There is only so much power you can put through the back tyres. Not so much BHP but the torque. The Black version simply has to much of it. The cars traction control simply cant put the power down on the road. If it was 4 wheel drive you could but the power down no problem. I love the look of the SLS AMG. If I had the money I would order one today. Anyone with a spare 160 thousand quid please let me know and I will put it to good use.

I have a question, is this really a 'Supercar', or is it a sports car, since it shares the same engine as all the others, I don't know why the S65 AMG is a luxury sedan when this, weaker version's a 'super' car.

a supercar needs a super price and this will be a great sports cars in my mind. Its to cheap for a real exclusive supercar. A Corvette ZR1 is also a "normal" sports car to me. Super cars are Carrera GT,Pagani Zonda,Enzo,Veyron. But the Mercedes SLS is just great, it looks also awesome. Mercedes made a great retro look here, its a dream car.

Those are not viper body panels. Its just camo over its real body. Without the camo, i didnt think it resembled the viper in any way. At first, I actually thought it was a facelifted SLR with an old-school grill. Which , indeed it seems.

I don't know what engine the SLS uses but I do know that the Viper uses an old lamborghini engine the 8.3L V10 but they've kept it because even though its old design they just keep upgrading it hence pumping out more HP. But you guys are right it does look like a Viper but whether its got the same engine or not I'm not sure.

bEaZzy89, you do realize that the original AMG SLS test mule was the Viper right? One could expect some of the Vipers dimensions could have come across in the final SLS. That is a good way to assure the final cars balance would stay the same.The SLS is a great car, it brings a beautiful dual clutch for ultra quick shifting, and a trans axle in the rear for better weight distribution, but it is no Viper. The Viper especially the ACR stands on it's own merits.

Most definitely hietsjot, the SLS is an homage to the heritage of the Gullwing. That is why you won't get me to say bad about it. The SLS is without a doubt a great car. Yet even, Mercedes with all their touring and racing history, showed respect for what the Viper represented when they chose the Viper as a test mule. Both are great cars but they are too different in their philosophical approach to performance to be compared against each other just as bEaZzy89 suggested. I'm just nicer about it.

Id say they are uncomparable. My conclusion is that they are both sexy as hell and both fast as hell. My question would be "Why is Mercedes replacing its flagship super car with something heavier and slower?" (Not that the new SLS is going to be slow by any means.) Sure they dont have the extra help from McLaren but AMG is more than capable. Look at the Pagani Zonda for example, thats got an AMG V12.

Looks like a Z8/mini Viper when it's in its disguise.

The press photos of the SLS look pretty cool though, I love how they are giving it the classic gullwing doors and a massive 560 horsepower V8.

It won't be as gnarly as the SLR was, seeing as McLaren won't be helping them at all, but I already like it way more than the SLR.

I agree. The front grill is my favorite piece on this car. Looks exactly like the old 300SL. I had heard rumor that for tests they did in fact use a Viper chassis/body panels, though i cant confirm that its true or credibility. McLaren has some new stuff coming up too, if you haven't seen it yet, you should check out the new P11, its going to be built in England and expected to have some where north of 600 horses. Looks great too.

the body...if you looked at it, was pieced together from scrap pieces of plastic that were riveted together to make a somewhat aerodynamic body...simply to test the drive train. the actual car will closely resemble the SLR McLaren.
