MAF is Mass Air Flow sensor, They give out voltage in the same way but they are work by measuring air flow rather than engine vacuum/load. Some vehicles will have a MAF sensor rather than MAP, or some will use both.
could a bad map sensor decrease gas mileage?? i have a sputter and a miss at highway speeds. have replaced the plugs, wires, air filter, fuel filter, checked for leaks in vaccuum lines, running no error codes as of yet and motor has normal compression pressure per cylinder to rule out that i have no bad valves. is there anything else you would reccommend me to check on my 94 ford explorers 4.0l v6 motor??
@bikr1975 Possible but i think a MAP sensor usually works OK or is totally dead. Also look at inlet air temp sensor, and your car may well have a MAF sensor.
my street bike has a bit of a miss around medium rpm. it is fuel injected and has a map sensor, witch i suspect is the problem, what should i do? i guess i need to make sure i dont have a vacume leak then check the voltage like you do here?

Or is MAP and MAF the same thing. thank you.

or does MAF and MAP the same thing?? im a lil confused. thanks.

Thanks for posting that. I have a question, What does the MAF sensor do in relation to MAP sensor, or is there any relation??
Great video, thank you...

@gordieg74 Yes look for any leaks and check the output voltage from MAP sensor.

@munnsey it turned out to be the TPsensor out of adjustment...but it was great to find this video, very helpfull, thanx

Very informative Nathan, I guess the ECU hold a series of tables that says if you get this input voltage this much fuel is required.

@GTtiOC Yes thats right, fuel and ignition timing, cheers
