  • Very tasty. Great job on the drum sounds too! I am jealous!

  • @JoshuaLockridge Thanks, but this was just supposed to be a test and I liked the playing - the sound is waaaaay too verby'.

  • @rsm76 You are talking to the guy currently recording with a laptop webcam for audio and video haha! Salt on the wound! Great playing regardless.

  • @JoshuaLockridge You're right. You need to look into getting some mics, mixer, etc to showcase that talent of yours.

  • Dude, that was just OFF THE WALL........GREAT playing!! Nice job!!

  • @menom7 I don't know about "OFF THE WALL", but thanks.

  • yeah thats my t shirt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i have the same t shirt (and the same drumming skills obviously)

  • Nice again!!!

  • Smooth, natural, great sounds. Thanks. I needed that.

  • great man...great sound...playing and groove

  • Great drumming, man. What's with the reverb, though?

  • @MikePostDrums Thanks. The reverb came standard with a real cheap program that I used when I first made this video. Check out some of my newer stuff for better sound and video quality.

  • @rsm76 Ah, okay. It's really apparent and even annoying on headphones. Great grooving, though. :)

  • Dude Great Techniqe With your Hands Bro. Mad Props I Love The Creativity

  • i subed cos your awesome :)

  • 50,000 views, nice

  • Sounds great this still:). Are there books that you recommend? That really push your level for sounding more fusion?

  • @101Nermal Thanks. If there are any books, I'm not familiar with them. All of my fusion influence comes from listening to music like Mahavishu, Return to Forever, Miles, Weather Report, Herbie, Chick, McLaughlin, and drummers like Vinnie, Dave, Dennis, Gadd, etc.

  • Great stuff! You know how to groooooooove!

  • Nice feel, Great Pocket! You groove nicely brother! Well done!

  • nice feel man...

  • Amazing dude =) keep like this because you are a beast I really mean it =D

  • Some killer grooves in here man, this is the kind of stuff I always like to play, keep it up, I'll try to post some after I tune my kit good ha. Good job man!

  • this is great man, keep it up!

  • good stuff mon...

  • Can I have your kit please?

  • amazing bro

  • a bit repetitive but non the less great great great feel. ghost notes were perfectly executed and your very talented with the ride cymbal. also the audio mix was superb.

  • Wow, amazing skillzzzzzzzzzz. Finally a drumming video that isn't all about banging away at toms and crashes. Great feel in your style.

  • Congrats on your success. Your skills are obviously evident. You could play with anyone. Hope you are finding time to play music more in your day to life.

Check out my crazy songs when you have a chance as well.

  • men i love this video so much! i love the sound of your kit. can u help me out to get that sound? how about your heads? what heads are u using? if i have a million bucks. i gonna buy your kit! thanks for this vid. ive learn so much on it! :)

  • Email me when you get the million!! Thanks for the compliments.

  • Dude your mics sound absolutely the bomb as does your kit.

    Nice playing brohem.

  • da la puta lo una cagata

  • is that a pearl free floating steel snare???? prob not, just looks like mine kinda

  • It's a Gretsch chrome over brass.

  • obsolutely love it, I hope to get as good as you one day my friend. Keep up the insanely good work

  • Thank you for the kind words. It still amazes me that people like this video so much.

  • you are my hero. if i had seen u in person id want ur autograph

  • Hero huh? You need to spend some time checking outs the true greats of the instrument. Thanks though.

  • ajajajajaja jazz, the mother of all other music styles.

  • Dude, thats awesome!

  • Pro...

  • how do u tune ur snare and toms? they sounds excellent in any style of playing!

  • I keep the bottom heads kind of tight and bring the batter heads up to where they sound "nice" for each drum. Other than that, nothing special.

  • what are your drumhead! can you tell me all of them,,,your kit sounds awesome!!!

  • For this video, they were Evans G1 on snare batter - hazy 300 on snare side, G2s on tom batters. My newer videos have Evans ECMs on toms.

  • I enjoy the sound of your kit...excellent playing...I see your passion...keep up the excellent work

  • Thanks a bunch.

  • Ahhhh the echo you have on your drums is so sexy!

  • tasty chops man

  • Youre great :)!

  • I hear weckl in your playing, nice

  • I would add that (I feel that) his playing style has the appearance of Weckl, too (e.g., fluidity of movement)...poetry in motion...

  • doesnt it feel a little cheap to put on a nice warm reverb?

  • This was my initial try at recording drums and didn't have a clue what I was doing. If you watch my latest video, I think I'm finally coming closer to the sound that I want.

  • wow amazing, so unique and

its got a good flow to- it right on man

  • yes sir...right on man. its got the groove, the touch, the fills. btw im diggin that left hand

  • Thanks. I'm glad you watched it so intently. I just wish I had a better camera and computer back then.

  • i love this solo..really the way you play, is the way to play drums I like to listen..

im new in youtube..I play drums about 4 years ago and yesterday I posted some kind of solo .. check out and comment !! ;)

  • Smooth, funky groove. Free-form, with plenty of room for imrov, displacement, and fills. Parradidle based?

  • Somewhat paradiddle-based, yes - thanks.

  • god damn im inlove the snair sound man love nice!

  • nice man. liken it : )

  • Thanks. I checked you out - simply amazing!! If you liked this video you may want to look at my newest in HD.

  • Oh to play on a mic'ed up set and have it sound so bloody sweet!

Pretty basic stuff but it sounds nice. It was improv wasn't it cuz I think I saw a couple of slip ups, which are here nor there of course because we all encounter them, lol.

    Nice vid over all.

    Peace....

  • Great vid man! Thats a really nice groove solo you put up. Could you explain what your doing on the ride cymbal? Is a linear beat or is it a specific pattern?

  • Thanks. Most of it is linear in nature, but I'm also just playing different variations of paradiddles and doubles, while incorporating ghost notes and accents on the snare. The bass drum is just dropping in occasionally as well. I hope to have some new videos up by the end of the week.

  • great cant wait ! Thanks

  • Hi Rick,

Your Great! thanks for sharing this video. If you wouldn't mind, can you please share the drum notes for this. Thanks

  • Thanks. I'd like to help, but I'm not quite sure what you mean by "share the notes." Could you be a little more specific?

  • fucking crazy!! jazz fusion drummers are the beast! you rock man :D

  • Pretty basic and nice!

    i like it!

try to aply more drum rolls and fills in order enhance it!

  • so soft so sweet... nice drumming dude

  • your techniques and style seems very fun to jam at.......

  • That's awesome. One thing I've always wanted to know is how to apply the "late feel" in an authentic Brazilian Bossa Nova beat like the ones that play in Brazilian Jazz or at the Rio carnaval. I can never tell if something's late or hurried. Do you know?

  • Thanks. As far as your question, I might have a better idea if you could send me a link to video with this type of playing.

  • im not exactly sure but my jazz teacher was telling me about delaying the snare beats a little, that might be it.

  • Very nice feel there. I've been enjoying your videos...very instructive. I think I've been stuck in the old jazz mode too long. I need to learn these other styles. I am not a professional drummer but I have a few clips on youtube under "Drummer Richard Gray". I would appreciate your critique of my playing if you have a moment. Thanks!

  • Man that was nice, I realy enjoyed that! Nice groove, nice sound, nothing hard too the ears.. wondering if I can play a groove like that one day.. If not I still have my guitar :) great groove Mr drummer

  • Hot Sizzlin'''' -- Very Understood-- thanks for the coolness-- Steph.

  • Definitely sounds awesome.

Did you take lessons or are you self taught?

  • Thanks. I took lessons when I was younger, but am mostly self-taught. I did take a few lessons from about ten years ago from Jojo Mayer in NYC.

  • I like your style of drumming. Have you ever thought of making drum loops for people to use in their songs? I was just wondering.

  • Greatest feeling and sense and coordination. I Like this type of solo

  • Very nice !

  • Amazing playing with taste ,sence and feeling

    keep on playin!

  • Man, you definitely know what groove is! Your kit also sounds amazing! Love the crash cymbal beside your Hi-Hat. Is it a Sabian HHX Evolution Crash?

  • Thank you. Groove is very important to me when I play. All cymbals are from the Evolution line.

  • great, man i was just watching travis barkers souljia boy and let me tell you we has nothing on you!

  • Travis is good, but not really my style of playing. Thanks for the kind words though.

  • haha travis barker has nothing on any drummer xD

  • @somos999 +1

  • wow. this is an awesome groove. it is definitely a progressive jazz type style. great groove!!!

  • amazing!!!!!!

  • man your very very good drummer but i like you in your other videos you are very very good drummer keep going dude !!!!

  • Execellent, you make everybody feel the groove in the right way, nice technique

  • ótimo,adorei cara,parabéns

  • nice

  • Wow man...that is amazing!

  • some nice grooves man you need to chill it with that reverb though hahaha

  • Check out some of my newer videos - the sound is much better. When I recorded this, I was still experimenting with equipment and never really intended this to be posted. Thanks for the feedback.

  • very, very nice..very good feel

  • hahahha i agree with you

  • Not bad, man. I like it.

Also, if you don't mind me saying, I think you have an uncanny resemblence to Steve Carell.

  • I aggree the snare sounds cool but not just that the drummer is cool too! ^^ ... anyways how did you realize this is a fusion of rock and jazz? i think this is a pure jazz..

  • yeah i thought exactly the same when i saw this vid...sounds like pure jazz to me..anyway pretty cool solo ;) rock on

  • thats a great drum sound, are those gretsch?

  • Thanks. Yes - check out the information on my channel page for all of the specs on the drums.

  • Everything sounds really good here. What splash cymbals are you using?

  • In this video I'm using a 6" A Custom and a Sabian 6" Cymbal Disc.

  • I like your feel. Nice and smooth

  • Very nice! Thanks for posting this!

  • Superb playing there. keep it up!

  • great playin' man! I realy enjoyed it

  • man your snare RULE! what heads are you using and how do you tune it? thanks!

  • Thanks. The snare is a Gretsch chrome over brass 5"x14". The heads are an Evans G1 coated on the batter side and an Evans Hazy 300 on the snare side. I try to tune the bottom head relatively tight and the top head tight without choking the sound. I test the top head by buzzing with my left hand. When I can get a "nice bounce", I tighten until it chokes - then back off until I get it where I want it. Hope this helps.

  • Nice drumming!

  • I just love the way you play! awesome sound!

  • sounds like you're in a stadium. really good though lol

  • thats pretty verby for this room......what did you do.

  • For this recording, I used setting 00 on the mixing board (see equipment on channel page) with the overhead turned up relatively high.

  • great playing and sound

  • Wow. I'm very impressed by this solo. It's kind of sad that a great solo like this only has 900 views and people who put crap videos of themselves attempting to play have 15-20 thousand

But good job man. Great vid.

  • Thanks for the kind words - I'm glad you were able to appreciate it.

  • What Kind of Mics do you use?

  • I listed all of my equipment, including microphones, on my channel page. I use CAD's Pro Drum mic 4-pk and Audio Technica on hh and overhead. Check out Musician's Friend. They're inexpensive, but pick up a great sound.

  • Sweet! Great sound, stuff like this makes me wish i had some drums at home, good work man!

  • Nice Technique Rick!

Thanx for the response on my video.

  • woow man!! i like soo much this!

  • Hi again Rick-

Benjamin just watched the video and said "I like how he's playing the drums. It sounds loud!" We watched it twice he liked it so much.

  • yeah man! good groove! and nice sound!:)

  • I'd like to hear you play with a jazz fusion band.

  • oh man, so much better! I can actually hear the strokes on the ride cymbal now and see everything clearly. well done.
