@OhSeeyou I think she reminds him of a real person. Patrick is totally and completely involved in a world where materialism is the most important thing in the world. Commercial success and banality is all that matters, and it is this that drives him to his insanity. Jean represents a normal person, outside of this successful, materialistic bubble. It's almost like she brings him back down to earth, even if its for a split second. I think he feels deep down that she deserves to live.
this scene is the only one that doesn't fit with the rest of the movie. at this point in, the movie already established that he's a primary psychopath, not a secondary psychopath meaning he wasnt tought or exposed to pschycotic behaviours from his environment to sculpt him into one himself but rather he was born with the conscience part of his brain already missing (primary). so why is he being thoughtfull to the survival of his secretary at this point he wasnt thinking ofher secretarial benefit
What are you an admiring psych major or just became a psych major?
There are two simple answers: 1) It's a movie not a documentary or even a mockumentary. They care more for establishing plot and characters as they see than to be accurate.
2) Not everything is by the book. ESPECIALLY the field of human psychology. Only topic in life that's by the book is mathematics (until Alice in Wonderland happened) and logic and reasoning.
Is it just me or is Jean's dorkiness and awkwardness just a little bit cute? Plus she wants to better herself, not like the other parasites who care more about catering to their egos and their careers while still being hollow and unfulfilled on the inside. I think that's why Patrich really decided to spare her, because unlike the others she didn't invoke his rage.
@WOAHTIME pointed out (in another youtube clip of the office part of this scene) that Patrick is wearing Paul Alan's cloths from earlier while sitting on the office sofa twirling the blond models (from the previous scene) hair. This scene seems just a little creepier to me now after realizing that he's in the dead Paul Alan's cloths.
the book is much different than this... in the book they actually go to Dorsia and Bateman lies about him and Jean being a different couple... Dorsia finds out and bateman is embrassaded in front of Jean... one of the few lighter sides of the book
I think Dorsia is a representative of the universal fact that we can't have everything we want, no matter how much money or power you have, a fact that Patrick cannot accept. Pat goes to many restaurants and none of them are Dorsia, the only one he wants to go to. Hell, the main reason he kills Paul Allen is because he has reservations there.
There are so many things that make this clip hilarious. And Christian Bale is a great actor. He was outshone by Heath Ledger's Joker in 'The Dark Knight', but Bale was the star of the show here :)
@XxVictoriaNomadxX- Right before this scene, Patrick goes home with a model he met at a club, so I think the hair implies that he killed her. Also, during the scene where Patrick has jean in his apartment, you can see the model's severed head in his freezer.
Man he is such a fucking psycho in this scene. Perfect.

I always thought that Patrick and Jean would be a great couple. In the books he sees Jean different than all the girls and does deeply care for her.
JReed1985 3 months ago
@JReed1985 I think he does try to care for her until she says Dorsia, but he's enraged by this.
justsomeguyy 3 months ago
@justsomeguyy yeah there are things that make him tick because he's insecure and the jealous type of guy.
Apparently Bret Easton Ellis the author wrote about Patrick marrying Jean and having a kid with her.

@fyfytj In the book he walks around his house with the models head perched upon his erection. Not really a good way to try to fit in IMO.
