when i get to the part where my tonearm should float over the record in a balanced equilibrium, it doesnt. it basically swings back to the right really fast. the anti skate is set to 0 so it can't be that, does anyone have any tips?
Have you had any work done on your turntable? Had the tonearm replaced before, or bought used? If so, then they probably didn't put it back together properly, and failed to set the anti-skate, which is common. OR, the table you have it sitting on isn't level. Get a level and level the table, or adjust the feet accordingly. If it still doesn't work, then you might have a misaligned tonearm. You can attempt repair, but not easy. Would recommend replacement.
the TT's were bought used, so it might be what you've suggested here. i'll probably send it in to get repaired by technics, only people you can really trust in this kind of thing. thanks for the tip though, I got the level after the other guy suggested it and my table/feet are straight, so it must be one of the bigger problems.
Well, just so you know Technics does not repair equipment. Actually, Technics is no longer around, with the exception of the DJ stuff, it's all Panasonic (the parent company). But you should be able to find a Panasonic authorized service center. If your in the NYC area, you can bring it by our shop in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
OK, fine that was helpful but one small criticism if I may? What I didn't see done was putting a record on the platter and adjusting the height of the tonearm, after finding the balance point, to get the needle in line with the record surface as seen from the horizon, so to speak... If you don't do that properly the tonearm could be angled instead of horizontal. Cheers anyway though good effort
How I am. I've lived two blocks from the Castro in san francisco for 30 years. Trust me. That beat is still gay disco. It got called house after 20 years. It's old...it only survived in the gay, italian, spanish, etc. arenas long enough in their discos to finally be picked up and modified with turntable riffs, newer samples, and a few hiccups of hip hop to trip out the beat. That 4/4 will always be conected to G.D. If the accent was on the fourth beat, then it could swing.
I'm guessing that zero argument (but, and only ) just slams is reeking of a bit of paranoia about being associated with inferior 80's material. Maybe even some of those poses those guys got into dancing to the stuff is enough to block the critical mind. It's hard to build a cathedral around empty disagreement.

maybe a silly question. but does anyone know if calibrating a tone arm has any impact on bpms jumping while trying to mix?

Either it's your records or you'll have to check your pitch. That's my guess...

arm lock knob. Go to the panasonic site. Find the "technics Dj" area and find out where the replacements are.

Your table isn't level... Go get a bullseye circular level from a hardware store for a couple of bucks...
You're welcome

If this is the best kind of music you can find to show this stuff with....it's just gay disco. from the 80's. How about some Waits?
