Most of them probably have tickets.. Just like most trains - you buy your ticket before you get on. In India, you'll have random checks and if you don't have a ticket, you'll either be fined officially - or- pay a cash bribe (as bribes are common way of getting anything done in India).

The trains are divided into First and Second Class compartments. This is a First class compartment. If you think this is bad......
