This whole movie is amazing, but the restaurant scene cracks me up quite a bit. His mother is wearing a shoe as a hat, while the snarky waiter insists the customer utters the number of the order (in keeping with bureaucratic nature of the movie). When the food arrives, it's nothing more than goo with a picture of how it should appear affixed to it. Gilliam packs so much comedy into such a short scene it blows the mind.
2:33 "Records is a dead-end department, the security level worth a damn, it's impossible to get noticed" ... "I know - wonderful, marvelous, perfect."
Anyone know how many different releases of Brazil there are?
This one is different from the 2 I've seen since 1985, just minor stuff so far, but I was surprised that Sam's reaction to his mother's "template" was cut. In the other versions he looks at her and says "my God, it really works"
@georgiahoosier There's the 90 minute "love conquers all" version, which is a completely different film; different ending, scenes, etc. Then there's the 142 minute cut which is, to my knowledge, the most common version now; and widely held as the best version.
@Stepper11 Oblacka is a pacficist. He wants to make love with terrorists (allowing terrorists from Gitmo with civilian trials in the United States) and allow illegal immigrants (who pays no taxes and get everything for free...). Bush was a stupid redneck from Texas that thinks bombs solves everything.
@longhairfan Since when did the US abandon the principle of a fair and open trial, what happened to the priniciple of being presumed innocent until proven guilty. I don't like Obama he is a lying shill, but I'm afraid the whole Gitmo thing is a terrible slight on the USA, Concentration camps in foreign countries.. even if the people are aquitted they can still be held indefinitely, those are not the principles of a democratic free society.
This is a really funny film and an excellent satire on Thatcher's Britain and bureaucracy in general, though I doubt any innocent man was executed purely because of a misprinted file in the real world.

@Aginor27 Yeah, the "Love Conquers All" version was even fought by Terry tooth and nail, the studio was responsible for it.

Thatcher's Britain? I had no idea they were known for rampant bureaucracy?
