@sunflr1986 - While plaguehorn's comment lacked refinement, I don't see how it was racist. Perhaps plaguehorn is Cambodian...but that is beside the point. It is much more likely that plaguehorn is simply guilty of making a dumb comment. If plaguehorn is a racist, then my advise to you is take your preternatural talents and play them out at Lotto or Powerball. People everywhere make dumb comments about other people (same race or not) - doesn't make it racist.
Great video Nick! Khmer carvers have brought stone and wood to life with intricate details since the dawn of their civilization. It was interesting to see that most of the wood carvers are women, as well as the stone finishing carvers. In the west (particularly in medieval times) these professions were restricted to men. Your video implies that women may have played a significant role in decorating Angkor's ancient temples as well.
@DevataOrg YOU PEOPLE NEED TO SUPPORT AMERICAN MADE WOOD PRODUCTS!! THOES POOR PEOPLE ONLY GET PAID LIKE 1.00 PER DAY TO DO HEAVY WORK YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOUR SELF FOR BUYING OR SUP[PORTING COMPANIES LIKE THIS !!

Yea there is a child there, though a laborer, is a bit harsh, that boy is learning a great skill, to which if he has 1/2a brain to go with those skilled hands he could move anywhere in the world and make $, if thats what he wants
Keep in mind that people in that part of the world look younger than they are. We had a guide in Laos I would swear was 16, but he was a college graduate.
It's like just playing on the floor or something lol, the lady is making a master work, probably going to into a very expensive Gallery to be sold, and she's just hammerin away on the floor lol, day dreaming lol
not to mention the added bonus of your work being around possibly thousands of years from now , to be dug up and put back on the wall some where else - a true legacy; footprints you and your culture were here -
If you can't "make" it you can make something equal it's value- 2 statues and you have yourself the down payment on a middle class American house , you don't have to lie for a living, or cheat, or steal, or market lol.
There are talents that come with that those skills, usually anything to do with creative thinking- culinary arts, picture these guys building cakes - Interior design, simple geometric patterns must be a breaze , Architectural Design - etc etc
anything in that Gallery they can make at a whim, each one made for any great collection for any time, good food, and the ability to create anything in your imagination at a Master skill level ? everyone should wish to be so lucky , you want for nothing except materials, and they have plenty in that location
Perfect arts and craft, Khmer art sculpture has beautiful and charming of artwork.
